Love That Wasn't Meant to Last

Chapter 21

At Zion's request, I unblocked Selena's number. As soon as I finished my call with Sylvia, Selena started flooding my phone with messages.

"Hud, I miss you so much!"

"Where are you right now? Have you eaten? What did you eat? Was it any good?"

I felt a bit torn while reading her nonstop messages. Now that I had a girlfriend, should I even be replying?

While I was still hesitating, there was a sudden knock on my door. I raised an eyebrow, feeling a strange sense of unease. I was here alone-who would be knocking? Reluctantly, I opened the door.

To my surprise, standing there was Zion, flanked by several unfamiliar men, all large and intimidating. This definitely didn't look good.

"Why is it you again? And how did you know I was staying here? And what's with these guys?" I asked, frustrated. I hadn't shared my whereabouts with anyone- how did Zion even find me?

He just sized me up and explained, "I saw you entering the hotel. All I had to do was to pay to know which room you're staying in."

Looking down at his phone, he explained why he was there, "Selena wants to see you. Come with me to the hospital-she needs you. I've arranged for a bed for you there so you can stay overnight."

The way he said it wasn't a request; it was more like he was just informing me.

His attitude rubbed me the wrong way, so I instinctively refused, "It's already 10:00 pm. I've been busy all day and I'm exhausted. I just want to rest. Let's discuss Selena tomorrow, okay?"

He didn't respond. Instead, he pulled out his phone and made a video call to Selena.

She answered almost instantly, and as soon as she saw me, she broke into a huge smile, repeatedly calling my name.

"Hud! Hud, where are you? Why didn't you reply to my messages? Have you still not forgiven me? Hud..."

Seeing that I didn't respond, her face twisted into an expression of despair. She clutched her hair, screaming and becoming increasingly agitated.noveldrama

Watching her unravel like that, Zion's expression soured, though he softened as he turned back to her. "Selena, don't worry. I'll bring Hudson to you soon. Just wait."

Then he turned back to me, his voice sounding icy as he said, "Selena's like this, and you still don't want to come with me?"

Seeing Selena in that state, I frowned. I had no idea what I had done to provoke such a reaction from her, but I had no choice. Reluctantly, I followed Zion back to the hospital.

That night, I signed up to stay in the room with her. They placed a cot next to Selena's bed, and I settled in for the night.

She was thrilled to have me there. She wouldn't stop talking, keeping me awake until three or four in the morning before finally falling asleep herself.

Watching her sleep, calm and peaceful, I couldn't help but wonder—what had happened to her? How had she gone from the person I knew to the one lying here tonight? What had she gone through while I was gone, completely unaware?
