Chapter 31 The Bias Is Blatant
Chapter 31 The Bias Is Blatant
Could it be that Hendrix already knew their relationship was bad? Or he had already known they did not
live together? Oh yes, why would he pass by the bachelor apartment she stayed last time?
From what she saw, Hendrix seemed to not know about anything, but could he in fact know their
situation very well? Riley secretly made some conjectures in her mind and she waited for Hendrix’s
reply uneasily.
“So you guys have had an argument few days ago?” Hendrix leaned against the door and did not show
any obvious fluctuation in emotion.
He spoke absent-mindedly, “You guys have fought when we were just having a banquet, therefore I
nearly misunderstood your relationship. Turns out I’m wrong, you guys seem to love each other very
much, how disappointing.”
Riley’s tight grasp towards the spatula slightly loosened and she carefully transferred the fried egg from
the pan to the plate. “Is that so. I did have some small conflicts with your brother, but it’s okay now.”
Hendrix nodded and seemed to understand. He then tossed another lighted bomb once again. “Small
conflicts? I don’t think it’s small. What happened between big brother and Lydia Saunders has stirred
up a hot topic in the city, mom and dad have intervened in this matter. If this matter becomes worse,
Riley, I have to remind you that the overall situation would not benefit you at all.”
Riley stood with her back against him and a light smile broke upon her lips. “You sound like you’re
more inclined to help me. Aren’t you afraid that your brother would know about this?”
Hendrix rubbed his nose airily and said, “Although I don’t really want you to become my sister-in-law, I
dislike Lydia Saunders more. If big brother really be with her…”
After finishing the words, he paused. “Hmm? It doesn’t seem that bad too.” Damn! And she was hoping
he could say something nice, it seemed like she had overthought. She could not count on anyone from
the George family. But anyway, she did not intend to count on them either.
She distributed the three fried eggs on three white ceramic plates and toasted the bread slices. “Looks
like you’re gonna be disappointed. My relationship with your brother is very good and as for Lydia,
she’ll be good if I let her. But if she’s challenged my limit, I’ll naturally have ways to let her fall from
heaven.”
Hendrix’s eyes kept on following the movement of her hands. She was now holding today’s breakfast
with her hands that had touched the stethoscopes. All of a sudden, his heart ached and his face
contorted.
“You are no wonder the mistress of the George family. You sound like you have a lot of power. But don’t
you forget, Lydia Saunders has the enormous Saunders family’s support, and all of them would prepare
to make a move if anything strikes them. If the Saunders family pressurizes you, your day would be…”
“Hendrix?” Euan’s voice was heard from the living room before Hendrix even finished speaking, and
that coincidentally ended their conversation.
“Why, how fast, big brother. Riley’s finished making the breakfast and just like you said, her cooking
skill is only average. It’s completely incomparable to the cooking at our mansion.”
Hendrix pouted and headed back to the living room. Riley recalled what he had not finished saying just
now and could not help but sneer. Could she possibly be unable to offend the Saunders family? She
was only reluctant to do so due to contempt.
“You could refuse to eat if you think it’s nasty, wouldn’t it be better to eat back at the mansion
afterwards?” She carried the breakfast made for three out with a tray. The breakfast was simple but it
contained balance nutrition. The three sunny-side up eggs looked delicious with a golden egg yolk on
top.
Hendrix acted like a reckless child and replied, “No can do. I’ve come all the long way here just to taste
your lovely breakfast. That would be such a pity if I leave. I’ll start eating now, hope you don’t mind, big
brother.” Euan lifted the milk glass and put it near his lips. “Help yourself.”
Seeing him going to drink the milk, Riley reminded him gently, “It’s not good to have milk with an empty
stomach, do have the egg first.” Her reminder made Euan stopped his movement at once. His astute
eyes moved from the seat of the dining table to the woman at his right.
She was wearing a kind smile and was obviously acting for Hendrix. Yet her eyes looked so pure that it
was impossible to discern any trace of pretending. He nearly thought it was his own wife’s
heartwarming reminder the moment his mind drifted away.
Euan put down the milk right in front of Hendrix and moved the breakfast plate towards him. Riley
handed him the fork and knife just in time without any expression or saying any word. Euan’s deep
eyes swept across her hands and took over the cutleries.
Their fingers came into contact gently above the dining table and the warmth quickly spread from the
fingertips. Riley quickly retrieved her hand and did not look at him anymore.
Hendrix ate the fried egg while speaking enviously and jealously, “Come on, won’t it be kinda bad to act
all lovey-dovey when it’s only morning? My mood now is worse than the weather outside, can’t you let
me enjoy a nice meal?”
Riley sipped the milk and caught a glimpse of Euan from the corner of her eyes. He was cutting the egg
gracefully and slowly, and putting it into his mouth. Her cooking skill was actually not bad, it was just
that she could not show it on breakfast at all. Yet how would Euan only eat her breakfast?
“If you don’t want to eat with manner, you can either go back or shut your mouth.” Hendrix coughed and
replied, “Alright, alright, I’ll shut my mouth and eat. Oh, I’m hungry. I’ve been tortured for the whole
morning and I’m exhausted.” The torture he indicated was the fact that the married couple before him
who was still having sex in the morning had refused to open the door for him after a long time.
All of them ate their breakfast while having thoughts in their mind. The awkward meal was finally
finished after that and Riley washed the plates in the kitchen. Hendrix caressed his stomach and
asked, “Big brother, since Riley is such a good wife, why should you hook up with Lydia Saunders? If
you truly love Riley, you shouldn’t mess with her.”
Euan flipped open the financial newspapers to look at the stock market condition. Without looking up,
he said, “Hendrix, you don’t need to intervene in adults’ business.”
Hendrix said, “…big brother, you knew what I meant. Lydia does not approach you for nothing. I hope
you don’t get cheated by her. Riley is a good woman, if you…”
“Hendrix, don’t let me remind you the second time, it’s my business, and you don’t need to intervene.
And, dad wants you to learn management from me, so which department do you want to go to?”
Euan clearly did not want to discuss about the matter anymore and he digressed the topic of This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
conversation. “I’m not clear of the company’s department. But, the so called learning is just to get an
easy position for fun in the company. You could just allocate it for me, I trust you.” Hendrix giggled.
Euan looked up and glimpsed at his little brother whom he had not seen for five years and asked,
“Hendrix, you’ve studied two years of business management in New York, now you’re telling me to just
give you any job? Are you lying to me or lying to yourself?”
Hendrix replied in a playful way, “I was only having fun at school those two years and I’ve never paid
attention to studies.” Euan flipped one page of the newspapers and said, “Since you’ve never studied
well, I’ll find you a local school so you can finish university first. As for internship, we’ll see after the
school is settled.”
Hendrix frowned hard and he objected reluctantly, “You want me to continue study here? The reason I
quitted university in the States is because I really don’t want to study further.”
“Either go back to New York to finish university or get a university degree here, you choose.” Euan did
not sound like he wanted to discuss with him at all and Hendrix certainly did not dare to argue any
further. “Alright, I’ll continue my studies here.”
Being checkmated by his brother, Hendrix immediately became playful once again. “Big brother, dad
says you’re a member of the yacht club, and the club is difficult to join. Why don’t you lend me your
member identity? I want to have some fun.” Euan threw him a cold glimpse and said, “You only think of
having fun when you’ve just returned to the country? No way.” Alright, checkmate again.
Riley walked out of the kitchen. Seeing the two brothers chatting with each other, she could barely
maintain the smile on her face. “Don’t you have anything more to do today? Hendrix.” What she meant
was since he had already filled his stomach, he should leave now.
Hendrix took a newspaper to read. “I want to learn with big brother. Plus it’s raining heavily today, and
there’s not much fun outside. Could Riley possibly want to chase me out?” Riley gritted her teeth and
replied with a false smile, “Why would I.”
Just then, Euan’s monotonous phone ringtone rang. Riley and Hendrix both saw the name on the
screen almost at the same time and they kept quiet with tacit understanding.
“I’m busy.”
“Today?” Euan glimpsed at the time but Riley still felt his eyes were moving towards her slightly.
“Okay.” He hung up and closed the newspapers. “Hendrix, get back first. You can come another day.”
“Big brother…”
“Go back.”
“…alright.”
After chasing Hendrix back, Riley finally let down her kind-wife look and said with a false smile, “So you
want to go meet Lydia Saunders? Great, I can go to work too.”
Euan secretly complained that she was being so impatient that her tone of voice and attitude had
drastically changed in a split second. He grasped his coat tightly and only put it on after glancing at her
coldly for a few seconds. “I’m going to the hospital. She’s having a pregnancy checkup today.”
“Her? Oh…”
“So you have to come with me.”
Riley pointed at herself and asked, “Me?”
Euan replied with an imposing manner, “Any problem?”
Riley sneered. Who was she to say? After getting into the car, she sat at the front passenger’s seat and
the car drove straight towards the villa of the Saunders family. Euan did not intend to go in and he only
made a phone call to ask Lydia to come out. As Lydia was heading towards the front passenger’s seat,
she was surprised to see Riley sitting there, and there was an instant change in her expression. “Euan,
what’s going on? Why is she here?”
“She’s a doctor, and she can take better care of you.” He replied frigidly and domineeringly. Riley
glanced at her gloomy face blandly and said, “Miss Saunders, the pregnancy checkup procedure is
very complicated. Please hurry up and get into the car.”
An indifferent attitude again! Lydia pulled the car door open indignantly and got into the car. The front
passenger’s seat which was supposed to be hers was now taken by Riley and there was rage
simmering inside her that needed to be released! “Riley Watson, my child and I don’t need your care,
get out of the car!” Lydia had obviously made herself the woman-in-charge with that menacing attitude.
“I’m sorry Miss Saunders, it’s my mother-in-law who asked me to do it. She asked me to take care of
you and the child. If you want another person to do the job, I’m afraid you have to tell her yourself.”
Euan frowned and asked, “Mom said that?” Riley nodded a little. “Yes, mom called me via phone last
night.”
He actually pretended to be uninformed about that? Euan, your acting skill had worsened. Lydia quickly
straightened her back and said while staring at Euan’s back, “Euan, I’ve troubled your mother that she
cares for me and the baby so much. Mrs. George has made several phone calls to me these days, she
kept on asking the baby’s condition and even wanted me to go to the George’s house. Oh Mrs.
George…”
Euan ignored her and asked, “So you’ve agreed?” He was saying that to Riley. “Yes.” How could she
not agree? It was obvious she was bullied by his dear mother and his mistress. How could he not
notice that? Lydia was on cloud nine and her eyes were brimmed with joy.
“Then I shall thank Doctor Watson for your hard work, the baby’s and my safety are in your hands.”
Euan held the steering wheel and steered the car to the side. The hospital was right at the front. “Since
the task is handed to you, you should be responsible of it then.”
Riley clearly did not expect him to advocate their action too. “You really think so too?” With the last bit
of hope she had, she spoke with her voice trembled. It would be good if he could say anything that
showed some care, or maybe even just a few words…Euan stopped the car and he opened the car
door for Lydia the moment he got out of the car. Lydia held his arm in delight and sneered at her. And
she only heard his voice after a long time. “I do. Since Doctor Watson likes to rescue patients, how
could I not give you the chance?”
