Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 965

He murmured softly in her ear, "Maybe I'm just a bit crazy."

When he wasn't in love, he couldn't be bothered; but once he fell, he loved with wild abandon.

Not even Selena could stand in his way.

In the end, both of them succumbed to the thick, swirling smoke.

Selena once again found herself dreaming of her teenage years.

She had been utterly smitten with the frail yet aloof Everett at first glance and would sneak out to the backyard every day just to steal a glimpse of him.

She thought she was being sly, but little did she know, everything was caught on camera. Whenever Everett was in a foul mood, he'd sit in front of the TV, watching Selena's little charade unfold.

At first, he found her intrusive and irritating.

Later on, he found her antics somewhat amusing.

Eventually, he grew accustomed to her presence.

During his arduous recovery, when his heart ached, watching her brought him a rare sense of joy.

Her teenage infatuation, the unrequited love as she grew up, the heartache from her marriage—all of it finally came to light.

The Everett she loved so deeply, with all his might, fought for her and the child she carried, giving them a fighting chance.

Selena came to three days later, her throat raw from the smoke, with a few scrapes and bruises but otherwise okay.

Everett, though, was in far worse shape.

His back, fingers, and limbs had suffered various degrees of burns. The scariest part was his mechanical heart-it had been damaged, resulting in a crack that disrupted blood flow. His surgery took ages, and even afterward, he remained in a

coma.

The doctors did everything they could, but whether he'd wake up was anyone's guess.

When Selena awoke, she was wheeled into his hospital room, unexpectedly calm. She sat quietly by his side.

Tears wouldn't help, and Everett wouldn't want to see her cry.

She knew him better than anyone else.

He was a fighter; he would race against fate itself. He wouldn't leave her or their three kids behind.

...

Time passed swiftly, and three months later...

In the CEO's office at Bennett Corporation,

Selena signed off on the last document, rubbing her temples with fatigue.

Alex watched her with concern, seeing how far along she was in ber pregnancy. "Ma'am, you really need to take it easy. Why not let a professional manager handle the company affairs?"

Selena shook her head. "It's okay. This little one seems to understand how tough things are and has been quite easygoing. I need to be the one making the big calls at Bennett Corporation, or those uncles might start thinking there's nobody left in our family to lead." Contént

For a moment, Alex saw a glimpse of Mr. Everett in Selena.

She felt a sense of comfort.

"Ma'am, you're growing more and more like Mr. Everett."

Selena chuckled softly. "He did teach me well."

During those six months, Everett had practically taught her everything firsthand, so now, as long as henoveldrama

for him.

Mentioning Everett, Alex's expression turned a bit somber. "Ma'am, do you really think... Mr. Everett will wake up?"

After three months, the chances seemed slim.

Even all the top doctors who had seen him just shook their heads.

Selena's hand tightened unconsciously, her eyes misting slightly, but she forced a smile. "He will wake up."

Just as she finished speaking, Selena's phone rang. She glanced at it and saw it was a call from the hospital.

Quickly, she picked up, "Hello..."

Caregiver: "Ma'am, you need to come to the hospital. Mr. Everett is showing signs of waking up!"
