Chapter 1869
"Congratulations on having twins, Wyatt. The two babies are so lovely. I'm sure they'll grow up to surpass you."
"Thank you!"
"Let's have a drink! To a better future for us all."
"Cheers!"
The four men chatted casually and clinked their glasses together. Then, they downed a shot. When they set their glasses down, something occurred to them. Frederick asked, "Where's Carson? Why haven't I seen him?"
"Heh..."
With a faint chuckle, Willy shook his head and said, "He said that we abandoned him and that we wouldn't wait for him. He went to join Mr. Nick and the others because he apparently doesn't have any common interests to discuss with us."
"Is he getting all dramatic again?" Wyatt teased.
Trevor also nodded and said, "Yeah. Maybe his wallet is just in pain from having to buy so many wedding gifts."
"Haha!"noveldrama
Before they could finish laughing, a tall figure ran back over to them with a glass of wine in his hand. "Hey! What are you guys laughing about?"
They turned and saw Carson standing next to Wyatt. He approached them with a huge grin.
"Wyatt, Waverly gave birth to two sons, not to mention that Sky Success Group signed a deal worth billions. You're so lucky both in love and in your career. Are you trying to make me die of envy? Hehe! Waverly must have had it hard being pregnant for the last ten months. I deserve some credit for being there, right?"
Carson glanced around with his bright eyes and elbowed Trevor. He shot him a look and said, "Isn't that right, Trevor?"
His words did make sense.
Frederick and Willy proceeded to look at each other and laugh softly. "Haha..."
Trevor side-eyed Carson and asked, "What other praise do you have to say about Wyatt? Go ahead!"
Among them, Carson was the youngest and most active one. His career as a doctor caused him to have a more peaceful temperament than the others. When it came to dealing with people and making a lot of connections, Carson would be the most successful one. They all relied on his connections. After all, sickness was a normal thing in life, which was something that the heavens were fair about. Nobody, from high officials to ordinary people in different lines of work, could avoid suffering. Therefore, everyone would give Carson respect and be willing to make friends with him. He was indispensable in many aspects and was an essential part of their friend group. Carson was an open-minded man. Even though he seemed fussy on the surface, he was actually very affectionate and wise.
"Hehe."
The trap had been set, and Carson took the bait. He turned around and immediately continued speaking.
"Wyatt, I heard that you donated a set of advanced mobile devices to the police. It works very well, even at a place like the foot of a mountain where there isn't much signal. It doesn't require a base station, and it has a high-end facial recognition system. It's a new product! You know, a lot of the equipment in the hospital is affected by signal interference, so they are all equipped with a type of shield. The signal is terrible whenever there's other equipment around, even in places like the wards..."
Previously, all Carson knew was that Wyatt had donated some equipment. He thought that it would be a bunch of old, discarded products. He didn't expect it to be so advanced!
Wyatt gave him a sidelong glance and said nothing. Carson sure knew how to think outside of the box.
Noticing his reluctant gaze, Carson rubbed Wyatt's arm once again and said, "It's such a joyous occasion, Wyatt. You should work hard to make us happy, right?"
Frederick beamed. "Come on, give him a set of equipment too. Don't leave him hanging!"
Before Wyatt could say anything, Carson's eyes were glittering with excitement. "Thank you, Frederick!"
Generally speaking, everything Frederick said would end up coming true. Not to mention, it was clear from the moment he spoke that he would be paying for part of it as well.
Wyatt rolled his eyes at him. "You really know how to take advantage of the situation! I'll get someone to help you install the equipment. However, as usual, it'll be professionals from my company doing the work. You're not allowed to disassemble it without permission."
"Got it! It's not like just anyone can come and go from my hospital at will, anyway. There's no way I would let someone else conduct research on your secrets. Next time, you should think of me when you've got your hands on something good, Wyatt. If not for the fact that the others mentioned it earlier, I wouldn't have known that the equipment was so effective..."
Did Carson think that the equipment was something cheap that could be handed off to anyone?
Wyatt was speechless as he stared at him. "You never showed interest. Why are you blaming me for not telling you? Didn't you say that you were going to look for Mr. Nick instead of hanging out with us?"
"What? Who said that? I'll tear his mouth off! Hehe. I only went to say hello to Mr. Nick because I haven't seen him in a long time. I had no idea that he was so popular with women. I couldn't get a word in at all."
With a bittersweet smile on his face, Carson placed one hand on Wyatt's shoulder and pointed to himself again.
"Wyatt, don't you think women have such bad taste nowadays? How could they not notice such a lovely, amicable, and handsome man like me? They only go after cold, serious men. Do you think that I should give each of them some eyedrops?"
Willy chuckled and teased him. "Are they supposed to just let you have your way instead of hiding from you?"
Trevor nodded in agreement. He joked, "Maybe if you stopped flirting with the nurses, women would stop avoiding you, too."
No woman would like a playboy.
Carson raised his eyebrows and straightened his body. "Are you making fun of me, Trevor? Your sister is one of them, you know. She doesn't like me, and you're out here bullying me, too. My life is so hard!"
Carson wailed. Trevor couldn't help but glance at Frederick, meeting his gaze, and then looked elsewhere. "You mean Caroline?"
"Yeah! I saw her following Mr. Nick around. Hey, Trevor, is she interested in Mr. Nick?"
When their eyes met, the atmosphere suddenly became a little cold. Frederick said, "I don't think so! Caroline is still young. Maybe she just admires Nicholas because he saved her a few times."
Nicholas was mature and introverted. He didn't seem like the type to like a well- behaved little girl such as Caroline. Subconsciously, Frederick didn't want the two of them to be together. He was afraid that it would put Nicholas in a difficult position, and more importantly, he was more afraid of Caroline getting hurt.
Trevor chimed in. "Caroline's been making comics lately, and she's an imaginative girl. Maybe she's gotten tired of writing about typical rich playboys, so she's gone to find other sources of inspiration."
His sister had been pampered since young and had always been an obedient girl. In Trevor's mind, she was clean, pure, and untouched. He didn't think that she would like someone like Nicholas, whose career was in a gray area. He appreciated Nicholas, but he was still Alicia's older brother. Strictly speaking, he was practically equivalent to being Trevor's brother-in-law...
The thought of it made him feel very strange.
In addition, he was aware of his parents' affection and expectations for Caroline. They wanted her to find a decent man and live a stable life. He just felt that Nicholas did not fit his parents' ideal. It was obvious considering their standards when choosing a partner for Trevor himself. A young man from a well-matched family might be more suitable for everyone. Caroline would probably like someone like that more, too.
"That's right. Caroline is the best at drawing and taking opportunities! Once, I asked her to draw something for me. She tried to refuse, but eventually couldn't. After three all she gave us was an illustration titled "The Four Great Masters of Casterwich City". The title of the illustration was "The Not Quite Four Young Masters of Casterwich City" because she drew five of us. How dismissive! She didn't even put proper thought into the title! By the way, did you see, Frederick? She turned you and Alicia's story into a comic. I heard that it's a bestseller and that it's really popular in South America. Apparently, there are a lot of lucky draws to be held as well."
Carson smacked his forehead. He contemplated for a while before continuing.
"What was it called... Oh, right. 'Ripe
Pears and Blooming Flowers'. Apparently, it was inspired by Alicia's name. The story is about how she came into your life and brought you happiness, and it's got a happy ending. It's so beautiful! Of course, there's another more old-fashioned one. It has tropes that are more popular nowadays. It's called 'The CEO Madly in Love With His Wife' or something. In short, it's very popular! I have to say, though, Caroline's drawing skills and style are both amazing. When I saw the
advertisement, I could tell that it was
Frederick in the drawing."
As soon as he finished speaking, he once again pointed at the others next to
Frederick one by one.
"You, you, and you! I'm guessing it'll be your guys' turn next. You know, Caroline is really smart. She never runs out of content! I have something to say about young girls nowadays, too. All these books are basically about the same story, but so many people like them. They're so crazy about the stories that they act the same as when they're fangirling."
Trevor laughed and felt honored. "Then hurry up and work hard! Don't let my sister's efforts go to waste."
"Trevor! You shouldn't bring up my flaws like that. You're rubbing salt into my
wound!" Carlos protested.
"Haha!"
All of them chatted and laughed together without holding back. They toasted to each other and no one disturbed that precious moment. The atmosphere seemed to have returned to how it was when they were single. Everything was clear and relaxed, and there were no barriers between them.
In a secluded corner, Nicholas received a call after shooing away the women who
had come over to strike up a conversation with him.
"Yes, I know. We can talk more when I get back."
He put down his phone and shook his head. As soon as he raised his hand, he
found that his glass was already empty. He turned back and was about to get a
new drink, but when he looked up, a pair of big intelligent eyes abruptly met his
own.
Nicholas stared at the woman who was holding onto half of the pillar.
She stuck her head out and looked embarrassed. Lowering her head, she blushed and pursed her lips. She
moved out and leaned against the pillars, twisting her dainty hands around from time to time? She was
wearing a nude-pink long dress, with dreamlike and pure bows on her shoulders. It complemented her magenta hair band. When combined
with her tender face that still had some baby fat on it, she looked even
more youthful. It was as if she was a gorgeous little doll. She was adorable, and one couldn't help but
smile when they saw her.
After putting away his phone, Nicholas looked at her. The corners of his mouth
raised uncontrollably. "What is it?"
She had been following him for some time, hadn't she?
It wasn't the first time he had caught sight of a fleeting shade of pink.
What do you think?
