Connor was speaking in Old English.

But then, Lucas switched to Japanese-clearly making sure Chloe could follow every word.

In Japanese, Lucas said, "I have no idea what you're talking about. Aaron is mine and Rose's biological son. You're the one making things up."

Connor couldn't help but laugh, half in disbelief. He'd underestimated just how shameless Lucas could be. Lying so easily, right in front of them.

But to Connor, it just looked like Lucas was grabbing at straws. The kind of lie that could fall apart at any second.

And yet, Lucas pressed on, "Fine. Let's get a paternity test."

Connor shot him a cold look. "If you're so eager, you must have already bribed someone at the lab."

Lucas just smirked, throwing it back at him. "If you're the one refusing, then you're the liar."

Connor's gut told him something was off. Was Lucas really setting himself up to fail, or was there a bigger game here? Connor couldn't figure out what Lucas was trying to pull for once.

Maybe Lucas was just trying to look so sure of himself that Chloe would start doubting everything. Or maybe he already had a backup plan. Was he getting ready to run again?

Chloe broke the tension. "I have a friend at a hospital. Lucas doesn't know him, and neither does Grayson. Let's go get the test done right now."

Aaron was close by, waiting at a neighbor's ice cream shop-Grayson had left him there. Grayson went to fetch him, and the four of them headed off to the hospital together.

The ride was tense. Each adult was lost in their own thoughts. Only Aaron seemed unfazed, just picking up on the heavy mood swirling around him.

As they got close to the hospital, Connor's phone rang. It was Teddy.

Teddy had been watching Lucas and knew what he was up to: Lucas had bought three new fake identities on the black market. He'd already il booked tickets-planning to Sneak off to Melbourne in three days.

So that was his escape plan.

In Japan, DNA test results usually took at least three days. Since Chloe's friend would be handling it, Connor couldn't get involved, or Lucas would accuse him of cheating.

But that was okay. Lucas had managed to disappear once before-Connor wasn't about to let it happen again.noveldrama

After the samples were taken, Chloe's friend Akiko told them, "The results will be ready in three days. We'll call you."

When they left the hospital, Chloe turned to Connor and Grayson. "I'll be staying at the flower shop for the next few days. I don't want to see either of you."

She needed time-space to let everything sink in. To work out the truth for herself. Right now, she didn't trust anyone.

Connor and Grayson actually respected her wishes, keeping their distance for three days.

Grayson, meanwhile, kept a close watch on the black market for updates on their fake documents.

Finally, on the night the DNA results

were due, a package arrived for Grayson. Jnside were brand new IDS for himself, Chloe, and Summer. He'd already sorted out customs, visas everything. And he'd paid a small fortune to charter a private jet, with a midnight flight plan. It was all set up so they could slip out without Connor noticing.

All they had to do was get to the airport on time, and in two days, they'd be gone

for good. This time, Connor wouldn't be able to track them down.

Later that afternoon, both Lucas and Connor showed up at the flower shop. It was time to pick up the results from the hospital.
