Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 605

Selena found herself wrapped in his arms, listening to the rapid thud of his heartbeat—a clear sign of how much he cared. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes for a moment.

Instead of dwelling on the issue, she lifted her head from his chest and said, "Everett, you're really late, and I'm upset about it."

"If you'd been just a few seconds later, our anniversary would've slipped by. You know that, right?" Without genuine intention, it would've been better not to celebrate at all. Expectations only lead to disappointment. But to offer hope and then shatter it-that's just too cruel.

"I'm sorry, Selena. It's all my fault..."

Tonight, Everett's demeanor was unusually gentle, making it hard for her to stay mad. The night was already late, and the fancy dinner she'd prepared was cold, so Everett had someone quickly whip up some pasta for them.

They ate together under the dazzling fireworks. Selena, mindful of her diet, picked at her food, while Everett, genuinely hungry, devoured his portion and finished off hers as well.

Afterwards, instead of heading back to Crescent Bay, Everett drove them to a swanky six-star hotel suite. As they walked in, the room was decked out with decorations, clearly set up ahead of time.

Everett wrapped his strong arms around Selena from behind, his lips brushing her ear as he spoke in a low, melodic voice, "Selena, on such a special day, I want a night that's just ours."

Since their son was born, getting cozy at home made Selena uneasy. The last close call with their son had led her to keep Everett at arm's length for days, almost driving him nuts.

Here, it was just the two of them, without any interruptions. His words were full of suggestion, causing Selena's cheeks to warm. She wasn't as quick to get into the mood as he was and shifted awkwardly. "I'm going to take a shower first."

Everett didn't object-in fact, he chimed in, "Great idea, let's shower together!"

Selena: "..."

That wasn't what she intended!

But Everett paid no mind to her actual intentions. He took it his way, scooping her up and carrying her to the bathroom.

The bathroom was huge, with a small soaking tub and walls made of two-way mirrored glass, offering a view only from the inside.

Even though the glass was opaque from outside, Selena felt a bit uneasy a mental block about the

whole setup. As soon as she was in the water, she tried to make a run for it.

Everett wasn't having it, catching her slender ankle and pulling her onto his lap, leaning in to kiss her while deftly slipping a hand beneath her clothes.

"Don't worry, it's completely private, and besides, isn't this thrilling..."

Men always did love a bit of excitement.

Selena couldn't resist him, her tension keeping her from relaxing. Everett playfully swatted her backside, making her let out a soft yelp.

His touch was even hotter than the steamy water around them.

"I was late earlier, so let me make it up to you, Mrs. Bennett, okay?"

Selena turned her head, "Who needs your kind of apology? Get off!"
