Addicted To The Genius Lady With A Thousand Faces

Chapter 716

Chapter 716:

Burnet continued to smile and explained earnestly to her, “It was an exceptionally fierce stray dog that attacked me while I was drunk.”

“Oh!” Arabella nodded in understanding. “Burnet, you should cut back on drinking. Alcohol only leads to problems, as your experience last night shows. When you’re drunk, even stray dogs might take advantage of you.”

“Arabella, you’re right, I’ll be more cautious going forward,” Burnet replied with a smile.

At this point, Connor asked, “What brings you here?”

Burnet cast a significant look at Marissa before he casually replied, “I’m here for a meal and to coincidentally run into Black Snake.”

However, it wasn’t purely coincidental. Burnet had been lurking in a corner outside the Peridot Consortium’s building, following them all the way here.

Upon hearing Burnet’s comment, Connor paused and instinctively looked at Marissa. Noticing her look of deep embarrassment and guilt, Connor pieced it together.

Last night, Marissa had hurriedly left after receiving a call from White Mallow. It turned out that it was White Mallow who had beaten Burnet up.noveldrama

Connor found himself at a loss for words.

Marissa turned her face away, her cheeks burning with a flush of embarrassment. She was avoiding eye contact with Burnet.

Her confusion was palpable. She followed how Burnet connected the muscle relaxant to Black Snake, but the leap from that to identifying her as Black Snake was baffling.

Though her mind churned with questions, Marissa knew this wasn’t the moment to voice them. Silence was her shield.

Arabella, confused by the mention of Black Snake, scolded Burnet with a mix of concern and irritation.

“You’re being ridiculous. You just got bitten by a stray dog last night, and now you’re chasing after a black snake? Aren’t you worried you might get bitten by it too?”

Burnet chuckled and tried to amuse Arabella. “Arabella, relax, Connor’s got my back. If Black Snake tries anything, she’ll have to deal with him first.”

Connor, with a faint smile, quickly shifted the conversation. “Grandma, let’s go inside and have lunch.”

Marissa, feeling the awkwardness stretch, gently took Arabella’s arm. “Grandma, let me help you to the table.”

As the women moved away, Burnet turned to Connor, his voice laced with mockery. “So, did you dress up like this to win over your wife?”

“Ahem!” Connor cleared his throat, shifting uncomfortably before retorting, “What’s wrong with trying to make my wife happy? It’s a lot better than getting bitten by a stray dog, like you did.”

“Ahem!” Burnet, equally unsettled, coughed and grumbled, “If your wife hadn’t provided that muscle relaxant, I wouldn’t be in this sorry state.”
