Chapter 23
{I Know That Tone}
Ava POV
“It’s nice to have you here Ava Addams… ” Rucker Marshall said into the mic and smiled at him. But then my gaze came in contact with someone I have a huge crush on.
“Martin Luther. My heart skipped. He’s staring at me, he is staring. Snapping back to reality, I moved my gaze elsewhere while gulping nothing down my throat.
“Are you nervous? ” Janice whispered behind me and I shook my head.
“I’m cool. ” I replied after turning off the mic. After making my face cool, she shifts back and turns to look at my country’s public figure.
(Clearing my throat.) “I don’t know what my mom does here, in light of the fact that I don’t like coming to the club. But I will try my best to make everyone satisfied before living. ” I said into the mic. A round of applause followed and I turned around to walk back to the bar when a voice made me stop in my tracks.
“Sorry if you don’t mind Miss Ava. ” The voice said and I turned around to see whose voice was that.
“Hailey Baldwin. ” I thought and nodded.
“There’s no resemblance—”
“Between the owner of the club? ” I uttered with a questioning facial expression. She took her seat and I cleared my throat.
“Adopted daughter? I’m adopted. ” I revealed. Some of them smiled, while some of them gasped.
“I will be away. Thank you. ” I said into the mic and turned away from the audience. I felt their eyes on me and shot my eyes tightly. I managed to get out of the room and a deep breath of relief escaped my lips when I finally got out of the room…
“You did well, Ava! ” Janice’s voice came in a whisper, which made me raise my head.Copyright by Nôv/elDrama.Org.
“I did! ” I exclaimed a bit and she nodded with a visible smile on her lips.
“So, what’s next? ” I asked nervously and she signed.
“You will be on the seat at the back of the room, perhaps you can walk around when you feel exhausted. ” She uttered, all I could do was stare at her as if she suddenly grew horns.
(Stuttering) “I will just sit down… ” I whispered those words and she shut her eyes in concern.
“Some of them will want to have strippers around them to entertain them. ” Janice explained and I nodded in understanding.
“Okay. I will go—”
“Janice, your attention is needed downstairs. ” One of the strippers’ voices said from the hallway that leads to the elevator.
“Is it that important? ” She asked and I turned to look at the lady’s face.
“Yes, it’s your usual man… He doesn’t want anyone apart from you. ” The lady shouted and stormed away. I looked at Janice and her lips curve up into a warm smile I hardly see on her face.
(Grinning) “Who is this special man that wants no one else apart from you? Girl, you are smiling. ” I winked at her and she blushed.
“Nobody. ” She uttered and swallowed those feelings and emotions.
“You gotta do the rest alone Ava, you can do it. ” She uttered and cupped my cheeks and went away after I nodded to her pouting face.
I took a deep breath and sighed deeply.
“Having a hard time. ” The female voice came from behind and I rolled my eyes as I turned around to face her.
“No, I’m cool. ” I forced out a smile and she went towards the highway…
“Is she leaving? ” I thought and looked at her hand. No bag, maybe she’s going out to get some fresh air.
I opened the door and went back inside… This time around, almost every male had strippers with them. Some were making out… Sighting that alone made me remember Dalton and Lucky, two men who had sex with me in a day. Without concentrating on where I was going, I bumped into someone.
“Oh My God! ” I gasped and touched his white shirt.
(Stuttering) “I’m sorry… ” I pleaded over and over… My voice is nearly breaking. Sincerely, Am almost close to tears.
“You okay? ” The deep voice came into the thin air, that was when I knew I didn’t even know who I bumped into. Slowly raising my head and a slight gasp escaped my lips when my gaze came in contact with his.
(Stuttering..) “I’m sorry. I’m… I…—” The rate my heart was beating could be loud enough for someone with magical abilities to hear it afar. Everything collapsed when he took my hand and walked me to the back door. Making us escape the noisy room to the silent room.
I didn’t know there was a door here, not even a room. Janice didn’t tell me this.
“Take a deep breath. ” He uttered calmly as he used his hand to demonstrate his words. Consciously, I followed his words and my breathing rate went back to its normal rate.
“Are you fine now? ” He asked as he picked up a bottle of water from the small fridge. At this moment, I looked around and I saw a medium bed, a table and a chair with a laptop on it… I looked to the right and I saw a minibar and restroom.
I returned my gaze at him and I found him staring at me.
“Martin Luther… ” I screamed in my head.
(Stuttering) “What’s this room? ” I mumbled, looking around in disbelief.
“My room. Just a small hideout from the world… ” He replied and he walked to the window to have a view.
“It’s soundproofed. ” I uttered when realizing I can’t hear the music.
“Mmmm. ” He hummed and turned around.
Silence descended, no one was talking, just an exchange of stares, gazes.
“Ava. ” He called with a groan.
“I know that tone. “
