Jilted Ex-wife Billionaire Heiress

Chapter 39

Chapter 39 The Trap's Set

Despite being seated, Darya had the more commanding presence.

Sharon locked eyes with the vice president and had to take a step back.

The woman had a penetrating gaze, she thought.

'I was just trying to share my insight.' She softened her voice. 'After all, I've been on the job a lot longer than

you. It doesn't hurt to listen to others' advice, you know.'

She hoped Darya got the message.

Sharon had done her research.

Darya Miller used to be married to Micah Cavanaugh, but the word on the street was, she was tossed out after

Micah found someone new.

Then she hooked up with Avery McAllister, who got her the position of vice president at Paragon.

For the three years before that, Darya was a full-time housewife.

Sharon was pretty sure the woman had never held a proper job before.

If she knew what was good for her, Darya Miller would follow Sharon's suggestion.

Sharon lowered her eyes and smiled, hiding her derision.

She had worked her butt off at the company for years.

The position of VP rightfully belonged to her.

But she was confident that Darya wouldn't be able to hold on to the job for long.

She had a plan.

If Darya ignored her advice and went ahead with the Solaro project, Sharon would step up and save the day when the project crashed and burned under Darya's ineffective leadership.

If Darya listened to her and went with Kemp Industries, she would be walking right into the trap Sharon had

set.

Either way, Sharon would come out on top.

Darya didn't need to be a mind reader to know what was going on in her subordinate's head.

Sharon's self-satisfied smile told it all.

'I'll think about it. You are dismissed.' Darya set the file aside.

Sharon paused at the door and took in the spacious office, tastefully decorated.

This would soon be hers, she thought.

Darya waited for the door to close before dialling the company's internal line.

Glen Chasey appeared in front of her desk three minutes later.

The capable executive assistant was Avery's right-hand man, currently on loan to Darya.

'Yes, Miss McAllister.' Glen was one of the select few at the company who were aware of Darya's real identity.

'Just Darya's fine. And I'm Darya Miller while I'm at Paragon.'

'Of course, Miss Miller.' The assistant wore a pair of gold-rimmed glasses

perched on his high nose bridge.

But instead of looking professorial, he gave off the vibe of a shrewd, calculating businessman.

Perhaps it had something to do with the sharp glint in his eyes.

'Andrew Corbyn sits on the board of Solaro. You know him?'

'Yes. I've dealt with him several times in the past.'

'Good. Could you set up a meeting for me? You have access to my work calendar. Pick any date and time that

works. The sooner, the better.'

'I'll get right on it.'

'Thanks.'

Glen was already pulling up Andrew Corbyn's number as he left the office.

Time passed quickly when one was busy.

Other than the Solaro project, Darya had plenty more work to do.

Paragon wasn't just involved in the energy sector.

As the vice president in charge of business expansion, she had to familiarise herself with all the major

operations.

By the time she looked up from a pile of reading materials on cloud-based banking solutions, it was half past

twelve.

Her shoulders and back complained of the long hours of sitting.

Darya stood up, stretched, did a few yoga moves and took a walk around the office.

Bianca knocked once before entering. 'I brought you lunch.'

She'd just returned from a client meeting and passed a bistro on the way.

"Thanks. What am I having?' Darya fetched two cups of coffee for her and her friend.

'Chicken salad tossed with green mango, wild grains, and pickled ginger dressing.' Bianca set down the bento box in one hand.

'You've got something else there.' Darya saw Bianca hiding her right arm behind

her back.

'Nothing gets by you. Bianca produced a bouquet of red roses. 'Ta-da!"

'Another admirer of yours?' Darya smiled. 'Let me guess, is it Archie in

Accounting, or Sam in Marketing?

Since Bianca started working at Paragon, more than half a dozen employees had engineered chance encounters

with her.

Two had asked her out straight away.

But Darya knew none of them stood a chance-her best friend's heart had been

pledged to someone else

'Not mine.' Bianca shook her head.

She plonked herself down in the visitor's chair. 'Yours."noveldrama

'Hmm?' Darya inhaled the fruity scent of the dewy roses, aptly named 'Fragrant Cloud.""

She counted a dozen of them.

'Timmy waylaid me on my way back. Asked me to give this to you.'

'Timmy? Timothy Barrett?'

'How many other Timmys do you know?'

'Just the one.'

'That's him.' Bianca shrugged.

'Did he tell you why?' No card came with the flowers.

'He didn't have to. Everybody knows what roses mean. Don't you?'

'Sure.' Darya knitted her brows. 'But Timothy's a friend, not a...'

'Not an admirer?' Bianca finished the thought for her. 'He said he wanted to ask you out last night, didn't he?"

'He was obviously joking. We've known each other for years. If he wanted to ask me out, he would've done so a long time ago.'

With an older brother to shoulder the responsibilities of taking over the family business, Timothy had the luxury to lead a carefree life.

He started dating at the tender age of twelve and never had a relationship that lasted longer than six months. 'Maybe de doesn't want to be just friends anymore.' Bianca leaned over, picked up a cherry tomato from the bento box and popped it into her mouth.

'I'll talk to him.' Darya didn't speak again until she'd finished the chicken salad. 'How was your meeting with

Hunter Kemp?'

'From a business perspective, it went great. From a personal one...' Bianca

scrunched up her nose in disgust.

'Did he put the moves on you?'
