Chapter 17 Provocative Tactic
Surprisingly, the woman had gotten pregnant. Nicolas had always wanted to have a son. After confirming she was pregnant with his seed, he had taken her in. The woman had gained enough benefits for her family in the name of Nicolas. But when Georgina was born and found to be a girl, Nicolas had left on the spot and hadn't been to the Baker family's house again.
Georgina had practically grown up with her mother. Heidi eventually gave up and accepted the fact that she couldn't have children before she brought all of Nicolas's love children to the Sterling family's house. At that time, Georgina was an unlearned teenager, and her bad character was just too obvious.
Georgina inherited her mother's sharp tongue and could scold people so fiercely that even someone as experienced as Jacquelyn was left speechless and momentarily forgot to shoot back.
Unfortunately for Georgina, Burton happened to return from his walk. He overheard his granddaughter's fierce scolding and saw his new wife silently standing there with red eyes. His hands shook, and in a fit of pique, he smashed a vase. That was right. Smashing things was a family thing.
Georgina saw his angry face, but it was too late for her to switch back to her innocent mode. Her wry face only annoyed Burton even more.
From the servants, he learned that his grandson was hurt. Irritated, he used the same techniques he had used to teach his son a lesson.
In short, it was a severe punishment.
There hadn't been a tradition of hitting girls in the Sterling family, and the servants rushed to find Nicolas. Hillary was retelling Nicolas and his wife what had happened that morning. Before she could mention that Jason seemed to have an unusual relationship with Rejoyla, the servant interrupted, and they hurried over. Nicolas wasn't worried about Georgina, but about Burton's advanced age and health.
Jacquelyn tried to soothe Burton pretentiously, and Georgina went out to hide when she saw Rejoyla.
"Why are you running? Do you know what to say later?" Jacquelyn asked, afraid that the blunt girl would say anything improper and ruin the great opportunity to thrash Georgina.
"Can I stay out of it?"
Rejoyla pouted, unwilling to meet with the Sterling family, especially Burton. In fact, she had no problem with Jacquelyn remarrying. It wasn't the first time, anyway. But facing Burton's wrinkled face, old enough to be her grandfather, and the arrogance running in their genes, she couldn't help but feel inferior. It was not about the difference in their family background; but she had always admired Jason. When she was facing his family, she involuntarily had the same feeling about them. "Cut the crap. If you don't make it clear today, they will continue to bully you. I didn't marry into the Sterling family to see them give you hard times. Show them the ruthlessness you showed me. What, you can only be ruthless to me, but you're weak toward outsiders?"
Twice a day, Rejoyla was criticized for being cross in the nest. She even doubted her character. Even though she knew that Jacquelyn was using a provocative tactic, she still fell for it.
"Whatever!"
Jacquelyn continued to remind her, "You know what to say, right? Don't mention your grievances. Talk about how Jason was hurt."
"Rejoyla, you have the nerve to show up? You're so done."
