Chapter 1729
Chapter 1729:
Moshe’s tone was laden with urgency. His greatest fear was that Errol’s fury would throw everything into chaos, ruining their carefully laid plans. A tarnished reputation could be restored, but if the plan fell apart, all hope would be lost.
Moshe wanted to emphasize this point and ensure that Errol understood the gravity of the situation. But there were far too many eyes and ears in the room. Someone with ill intentions could overhear, and a simple misstep could turn their carefully constructed plan into a tangled mess.
At the sound of Moshe’s words, Errol gradually regained his composure. Weighing the consequences, he quietly returned to his seat, no longer making any effort to provoke Harlee or Lexus. He could endure anything for the sake of the grand plan.
The people around them stared in wide-eyed disbelief. Was Errol really going to let this slide? Of all people, he was backing down? The whole situation was becoming increasingly absurd.
Nola was just as shocked. She had initially planned to use Errol to embarrass Harlee, but she never expected that Errol would end up being humiliated instead. What a useless thing!
Nola clenched her fist tightly, her nails digging into her palm, as her gaze hardened toward Errol. There was no mistaking the simmering displeasure in her eyes. If not for the constraints of her current identity, she would never have allowed Harlee to bask in triumph so easily.
Just when everyone thought the evening’s drama had concluded, Ableson, who had been quietly eating, suddenly looked up. His eyes, filled with naive confusion, fixed on Errol as he slowly stood. In a startling move, he grabbed the bowl of soup from the table and marched toward Errol. With a swift motion, he flung the soup, drenching Errol from head to toe.
Errol froze, stunned and dripping, as the soup soaked into his clothes. He had never expected such a bold action from a child. His face contorted with rage as he rose, hand raised to strike. But before he could react further, his wrist was seized in a firm grip. The sudden pain made him look up—it was Harlee holding him back.
“Errol, surely you wouldn’t strike a child, would you?” Harlee taunted, her lips twisted into a derisive smile as she tightened her grip.
“Let… Agh… Let go!” Errol gasped, pain lacing his voice.
Moshe moved to intervene, but Robbie and others quickly stepped in, restraining him. Outnumbered, Moshe was forced to stand down.
“What do you want?” Errol shouted at Harlee and then turned his anger toward Lexus.
“Professor Moreno, is this how you treat your guests? Who would dare come to your events after this?”
Lexus remained unresponsive, his attention on Ableson. Witnessing Ableson’s rare display of emotion stirred something in him, a mix of shock and intrigue.
Edward and Matthew, meanwhile, could hardly conceal their amusement. They were pleased to see Ableson showing any emotion, inappropriate though it may have been. As for Errol, they had little interest in his plight.
The room fell silent. Though Lexus often boasted of Ableson’s genius in mathematics, many whispered about the boy’s supposed autism and ridiculed him. No one had anticipated such a bold act from Ableson, labeled autistic, nor did they expect Harlee’s direct intervention.noveldrama
With a serene expression, Ableson declared, “Harlee, I will protect you and my grandpa.”
Ableson wasn’t autistic. He simply found the world too malicious and preferred silence.
Harlee affectionately ruffled his hair.
“Good boy, but you should wait until you’re older to protect me. Go to your grandfather now.”
Ableson nodded obediently and returned to Lexus’ side.
Harlee had no intention of confronting Errol tonight, so as he reached his limit, she released his wrist and signaled for Robbie and the others to let go of Moshe as well. Moshe quickly began cleaning Errol’s suit with a napkin.
