Chapter 213
As she spoke, Sylvia was already darting to the other side of the bed to grab the documents, picking them up and neatly stacking them back on the bed.
By the time she returned to Rupert, he had already unbuttoned half of his shirt. Sylvia glanced down at his exposed abs, feeling a sudden dryness in her mouth.
She closed her eyes and quickly undid the remaining buttons, wiping her hands hastily.
"You're all set. My lunch break is almost over, so I better get going."
"Sylvia," Rupert called out softly, "Did you come to see me?"
Sylvia clenched her fist, her tone light and breezy. "No, I just came to bring lunch
to Edwin! And, you know, check on you."
With that, she dashed out.
Rupert stared at the empty doorway. "Stubborn," he murmured.
Suddenly, he recalled Bailey's words about him-stubborn as a mule.
It was pretty spot-on.
Rupert touched the cooling pad on his forehead and grinned slightly.
...
After leaving Rupert's room, Sylvia quickly bid farewell to Edwin and exited through the private elevator, like a ghost leaving no trace. She was confident that even if someone asked the receptionist, they'd say they hadn't seen her.noveldrama
It wasn't until she was a safe distance away from the Garcia Group building that Sylvia finally allowed herself to breathe deeply, clutching her chest as a strange pang of pain shot through it.
Finally, she dialed Warren's number.
"Sylvia, what's up, calling me at this hour?"
"Warren, if you manage to sign the contract Bailey has, you'll be able to secure a
key position at the Garcia Group, right?" Sylvia asked.
There was a long pause on the other end before Warren responded.
"Yes. Grandpa sees this deal as crucial, opening up a new market for the Garcia Group."
"I'll give you the contract details. You go sign it."
"Sylvia, how do you know the contract details? Only Rupert would have access to that," Warren said, his voice rising.
"Warren, don't ask. Just listen and take notes."
"Okay."
Warren finally agreed.
Sylvia relayed everything she remembered to Warren.
In her past life, she had been by Rupert's side for eight years, seeing countless contracts in his study. She knew which parts he annotated as
Earlier, when she'd picked up the documents, she'd memorized the key information. Warren had the skill to reframe it into something new, but the core would remain unchanged. If he could close the deal before Rupert, he could secure his place within the Garcia Group's power circle, possibly altering the fate she and her mother had faced.
"Thank you, Sylvia. But I still hope you understand my feelings for you..."
Sylvia cut him off immediately, "Warren, there's no chance for us. Don't dwell on it. You'll find someone more suited for you."
Warren chuckled ruefully. "Sylvia,
you really don't give me a shot. I've imagined many futures. If the Garcia family can't accept us, we could go abroad together. There's always somewhere we could spendour lives in peace."
Those were the words Warren had said in the past life.
Sylvia was moved but still didn't accept.
"I'm sorry, Warren."
"Sylvia... if I ever did something wrong, would you hate me?"
"You've helped me so much. Why would I hate you?" Sylvia replied, puzzled. In
her previous life, Warren had never said those words.
"Good to know," Warren said with a gentle laugh. "I'm getting discharged
tomorrow. Will you come by?"
"It's my day off tomorrow. I'll visit you," Sylvia promised.
"See you tomorrow."
"Okay."
For some reason, Sylvia felt that Warren's tone was a bit off.
What do you think?
