Chapter 1029
"Connor, do you really think your love is the only kind that matters? What's so wrong with the life I've built with her? We're happy, we're content, our days are warm and full of laughter. She's genuinely happy. What's so bad about that? If you truly care about her, you should stay away. Don't come here just to ruin what we have."
Connor's voice was low, every word deliberate. "Have you thought about what'll happen if she gets her memory back? How much that would destroy her?"
He stepped closer, his words cutting deep. "If Chloe remembers everything, do you honestly believe she'll forgive you? For manipulating her, for scheming behind her back? For stealing her away, hiding her, and trapping her in this fake peace? For forcing her to be separated from her newborn, taking away her right to be a mom?"
Connor stood right beside Lucas, his tone icy. "She and I are married-legally, truly. We've been through so much together, loved each other, survived so many storms. And you? You're just a thief. You saw someone else's happiness and you took it for yourself."
He didn't let up. "Aren't you scared? That one day she'll remember everything? That she'll see exactly what you did, all the dirty secrets, all the lies? That she'll finally see you for what you are-selfish, fake, and completely shameless?"
Lucas stumbled back, his confidence crumbling.
And deep down, he knew everything Connor said was true. Those were the darkest corners of his mind-the ones that kept him up at night. For two years, he'd lived with the fear she'd remember. That she'd never forgive him for any of it.
But Lucas always managed to convince himself it wouldn't happen.
"She's not going to remember," Lucas said, trying to sound sure. "Even if she does, maybe it'll be ten, twenty years from now. By then, most of our lives will be over. She won't care anymore."
Connor stepped back, finally falling silent.
Chloe had her back to both of them the entire time. She was still clutching the DNA test report so tightly, her nails left deep marks in the paper. Her shoulders shook, just barely.noveldrama
Lucas didn't want to argue with Connor anymore; the more they talked, the worse he felt. So he walked straight to Chloe, gently taking her hand. "It's all out in the open now. Let's just go."
Chloe's mind felt like it had been struck by a bomb. Everything hurt.
Lucas, desperate to get out of there, didn't notice how off she was.
This time, Connor didn't try to stop them.
Back at their apartment, Lucas started packing in a rush. When ke finally finished and zipped up the suitcase, he realized something was wrong. Chloe hadn't moved from the couch, sitting there in total silence.
He sat down next to her. "What's wrong?" He thought she was still upset about everything that had happened.
He took her hand, his voice gentle. "Rose, now you see what kind of person Connor really is. He lied to you, told you Aaron wasn't
child. He's a master at pretene
and with all his power, we'd never win against him. We have to leave."
Chloe seemed to finally come back to herself a little. She turned to Lucas, her voice flat. "Leave?"
"We have to go tonight,” Lucas said quickly. "Connor won't just let us walk away. Everything's set-I got us tickets on the midnight flight to Vancouver. We'll get new names, start over somewhere new
Lucas knew that the truth about Summer being Chloe's child was a devastating
blow for Connor, too.
