Kiss My Revenge The Heiress Strikes Back

Chapter 395

Mr. Ashcroft was pacing back and forth, his face flushed with anger. The butler hovered nearby, worried that Mr. Ashcroft might have a heart attack right then and there.

"Please, sir, calm down," the butler urged, trying to soothe him. "You've just recovered from your illness."noveldrama

"How can I calm down?" Mr. Ashcroft snapped, continuing to pace. "That rascal Sebastian has gone too far this time, even trying to steal Elian's girl, Miranda! Can you believe that?"

"Miranda was supposed to be my future granddaughter-in-law," he fumed. "I've already bragged about it to all my buddies. Everyone knows Miranda is meant for Elian, and now she's been swept away by someone else. It's humiliating!"

Almost every retired general in their circle knew that Miranda was to be the future Mrs. Elian Ashcroft. He had even presided over the informal engagement party, beaming with pride.

And now, Sebastian from the Everhart family had swooped in and taken her.

"My future granddaughter-in-law, just like that!" he lamented.

"No, this won't do. I need to call Elian," he decided, grabbing his phone to dial his grandson.

But Elian wasn't picking up.

"Probably at the military base or something," he grumbled, his expression souring.

"That boy has only himself to blame for not holding onto his girl. Now look what's happened."

Mr. Ashcroft, suddenly weary of the drama, sat down with a sigh. "Fine, if she's his, he can go after her himself."

Miranda wasn't the type to have a change of heart easily. If she truly liked Elian, she wouldn't be swayed so quickly by someone else.

But then again, Sebastian was quite the catch.

"No, I can't just let this go," Mr. Ashcroft resolved, reaching for his phone again. "I'll give Mr. Everhart a call."

Meanwhile, the retired Mr. Everhart was rudely awakened from his peace and quiet by a call from Mr. Ashcroft, who launched into a tirade.

"Mr. Everhart, this is unacceptable! Look at what your grandson's done, trying to steal someone else's girl!"

"Miranda is meant to be my family's daughter-in-law, so back off!"

Mr. Ashcroft, with his military background, unleashed a barrage of words with full force, his voice echoing with authority.

Mr. Everhart, bewildered, found himself on the receiving end of a call that ended before he could even protest.

"Get Sebastian on the line," he instructed his assistant. "Find out what on earth Ashcroft is talking about."

Had the old man gone mad? Why was Sebastian being accused of such things?

Sebastian meanwhile, was at the clinic, observing Miranda as she

worked. He didn't interrupt, net

just

watched from a distance with a slight smile playing on his lips.

"Tell Grandpa not to worry about my affairs," he said when his phone buzzed with the message from home. "And if he's really upset...well, he can always yell back."

His words were gentle, yet there was a sharp edge to them.

After hanging up, he continued to watch Miranda, who was engrossed in her work.

Susie, her patient, was already in a deep sleep, while Miranda focused intently, her forehead glistening with sweat.

She'd been at it for three hours now.

In times like these, when Miranda was so absorbed in her work, she was even more captivating than usual Though she was never exactly cold to him, she certainly wasn't warm either.

She treated Sebastian and Elian differently, and he knew it.

Even though he suspected she might not care for the version of himself he

presented, he couldn't bring himself to show her any other side.

Perhaps, when the day came that he could no longer suppress his true feelings.

Miranda, sensing Sebastian's gaze, glanced over her shoulder at him.

"I'm hungry," she said simply. "Could you get me something to eat?"

UT

The acupuncture had taken longer than expected, and she'd also been testing blood samples. The energy required for dealing with magic-induced ailments was far greater than that for ordinary illnesses, leaving her both mentally and physically drained.

Sebastian, hiding his deeper feelings, smiled. "Of course."
