Chapter 382
"How did you know I was here?" Miranda asked, raising an eyebrow.
Elian smirked, "Finding you was a piece of cake, wasn't it, wifey?"
Miranda had grown immune to Elian's casual use of "darling or wifey" at this point.
It seemed like she heard it so often that she couldn't even be bothered to roll her eyes anymore. Elian seemed to know exactly how to handle her.
She used to scoff at the idea of persistent suitors getting their way, but now she was starting to feel it.
Glancing around, she suddenly realized, "I drove here today."
Wait. Where was her car?
Elian raised his eyebrows. "I had someone drive it back for you," he said, nodding towards the passenger seat beside him.
There was something almost mischievously charming about the way he signaled her over.
Miranda stepped forward, opened the door, and slid into the passenger seat. The engine roared to life, and soon they were headed towards Miranda's place. "Got a lot of free time, do you?" Miranda asked, curiosity piqued.
Elian pulled over to the side of the road and turned his full attention to her, eyes twinkling. "Just finished a meeting. Thought I'd make the most of the time I have before heading back to base."
The military meeting had stretched on for most of the day. Finally freed, he came straight to see her. Looking at his attire, she noticed he still wore his military uniform beneath his coat.
She recognized the uniform's hue, similar to Timothy's, yet somehow darker, more intense. A peculiar urge to see what lay beneath Elian's outer layer flitted through her mind.
Oh no. Was she getting brazen now too?
Elian's intense gaze made her squirm a little. "Why'd you stop the car?"
His grin spread like sunshine. "Can't watch you properly while driving. But now I can."
Miranda was momentarily speechless. "What are you looking at me for?" His directness made her avert her gaze.
"Just looking. You're pretty," Elian chuckled. "Seeing you makes me happy."
Miranda cleared her throat awkwardly. "Speak plainly."noveldrama
Elian's eyes twinkled with mischief. "I like you."
Miranda was caught off guard.
Elian repeated, "I like you."
She found herself at a loss,
overwhelmed by the straightforward declaration. She wasn't used to
expressing her emotions openly, and Elian's forthrightness left hep momentarily speechless.
Elian was a simple guy when it came to emotions. His heart was full, and he needed to let it spill over, to make sure Miranda understood how he felt. He didn't overthink it; hegust
said what was in his heart.
Especially since he couldn't be with her all the time, he needed to make the most
of the moments they had.
"So, about what you said that night," Elian inquired.
Miranda frowned, "What did I say?"
Elian pressed on, almost as if afraid she'd deny it, "You said you liked me."
At the time, saying it hadn't seemed like a big deal, but now, with Elian bringing it up, she felt a little shy.
Seeing her lips pressed together in silence, Elian feigned a pout. "I knew it. You were just saying it to say it. You don't really like me. I knew you wouldn't own up."
As Elian's words trailed off, Miranda realized she was in deep trouble.
She was caught in Elian's grip-hook, line, and sinker.
Because she actually wanted to explain herself.
And she did.
"I wasn't just saying it."
"I meant it."
"I wasn't lying to you."
What do you think?
