Chapter 18
Ethan
I looked around with a smile spread widely across my face. The party was going very well; it was exactly as planned. My brothers had planned the party without Mia’s knowledge because we wanted to surprise her.
I watched as people danced to the rhythmic beat, and others drank like there was no tomorrow. I chuckled.
My brothers and I had been planning this day for a while now, and we wanted to make it the best college party. I was glad that we were able to make that happen.
My eyes randomly searched the hall for Jasmine and wondered why she was yet to show up.
The thought that she might be with that punk a*s of a boyfriend made my heart ache a little. But I tried controlling my thought being that there was nothing I could do to stop her from seeing him.
I stopped one of the servers and picked up a cup of wine from the tray. I gulped it down, still looking around and taking in the satisfaction of how the party was going.
I could see some people making out in the corner of the room, which took me back to what happened just a few weeks ago.
I chuckled and took a sip of my wine. The tension that built up between us that day was too much to handle; Jasmine was silently driving me and my brothers crazy even without doing anything.
My brothers and I have talked about how much we craved her and would have taken her for ourselves, if not for the fact that she was distracted by Noah.
Noah was the one pushing us away from the one we wanted to be with, and I was sure that as long as he was there, my brothers and I would get no chance to be with Jasmine. He was a challenge to us.
It would have been better if Noah didn’t carry this aura that made him appear like a threat to everyone, even to the woman he claimed to love, Jasmine.
No matter how hard I think about it, I feel like Noah was up to something, that he had a plan and a motive for coming to our school, and Jasmine was just a pawn in his game.
I felt like she wasn’t safe, that she was in danger by being with Noah. But how would I let her know that? She wouldn’t believe anything we say, especially something that had to do with Noah. She would just think that we were jealous.
We already told Mia to speak to her, and her feedback was what we expected: Jasmine trusts Noah so much and we can only hope that he doesn’t hurt her and that we were all wrong about our feelings towards him.
Which is very unlikely, though.
I sighed and shook my head as if to shake away all bothering thoughts and focus on the main event of today. But the thoughts lingered still.
I wondered where Jasmine could be; I was yet to see her. I looked around, hoping to find her anywhere in the room, and my eyes caught her walking into the hall wearing a long dress with a slit slightly below the thigh.
She looked so beautiful, and she stood out among the people in the room. I smiled, a sigh of relief escaping my lips; she was fine at least.
Mia soon got distracted by a group of friends and soon Jasmine was all by herself. She looked around the hall as if searching for someone and just then I saw her reaching for her phone in her bag.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
“It is time to cut the cake!” I turned as I heard the announcement and walked to the stage where Calix, Zane, and Mia were already waiting for me.
I smiled as I got to them and took my position in front of my cake.
At the spelling of our last name, we all cut the cake, followed by the cheers of the people present. It was such a wonderful moment, as it made me feel special and I was sure that it was the same for my siblings.
I cut a part of my cake, and my siblings did the same as we fed ourselves.
By the time we were done and I tried checking up on Jasmine, I discovered she was no longer there.
We then stepped onto the dance floor, dancing and swaying to the music. Others soon joined us there, adding more colors and steps to the dance floor. They all had big smiles on their faces.
Aside from the fact that it was our eighteenth year birthday, it was also a day we would possibly get to meet our mates or mates as the case may be.
Since we are quadruplets, there were likely chances that we would all be mated to one person like our fathers or we could each have our separate mates, being that Mia is a girl among us.
Finally, the party was coming to an end, and we had to give a speech to thank everyone for honoring our invitation and being a part of our celebration.
I joined my siblings on the stage once again, and Mia was the first to speak.
“We want to thank you all for coming to celebrate with us today. It is a very big honor to have you all here. We wouldn’t have been here if not for you guys.”
Calix cleared his throat, “There wouldn’t have been a party if you all decided to stay in the comfort of your rooms and not come out,” he began, “Thank you all for coming to make our special day, you all are special too.”
“They’ve both said it all. We thank you for honoring our invitation and…” Zane stopped.
I was about to ask why he did that when I caught the scent of this sweet and soothing vanilla smell. It was like the scent moved a vein in my body, which pulsed more shots of adrenaline through other veins in my body.
Calix and Zane had caught the same scent, and they were as surprised as I was, wondering where this scent was coming from and from whom it was.
We knew it was a sign; it was to tell us that our mate was near, and we had to find her. We were about to find the mate we had been looking forward to knowing.
We already knew that on this day, our 18th birthday, we would get to know who our mate was and we would get to meet her. Now, it was the time. Our mate was near, and all we had to do was find her and make her ours.
We all exchanged looks and wondered how we were to start searching the large crowd of students most of whom were already going out of the hall.
But one fact was certain and that was the fact that we needed to find her before this scent dies down, and we will be left to find her without a trace.
Zane turned back to the people and smiled, touching the microphone to be sure it was still working, “Thank you all. Let’s keep the party going!” He said, and the music began again with people dancing and singing along with it.
“We have to find her!” Zane said.
I nodded in agreement.
“I can’t wait to see her,” said, Calix excitedly as we searched through the hall before going outside while following the vanilla scent.
When came outside, we were so confused about which way to go, as there were lots of student moving in different directions.
We decided to head for the parking lot first, but it seemed like we were moving away from the scent, so we turned back, looking around to see if we could find anyone with that scent, but there was no one.
We looked everywhere, but it kept seeming like we were going away from the vanilla scent.
At some point, we stood at a spot and thought about the direction to go next. We didn’t want to lose our mate; we had to find her.
“I think we should go check the garden,” Calix suggested.
We nodded and headed for the garden, and he was right. Each step we took felt like a step closer to what we had been looking for, as the scent grew stronger and stronger.
We followed the scent deep into the garden, and my mouth dropped open at who I saw.
I turned to Calix and Zane, and they had the same look on their faces. I didn’t know if it was because that was what he expected or because we never expected it.
It was Jasmine. Jasmine was our mate. So, the bond and the connection we were feeling towards her was because of the bond, and not just a naturally occurring feeling.
Jasmine was right there, but she was not alone. She was with the one who had posed a threat to us for a while now, the one who stood like our challenger, Noah.
Noah was there with her, and they weren’t just sitting; they were making out.
How could he? How dare he? How dare he touch what belongs to us? How dare he touch our mate?
I could feel my b***d rushing to my ears, rage pulsing through my veins as I stared at them. How dare he?
He seemed to notice our presence and pulled Jasmine closer to himself, their lips still locked, and his hands around her waist, which moved up and down on her back.
I could feel my wolf surging inside of me, wanting to fight for its right, for what belongs to me.
My body started to tremble, as I could no longer stand still.
I rushed to them and pulled them apart, pushing Jasmine to one side and pulling Noah up to his feet. “How dare you!” I shouted.
“Who the hell do you think you are!” Calix chimed in, grabbing him by his collar and pulling him closer. “How dare you touch her!”
“What are you talking about!” Noah shouted, “Get your filthy hands off me!” He yelled and threw Calix’s hands off.
“How dare you talk to my brother that way?” I growled.
I sped towards him and punched him in the face.
He took a few steps away from us and wiped the b***d off his lips before speaking toward Zane and punching him too. He knew Zane wasn’t really into the fighting, so he caught him off-guard.
My resentment grew as I rushed to him and grabbed him from the back, flipping him over my head and landing him on the floor.
I grabbed him and pulled him by his collar almost immediately, not giving him any chance to stand so he could catch his breath. I punched him again, harder this time.
“Don’t let him go!” Calix shouted.
I could feel the same amount of anger oozing from my brothers.
I punched him again; his lips ripped and b***d gushed down from his nose. I pushed him towards Calix, who grabbed him and threw a punch at his face again.
Calix pushed him back to me, and I grabbed him by his neck, throwing a punch at his stomach. I was so mad that I was barely thinking of my actions
We could share the title of the Luna Festival king, but we would never share our mate with him. Never!
