Chapter 3
“If you can’t find her, so be it. That wretched girl kept claiming she wasn’t feeling well, but I saw her running and jumping around without a care in the world!”
My mother spat the words out in frustration and anger, as if she was annoyed to even hear any news about me.
Eric said nothing in response, his attention fully absorbed by the woman lying in bed.
Evie slowly opened her eyes, having slept for hours, now irritated by the noise around her. “Mom, what’s going on that you’re making such a racket by my bedside?”
It was just a normal conversation, the noise wasn’t even that loud…
I watched the look of displeasure cross Evie’s face and saw how quickly my mother’s demeanor shifted, like flipping a switch. “Oh, it’s your sister again, off running around, and now she’s gone!”
“Forget about her. Evie, you just woke up—what would you like to eat?”
Eric, as usual, went along smoothly, his eyes filled with tenderness as he smiled and took Evie’s hand. His dark eyes held a faint longing, making him appear deeply affectionate.
“Evie, Mom just told me… she said you still have feelings for me. Do you? Do you still love me?”
Such a direct question brought a hint of bashfulness to Evie’s face.
She averted her gaze, but a smug smile tugged at her lips.
It was always like this—whenever she easily took something I cared about, that same look of satisfaction would appear.
“Whether you love me or not, I’ve made up my mind. You’re the only woman I ever want to marry.”
Eric’s bold declaration of love rang out with absolute conviction.
Mom stood by, visibly excited, watching them with perfect understanding, as if I had never existed. Maybe they simply saw me as someone not worth mentioning.
Evie’s eyes changed in an instant, filled with anticipation, desire.
“I… I don’t know,” she stammered, but her blushing face was more radiant than the blossoms of spring.
As for me, from beginning to end, I was nothing more than a spare part.
Eric boldly took her hand, his eyes sparkling with excitement, brimming with joy. “I came here to see the sights with you, but I didn’t have the right status. Evie, from now on, let’s always be together, alright?”All rights © NôvelDrama.Org.
Evie threw herself into his arms, muffling her response against his chest.
Those beautiful eyes of hers held nothing but unrestrained triumph.
To her, as long as she could take away something I cared about, she’d be happy for a long time.
And I could only stand by, silently watching, powerless to respond.
