Accidentally Married

Branch One Hundred and Forty Six

They shook hands on their new deal. “I thought you were going to draft a contract?” Jessica asked.

“What?”

“You know like the one you did when we first met,” she said as her voice trailed off.

“I should have but I want payment for the investment in another way”

“What other way” she said dusting her hands together and turning to him.

“Well, that you would be the one to cook my breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a very long time”

“Are you asking me to still cook for you even after the divorce?” she asked shocked. “Well I guess that is fair, you are paying to upgrade my skill and you want me to cook for you for a while then I ask that it is fair enough, Deal,” she said ranting away.

“That is….”

“Well, I guess I could always get the meals delivered to you. The meal would not take up much of my day” she continued cutting him off.

“Jessica,” he said hovering over her hand before placing them gently on her.”That is not what I meant”

“What did you mean? She asked gulping hard.

“I am not sure of myself these days. I can’t understand my emotions. Well, I guess I have not been able to understand them ever before” he said.

Jessica was lost. What was he driving at? They just began to speak about her repaying him for his money but he was talking about feelings? She looked around in case she had been transported to another dimension. She did not believe in such existence but it might make a bit more sense considering the words she was hearing.

“These days I long to see you and whenever I don’t I get angry at myself. I don’t know what is wrong but everyone around says it’s love. What I meant when I said that you should cook for me for a long time was that we should go beyond the contract and see how far we can go”

She gulped as she stared at him. She wanted to pinch herself to ensure she was not in some sort of drunken dream where she was in deceit. She wanted to make sure her mind was properly functioning and that she was not misinterpreting what ever it was he was saying.

“I don’t know what these emotions are, but why don’t we go with it and see where it eventually leads?”

“What?”

Her sweaty palm made her try to remove her hand from his grip but he tightened it and started her straight in the face. “You don’t like it?” he asked. His voice was low and she found that situation dangerous to her.

“I don’t know what to say” she started when he inched closer to her. The smell of his cologne engulfed her nose.

“Are you confessing and saying we should break off the contract?” she asked.

He blinked multiple times. He did not know why he was saying either. What did he want? He did not know but he knew that he wanted to be with her, to be able to see her like this, to hold her hand too.

“I don’t know if what I feel is love yet but I know that I do not want to let you out of my sight even if it is for a moment. Lately, I don’t know what has been going on with me. I hate it when you speak and laugh in front of other men” A smile crossed Jessica’s face as she heard that.Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

That line was something that one would hear in a movie. “It drives me crazy. Very crazy”

“I don’t know if I understand your proposition very clearly yet” she murmured. “Are we trying to become a couple? Is that what you want?”

“We should try to become a couple”

“Is that what you want?”

“Yes that is what I want,” he said and she bent her head. How would she explain her extremely red cheeks to him? “So what do you say?”

“We can try but…” she said as she trailed off.

“But?” he asked when he saw her reluctance to speak.

“I don’t know it feels weird to say we are trying to be a couple now. What are we going to do? Go on dates?” she asked

“We are going to do everything a couple does”

“Everything?” she asked feeling her stomach churn as hot blood rushed through all over her body.

“Yes everything” he inches closer to her and hovered over her mouth.

“Including things like this?” she asked angling her head up to see him.

“Of course, things like this are a necessity” he murmured. She could not believe it. She was going to try and be a real wife to Xavier? “You are yet to answer me”

“Was this your proposal?” she asked trying to suppress the growing laughter in her throat. “I thought the billionaire CEO would have a grand proposal in place”

“Then I will prepare a grand proposal just for you”

“What?” she asked in small laughs that wanted to erupt into a full-fledged one. “If you propose to your wife after the wedding won’t others say you are nuts?”

“Who cares what others say? As long as my wife is pleased with me”

“So a grand proposal it is”

“Yes,” he said as he moved in for a kiss.

“Mr. Delgado..”

Jessica pushed Xavier away and bent her head in shame. His secretary had walked in on them. She wished for the ground to open up and swallow her whole. She waited for the girl to retreat.

“I am sorry sir, I forgot that your wife was here,” she said going back and closing the door behind her.
