Game Over No Second Chances

Chapter 393

Rachel asked, "Serena, help me out, will you? I'll make sure to put in a few good words for you with your dad."

Serena was blocked from leaving. Rachel nagged at her until she finally gave in and helped her back to the room.

That night, Howard's furious pounding on the door jolted her awake.

As soon as she opened it, Howard's palm came swinging toward her. She snapped awake and dodged in time. "Dad, what's got you so worked up in the middle of the night?"

"I told you to take good care of Rachel! And what did you do? You yanked her during the day and made her strain her back. Now she is in so much pain she needs to go to the hospital! If anything happens to my son, I'll beat you to death!"

Howard was seething. Outside, Rachel's pitiful cries echoed through the hall, mixed with Sarah's shrill voice yelling for a car.

It was a whole night of chaos.

Serena could barely keep her eyes open by morning.

In the end, the doctor finally spoke up with a casual tone.

"She got pregnant too soon after the last miscarriage. Her body is weak. Tell her

to take it easy."

Rachel leaned into Howard's arms, nodding shyly.

"I won't be running around anymore," she said sweetly.

Sarah pointed straight at Serena.

"You're the one who blocked Mom in the hallway. If not for you, Mom would've made it back to her room earlier and wouldn't have strained her back or upset the baby!"

Serena had been nodding off nearby. When she heard Sarah's remark, she coldly glanced at Sarah.

"If walking a few extra steps is all it takes to lose the baby, maybe she should go ahead and book a hospital suite for the next ten months. I'm sure the cost of that is nothing compared to the Jansen family's precious bloodline."

"That's not a bad idea." Howard turned serious at the mention of 'bloodline'.

Rachel panicked. She couldn't imagine staying in the hospital for 10 months. She'd fall into depression before the baby was even born!

"No need to go that far. I'll just be more careful on my own."

"Oh no, Ms. Lloyd. You can suffer all you want, but I can't take the blame for nothing. The hallway fits two people. Yet somehow, it can't fit me, someone this slim.

"Maybe it's not just that the baby is fragile; you need to check your eyesight as well. It's fine if you're blind, but passing that on to Dad's son would be a problem," Serena said, feigning concern.

The moment Howard heard that, he immediately demanded over 20 extra tests for Rachel.

Rachel was so furious her eyes turned red. Sarah tried to stop Howard, but he wouldn't listen.

Meanwhile, Serene yawned and went back to sleep after seeing that things were under control.

The entire day, Rachel went through endless tests until she was completely drained and furious.noveldrama

On the other hand, Howard was relieved. However, he worried Serena might do something impulsive and jeopardize the baby before her attitude was properly tamed.

He pulled Rachel aside and said, "Serena is not going to change overnight. You're in your first trimester. Don't provoke her. Just find someone to remind her now and then."

But Rachel wasn't satisfied. Back home, she started picking on Serena again.

She kept complaining about her perfume being too strong, or how the things she

left in the house were dusty and made her cough.

Serena was so annoyed she simply shut herself in her room.

Seeing she couldn't get a reaction from Serena, Rachel changed tactics. She waited outside Serena's room with a cushion, planning to fake a fall and get Howard to punish Serene. Perhaps it could finally put Serena in her place for good.

But just as she reached the door, she heard Serena's excited voice from inside.

"Did Amber Group really make it through? thought we'd only qualify for a government grant. I didn't expect we could make it to the finals! If we win the bid on that government project..."

Government grant?

Rachel's eyes widened in shock.

Since when did Amber Group go from losing money to turning a profit? They were

now even getting a government grant!

No way. How did such a valuable company end up in Serena's hands in the first place?

She left in a hurry. As soon as Howard came home, she threw herself into his

arms.

"Howard, if this one is a boy, shouldn't we leave him more family assets?"
