TWINS' POV

I'm not going to lie. What Ella said to us was really hurtful. She said that we were making her sick with our pursuit of her. Wendy was sitting at the table looking just as shocked as we were at Ella's sudden outburst.noveldrama

Where the hell did that come from? She was always so quiet. We didn't know what the hell had gotten into her. But as she was leaving we got a glimpse of a couple bruises on her arm when her sleeve rolled up.

We were sure that Ella was our mate. We knew it since the day that we met her. We never thought that she'd be human though. She's meant to be a wolf. Not just any wolf, but a white wolf. We always knew that she was meant to be a wolf. The prophecy said so. She was the one that was going to break the curse.

Was this some sort of test by the Moon Goddess? I can't imagine that she would do that to us. Maybe this was also the work of witches. This was another way for them to torture us. It wasn't enough for the full moon to almost kill us each month. They had to fuck around with us actually finding our mate as well.

Maybe that was the problem. We were so desperate to break this damn curse that was put on us that we weren't actually paying attention to our mate or what she wanted. We came on too quickly and too suddenly because we knew that she was the one. She was going to free us, but we didn't stop to consider her feelings. Especially since she's not a wolf. If this is what the witches wanted, we weren't going to give it to them. She doesn't know about shifter wolves. She doesn't know about our world. Ella is everything to us, and all we've managed to do is push her away.

"I think I've gotten to know Ella pretty good in the last couple of days." Wendy said, snapping us out of our thoughts.

We sat back down to talk to Wendy because she might have some sort of insight into all of this. She might have caught something that we've missed.

"What do you think we're missing?" Nathan asked.

"Have you seen where she lives?" Wendy asked.

"No. We've stayed away from her house. We thought that we'd be too tempted to go inside." Tristan said.

"Good. Because it's a dump. And I think her stepfather is a drunk. He doesn't work. And she calls her mother by her first name. From what I can tell, she doesn't like talking about them which means she's not close with them." Wendy explained. So we looked at each other, trying to figure out what Wendy was trying to say. "Are you saying that she is getting beaten at home?" Tristan asked.

"I can't say that for sure. But when I dropped her at home, she didn't want me to drive her to the house. She wanted me to stop at the end of the long driveway. So I wouldn't see the house. I picked her up the this morning for school and she was waiting at the end of the driveway. Not at the house." Wendy said.

We looked at each other again and we knew that there was definitely something going on at home. If those bastards were hurting her, they were going to end up regretting it for the rest of their lives. We'd make sure of it.

"I don't think she got all of those bruises at home either." Wendy said.

"What do you mean?" Nathan asked, looking confused. Where else could she have gotten them from?

"I think Leia might have had something to do with one of them. At least one of them. Listen, I don't think she's ever had close friends before. I get the impression that she believes she doesn't deserve friends. Probably something her parents have told her repeatedly. But I can tell you this, she's definitely never had a boyfriend." Wendy said.

"She told you that?" Nathan asked.

"She didn't have to. I've seen the way she is around you two. You're the most loved guys at school and you are both interested in her. She also thinks that it's weird you are both pursuing her without getting jealous. That you two are willing to share her." Wendy said. That made a lot of sense. If she grew up around humans then this would seem weird to her. She wouldn't know that identical twin wolves would have the same mate.

"She's our mate." Nathan said.

"She doesn't know that." Wendy said.

"So, you're saying that she doesn't have much self-esteem?" Tristan asked. But that was already pretty obvious.

"Guys, she doesn't have any self esteem. She doesn't even know what it is. She thinks that she's always in trouble for asking a simple question or for doing one little thing that she's been told she can't do. Like making friends at school." Wendy said.

"She's not allowed to make friends at school?" Nathan asked skeptically. It was a weird request for any parent to make of their child. But if she's being abused, it's very possible.

"She never specifically said that. But it wouldn't surprise me. When I started getting close to her, she acted like she was doing something wrong." Wendy said.

Our poor mate. How could she live her life like that? And fucking Leia. She's going to cop it big time next time we see that bitch.

We have to try and make this up to her. We have to try and figure out what's going on at home. We need to see for ourselves that she's safe.

We left the diner and started following Ella home. We stuck to the woods, but we could see her walking along the road heading towards her house.

Every so often she would wipe the tears away from her eyes.

She looked so miserable but she was also trying to hide it at the same time. She wasn't making a big scene of being upset. Obviously not wanting to draw attention to herself.

All we wanted to do was hug her. Even after she screamed at us to leave her alone. We had to protect her. We wanted to hug her and tell her that she was safe. That she would be fine. That everything was going to be fine and we weren't going to let anyone hurt her anymore.

When she got home we stayed in the woods, but we were close to the house.

Almost instantly we heard yelling coming from inside. At first, it was a strange woman. It must be her mother. But then we heard Ella. She was yelling. She was screaming at her mother.

She had a lot of rage towards that woman. But then what shocked us the most was when we heard her growl. She was human. She wasn't meant to growl.

We looked at each other and couldn't help but smile. We knew that she had a wolf in there but she was raised as a human so she wasn't a shifter wolf. She was a human.

She's been around wolves for long enough, it must finally be starting to have an affect on her. The wolf is coming out. It's only a matter of time. It has to be.

We both got excited about that. But then we heard a man's voice inside and neither of us liked what we heard.

It wasn't long before her mother left the house and the man walked upstairs and started trying to get into Ella's room.

We both thought it was funny when she threatened to shoot him. That's not exactly what we'd threaten, but it did the job. He left her alone.

There was a bit of fire in that girl afterall. It was great to see. At least she wasn't just taking it from her parents when they were the ones that were obviously being ridiculous and picking on her for no reason. Her mother just verbally abused her for no reason.

We were standing outside her bedroom window and we could see her pacing for a while and then she got changed, but we tried not to watch that. Even though that was the hardest of all.

And we heard when she went to bed. When her breathing started to even out.

We made a decision right then and there that we had to find out who was hurting her. We didn't care what we had to do.

We knew that she was our mate. No matter what she said to us today. She may not want to see us, but she's not getting rid of us that easily.

We are going to find out who's hurting her and we're going to make sure that it stops. Right now. That was obviously her parents and definitely Leia. She was going to have to answer for what she was doing. We didn't know Leia was having any sort of interaction with Ella. But she's obviously seen us with her.

She thinks she has a right to Tristan just because she's an easy lay whenever he can't find anyone else. But he was going to make sure that she knew her place. But Ella had to tell us first.
