Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Everett set Haley down and, with a few swift strides, was right in front of Selena. He grabbed her slender wrist and practically dragged her back upstairs into the bedroom.

With a loud bang, he slammed the door shut and tossed her onto the bed. In an instant, his tall frame hovered over her delicate figure, exuding a menacing and intimidating presence.

Selena knew resisting his brute force was pointless, so she didn't even bother trying. Her eyes, however, remained icy cold, as if she was looking at someone who didn't matter.

"What are you doing here, Mr. Everett?" she asked, her voice detached.

Her words only fueled Everett's anger. His long fingers clamped onto Selena's chin as he demanded, "Weren't you the one who wanted me here? Selena, if you're gonna play games, be ready to deal with the fallout. Aren't you worried about where this could lead?"

At first, Selena didn't get what he was on about, but it quickly clicked. This self- absorbed man thought she had returned to Newport with her kids because she still had feelings for him. That she had Rhett over just to get under his skin.

Selena always knew how ridiculously confident he was, but this took the cake. It was so absurd, she couldn't help but laugh.

"Everett, could you be any more full of yourself? I came back to Newport for my own reasons, and trust me, they have zilch to do with you. Stop flattering yourself!"

Everett didn't buy it for a second. He figured she was just upset about his upcoming engagement and was acting out. Still, Rhett's presence did make him feel a bit uneasy. Not because he thought Rhett could actually win Selena over, but because he couldn't stand any man being close to her.

If she played with fire, who knows what could happen? That was a risk he wasn't willing to take. Selena was his, and only his.

Over time, he had learned how to handle her. She was spoiled by his past indulgence, so delicate that she needed gentle handling.

Everett softened his tone, "Selena, can we drop this nonsense?"

"We have two kids together; we can't just cut ties. I can't allow my kids to call another man 'dad'."

As he spoke, he leaned down to kiss her lips. It had been days since he last felt close to her, and he missed her terribly. Her lips were soft and sweet he intended to stop at a brief taste, but once he made contact, all control vanished.

Instinctively, he tried to deepen the kiss, only to be met with a sharp slap from Selena, her eyes steady and unyielding.

Everett froze, his handsome face contorted with rage. He gripped her wrist tightly, almost crushing her bones.

"Selena! Don't you dare..." he growled, each word forced through clenched teeth. Yet, he couldn't finish his thought.

Selena, however, smiled and finished it for him. "You think I'm being ungrateful, right?"

"Mr. Everett thinks he's doing me a favor by offering me a way out, and I should be thankful, not playing hard to get, huh?"
