House Of Legions (The Angel Descendants book 1)

Chapter 25 (Clare)

Chapter 25 (Clare)

“There must be a reason the Tempter was after me, he said he HAD to kill me, it wasn't his choice..”

The words were not complete in her mouth when he touched her lips with dirty fingers, as if he ignored the last words or didn’t hear them, he said, “Reason isn't important now, there could be many reasons why.” He added, before he walked on in front of her, his voice still clear to her ears, “You ARE a female and your mother’s daughter, which makes you naturally one of the strongest Lightwatchers, and also makes YOU a big target, Franchesca made a lot of enemies along the years.”

His mind lost itself in his memories, she could hear the distance in his voice, and moved closer to him, “You know child, we all lived together once, you training with your brothers, and Nadia at the Washington faculty. Raphael, an Asguardian, an angels spawn was always around keeping you busy, in verses and offense training, I didn’t know why he stayed. But the day you killed your first Ravenor demon, I was with you, both of us thrilled we wanted to celebrate. You wanted to go ice-skating and have strawberry and berry ice cream at the square. Nathan was sick that day so he stayed at home, Club, well in his moods AGAIN.”

“Calub,”

“Yes, Calubeal is your brother, not much younger than you. Your mother was driving that night, we just turned the corner when we saw this bright blue light, at first we thought it was harmless, but there he stood, an Angel, your mother swerved the car, but the Angel was determined. He lifted the car while we were still in it, and threw it against a block of flats, he still tried to grab you but another Angel came, he had these red wings, they were magnificent and I remember him saying, ‘don’t worry I will finish her off,’ but instead of killing you, he showed you mercy, and let us go, Franchesca and I were ok, we healed quickly, but you just weren’t healing, we rushed you to the hospital, after hours of waiting, doctors said you were fine physically but had suffered a major blow to the head, and you couldn’t remember. You didn’t recognize me, you only knew your mother, your seal of strength was gone, all that made you part Angel had vanished, you were DECEPTOR, human.”

Clare looked at him dazed, but chose not to speak only listen. He wasn’t really paying much attention as he spoke, and she was too scared to break this moment of truth,

“We did what we had to Clare, someone had to look after Nathan and Calub and run the faculty, after that I didn’t know much, if there was another reason, I’m the last person Franchesca would’ve told, always so private and protective, Franchesca always had her secrets.” Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.

Clare hastened as his steps got bigger, it seemed that he was making a conscious effort to walk slow earlier, because now that he wasn’t paying attention he walked so fast that Clare had to speed up in a slight jog.

Caidrian spun around, suddenly, and she stopped, putting her hands on her knees to catch her breath, packets in hands.

Caidrian’s breathing was normal when he said, “This war we have fought for years.” He continued, “There is no winning it, lives are lost constantly, I consider you lucky having that time to live like a deceptor.”

This guy had seriously lost his mind, she thought, “It weren’t the first time, an angel and a Tempter hunted down Draiken blood and it won’t be the last, I’m sure of it.” It was the matter-of-fact tone he used again that raised her shackles.

Clare’s throat scratched from dryness, “Draiken?”

“It’s your mother’s bloodline, Franchesca Draiken, her family is the first descendants of Mikael. There was a time many years before, the Draikens’ was a big family, hundreds of leaders, until the battle of descendants, the Tempters and Angels hunted your mother’s family based on a myth. After, there remained a handful of them. When your great grandmother, Alinore Draiken and the others got of age to marry, it was forced that descendants of Raziel and Gabriel marry the women, to strengthen the

bloodline, to keep the Draikens’ blood alive, and strong, many agreed because their offspring were guaranteed good fighters.”

“Is that why you and mom married?”
