Family token
The Antonete branch was caught off-guard by the sudden move of Desmana in the stagnant market. Since the Mondragons have been purged out from the company, Antonete lost a ‘spy’ inside so they did not immediately take steps to answer the other side.
During those times, Daisy did not stop attacking the stock market of the Antonete company pushing the family in the corner. And Jenica knew why Agent Z instructed Daisy to do so.
Agent Z wants to force the Antonetes to contact their higher up, the one whom they were both chasing after. Knowing that Yvette Antonete has an unclear relationship with the one behind the poisonous needles, Agent Z wanted to know who’s the backer of the said woman.
Jenica knew that she had the same objective as Agent Z so with him around, things would end well. Just like what he did to her while she’s fighting with the Mondragons, she just stepped back and watched the good show. But the sudden call of the old Desmana’s Madam disrupted her peaceful days.
The old madam’s face was serious. The corner of Jenica’s lips twitched. She had noticed that Desmana members were all present except for Bryce.
Jenica sighed and raised her eyebrows. “What happened?” she asked.
The old woman snorted. “The family lawyer informed us that Gray Mondragon got the autopsy report. That old man has died of poison and the Mondragon is filing a case against the Desmana.”
Oh. About the old man’s case. Well, Jenica forgot that issue until that moment.
Before she could utter a word, Lynet beat her into it
“Yes, it’s unfortunate for us to encounter such bad luck after someone entered the company to cause trouble.” Lynet looked at Jenica. “Miss Jane, you must be responsible for the old man’s death. You’ve implicated the Desmana because you’ve touched the old man’s body before he died.”
“Yes! You are the suspect,” replied one of the Desmanas.
“Right. It’s her fault for being too nosy. If only she hadn’t approached the old man, Desmana wouldn’t have been blamed by the Mondragons!”
Many of the Desmana present in the living room expressed their agreement with Lynet’s words. The latter secretly smirked at her. Jenica just watched them make a funny play.
“So you want me to turn myself in at the police station?” Jenica asked.
“Yes. You should go to the precinct right now,” said the old woman. “If you want to protect Bryce, turn yourself in and take the blame.”
Jenica raised her hand to hide the grin hanging on her lips. “Oh my! You called me for such a shameful request? Madam, you must be kidding me!”
“What? Are you disobeying the madam? To tell you Miss Jane, you shouldn’t challenge Madam’s authority,” Lynet said. “Now that you’ve done your job, it’s time for Bryce to disregard you. Madam is giving you the chance to prove yourself worthy. Maybe the president will take pity on you and bail you out of the jail.”
Huh. Jenica sneered. Bail for a murder case? What is Lynet taking her for? A grade school student?
“I believe Mr. Desmana is an upright man and won’t abandon his people even if they outlast their usefulness. Am I right, Madam?” Jenica asked and turned to old Desmana.
The old woman’s face was confused.
If she’ll disagree, she will ruin Bryce’s reputation. And if she’ll agree, she will oppose Lynet. Hmmm! This b*tch just won’t shut up!
Madam Desmana gritted her teeth and looked away, not daring to nod nor shake her head. Jenica smiled broadly and turned to Lynet.
“So what I’m saying Miss Lynet, I don’t dare to take the blame. If Gray Mondragon wants to file a case against Desmana, he must have a valid evidence to do so.” She raised an eyebrow and looked at the people around her one by one. “If one of you haven’t touched that old man, it’s not your call to worry. But it’s a different situation if one of you did.”
The corner of Lynet’s lips twitched and folded her arms. The old woman frowned at her words. “How dare you accuse us of murder? It must be you who wants to kill that old man so you can pin the crime to us! This is ridiculous!” The old woman looked at her the burly men nearby. “Don’t be hesitant! Capture and beat her up!”
The small smile on Jenica’s lips disappeared and she looked seriously at the ten men who had been standing nearby. She had already guessed that they were just waiting for an order from the old woman.
“Madam, think it carefully. I am the President’s guest. Is this how you treat your guest?” she asked. Her tone was mocking.
“Don’t listen to her, Madam!” Lynet said angrily. “She wants to escape the punishment. Just think of what will happen to Desmana Group now that the company is in the middle of war against Antonete if the case filed by Mondragon is added to Bryce’s worries? We need to lessen his burden and sacrificing Jane Lau is the best thing to do to stop my Uncle from stabbing us from the back!”
The old woman seemed to believe what Lynet said and she looked haughtily at Jenica. “Beat this woman as a warning. Don’t overdo it. If you accidentally kill her, you’ll have to answer me!”
Jenica blinked and glanced the approaching men. If she’s not wrong, these men were experts in martial arts.
Of course, as an assassin and spy herself, it’s easy for her to knock out a martial artist. But if ten will rush at her at the same time, she’s not sure if she could win the fight. Jenica frowned.
The malicious smile on Lynet’s lips widened. These men were not ordinary guards because they’re members of the elite squad that Desmana hired to protect their family assets. She had instigated the old woman to call the elite squad because ordinary guards are no match for Jane Lau, just like what happened during that dinner when they forced her to sign a contract.
“Mister, don’t hit the woman’s face otherwise I’ll be sorry for her if she couldn’t find another man to seduce,” Lynet mocked before the fight would break.
Some of the Desmanas laughed while Jenica scoffed. This damned woman’s accusing her of using her face to seduce men. And look at those pretentious faces?
When Bree Mondragon was still in her position, they were cautious in front of her. And now that the Mondragons are no longer in the Desmana Group, the true colors of these damned Desmana were revealed at the same time.
Huh. Jenica will surely return this ‘gift’ to them later.
She didn’t have time to answer Lynet because ten men rushed to her at the same time. Jenica squinted her eyes and moved sideways before raising her leg to hit the man’s neck. The first man fell face first on the floor.
The Desmanas were stunned by her strength and even the nine remaining masters couldn’t help but frown.
“What the h*ll was that?” asked one of the Desmanas in a whisper.
“She just knocked that man out!”
“Who is she? Where did Kuya Bryce meet that girl?”
Lynet gritted her teeth. She didn’t believe that Jane Lau could knock out the remaining nine members of the elite squad. But as the fight dragged on, her confidence dropped little by little. Lynet looked at the five men lying on the floor.
No! She wouldn’t let Jane Lau win!
Lynet secretly looked around and when she made sure no one was watching, she secretly took out a poisonous needle. The edge of her lips curled and she sent it flying in the direction of Jane Lau using a small device that she immediately hid in her pocket.
Jenica sensed the danger approaching her back but she was currently punching the brusque man. She gritted her teeth and tried to side-stepped but the man noticed that and thought she’s preparing for a secret move again so he quickly moved his fist to stop her from what she was planning.
Jenica couldn’t help but return to her place earlier. At the same time, the poisonous needle sank into her back. Her body twitched at the sudden intrusion of a strange object. Her muscles went cold.
The brusque man’s eyebrows rose when he noticed that Jenica tensed so he grinned and sent his fist flying straight to her face. Jenica dodged the fist and quickly retreated, giving both of them enough space.
The brusque man’s eyes narrowed at what she did. “What? Are you a coward?” he asked in a playful tone, almost mocking.
Coward? She? Jenica sneered. If someone didn’t sneak attacked her, she would have slapped his face until he couldn’t recognize himself in the mirror.
Jenica turned back and first noticed the smiling Lynet. She could see the gloating in the woman’s eyes and Jenica squinted. She knew that Lynet was the one who did it.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
When the Desmanas noticed that Jenica didn’t want to rush into the fight again, they laughed at each other.
“Look! That damned woman lost!”
“Eh? Why she’s standing there? And what is that man doing? The fight is not over yet! Fight her!”
“I think she got scared when she almost got punched in the face so she retreated and didn’t want to fight anymore. What a coward! Hahaha!”
Jenica felt the numbness spreading on her back from the place where the needle had inserted itself so she had to leave that place. She tried to walk away but Lynet didn’t let her go.
“Miss Jane! Where do you think you’re going? The fight is not yet over!” she asked, teasing her.
Jenica glanced coldly at the cunning woman. “You can’t stop me if I want to walk away.”
“Oh?” Lynet turned to the five men, frowning. “What are you waiting for? Beat that woman!” Lynet yelled, displeased at the men’s lack of initiative.
The remaining five men looked at each other and rushed forward.
Jenica pursed her lips and with a flick of her finger, she was holding the family token that Bryce had lent her before. “Who dares to attack me behind the President’s back?” she asked in a powerful tone.
The five men’s eyes widened when the saw the family token that symbolized absolute authority over all of Desmana’s assets, and quickly stopped rushing in. Together they knelt down and bowed in front of her.
When old woman saw the family token, her face turned pale. She stood up and pointed a finger at Jenica, trembling. “Where did you get that token?!”
