Chapter 404
Two weeks had passed since the last time Tessa saw Stephen. It was only when Marissa stopped by the law firm to discuss her case did she find out what he was up to.
Marissa told her that Stephen was out of the country to handle some business at the company's overseas branches.
Tessa had been up to her elbows in work in the last two weeks, so she didn't have the time or mental capacity to think about anything else. She had already filed the two Jacobson Corporation cases, and they were scheduled to be heard in court next month.
Meanwhile, Matthew and Yanis' divorce case was scheduled to take place next Thursday.
After they were done with work for the day, Tessa, Wynn, Jasmine, and Molly dropped by a steakhouse near the firm to have dinner together. After their meals were served, they chatted with each other while enjoying the delicious food.
The apartment Jasmine was currently renting was near Shelton Law Firm. Since the lease was almost up, she had been busy looking for a new place to stay. Coincidentally, Molly was also looking for a bigger apartment to live in.
She said, "Why don't we rent a place together? I've been wanting to move to a bigger place recently. We can rent a two-bedroom apartment if we move in together."
Jasmine pursed her lips together and mumbled incoherently to herself.
"What's wrong?" Molly asked, shooting a curious glance at Jasmine. "You don't want to rent a place with me?"noveldrama
Jasmine took a sip of her drink before she answered, looking rather
uncomfortable. "It's not like that, Molly. It's not that I don't want to rent a place with you. It's just that I... I..."
"You what?" Molly looked at her, amused. "Cat's got your tongue?"
A bright blush dusted across Jasmine's face when she finally said, "My boyfriend and I are planning to live together."
Molly stared at her in shock, her jaw going slack. The piece of steak that she was about to put into her mouth tumbled back onto the plate. "What did you say? You're moving in with your boyfriend?"
Surprise was also etched all over Tessa's face as she looked at Jasmine. "You got together with Lucas?"
Jasmine's face was as red as a beet as she hummed her reply.
"How long have the two of you been together?"
Jasmine pursed her lips before answering, "It's going to be three months soon."
Molly's brow furrowed upon hearing her answer. She said, "Jasmine, why are you in a rush to move in with him when you've only been together for three months? You should take more time to get to know him better first."
"I agree with Molly," Tessa said sternly. "Jasmine, I know that Lucas is a good man and has a great character, but the two of you only just started dating, yet you already want to move in with him? I'm just worried that you'll regret it."
"That's right," Molly chimed in. "I've lived through something similar, so I speak from personal experience."
An upset expression appeared on Molly's face when she recalled her bad experiences.
"You can ask Tessa how I got to know her. I was studying at a university in Haverford when I got my feelings played by a bastard. We lived together for two years.
"In the beginning, we both agreed to split the rent, utilities, and living expenses. He would transfer 2,000 dollars into my account every month, and I would also contribute 2,000 dollars to pay for our shared expenses."
The more Molly talked about her unhappy experience with her ex-boyfriend, the more her blood boiled.
She slapped her hand on the table and exclaimed, "After we broke up, the damned jerk asked me to return his money to him! His excuse was that hehad only transferred those 2,000 dollars every month because he had been planning to marry me at the time.
"However, we had agreed from the very start to share the costs of our living expenses. I dated that bastard for two years. In those two years, all the presents that he gave me didn't even amount to 500 dollars.
"Meanwhile, I remember giving him a pair of shoes that cost more than 1,000 dollars. Not only that, but I also bought a lot of skins for him for his games. I really want you to think this decision through, Jasmine."
Jasmine felt a little embarrassed.
"Molly, I know that you're just looking out for me, but Lucas isn't that type of man. He told me that he'll pay for the rent and utilities. He also said that we can split the living expenses. He'll pay 70% and I'll pay 30%.
"I even took him to meet my parents. We're planning to get married eventually."
"He has already met your parents? When did this happen?" Tessa was shocked to hear this. She had no idea that Jasmine had already brought Lucas to meet her parents.
"Just a few days ago, when the law firm was closed for the holidays. My parents like him a lot. We're just a normal family, after all. Now that Lucas has found a stable job, he has shown that he's a hard, working man who isn't afraid of any hardship. My parents like that about him, so they've given us their blessings."
Molly asked, "Do your parents agree with you moving in with him?"
Jasmine hesitated for a moment before she shook her head. "I didn't tell them."
Molly shot her a look that said "I knew it" without words.
Tessa asked, "If Lucas is going to live with you, then what's going to happen to Anne? She's still an elementary school student, correct?"
"Yes. Anne will live with us too. We're planning to rent a two-bedroom apartment for the time being. When we've saved up enough money to pay for the deposit, we're going to buy a house in Rivertown."
What do you think?
