Chapter 35 Doubt and Disdain
Back in Nirvana Residence, Christopher heard Cindy’s voice the minute he opened the door. “I heard
that our land’s worth at least nine million! From now on, we’ll really be known as successful! You have
to start dressing up a bit more and once you get the money, chase Christopher out of our family! I’ll find
you a much better man.”
“Christopher is pretty good, Mom.” Julianna knew that if Christopher wasn’t there, they wouldn’t even
have that piece of land anymore. All of that would have been gobbled up by Fabian.
“Good for nothing, you mean. He’s just a veteran with no qualification. What do you even want to keep
him around for? Your mom is right. Since he came back, you guys have to get a divorce.” Frank didn’t
like Christopher either. Even though Christopher may have done a number of good things, that still
couldn’t change how Frank’s impression of him.
Julianna was about to explain when she saw Christopher walk in with a stack of documents in his
hands. She quickly stood up and said, “Christopher, what’s that?”
“I heard that Centurion Corporation has a project and they were preparing to work with other
companies. We have some land in Dragon Valley, right? I registered a company and came up with a
proposal just to try our luck,” Christopher said with a smile.
“Wow, you know how to write up proposals?”
Julianna hadn’t expected Christopher’s answer. She took it from him and began to flip through it.
Pleasantly surprised, she said, “Dad, what did you mean that Christopher didn’t know anything? Look
at this proposal! It’s better than most larger companies.”
“That’s useless! You know what Centurion Corporation is, right? There’s no way they would even
glance at some small, newbie company! You can dream on!” Frank yelled as he shot up angrily. This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
Centurion Corporation would never collaborate with some small bare-bones company unless they were
blind.
“You think you’re so smart, huh? You’re such an embarrassment, proposal and all!” Cindy mocked.
“You can’t say that. This is still a good opportunity for Christopher. He still needs time to blend into
society again after retiring from the army,” Julianna said hurriedly.
Christopher scoffed. I’m the boss of Centurion Corporation. I bet they never expected that I will be the
one who decides who to work with!
Obviously, Christopher didn’t show his annoyance. He simply said quietly, “Mom, Dad, I’m just trying
this out. It’s just a form of training for me.”
“Whatever. Maybe this will teach you to give up on that useless attempt!”
Frank no longer bothered to object since it all seemed like a waste of time to him anyway.
Still, he continued mocking him. “I have to warn you though, money and power are the end-all and be-
all in this society. Someone with nothing but lint in their pockets like yourself would never get to
collaborate with anyone.”
Christopher shook his head. If they wanted to talk about power, he had a higher military rank than
everyone in the Jadeborough military. When it came to his career, even the mayor had to bow down to
him. In terms of money, well, Dennis was one of his subordinates.
Christopher was simply too lazy to talk back to Frank since the two of them were on different levels.
“I’ll go with you, Christopher,” Julianna said. She knew his effort would probably end in nothing, but she
wasn’t willing to rain on Christopher’s parade.
After all, that was the first thing that Christopher tried doing after retiring from the military.
“Don’t go with him. It’s bad enough that he’s embarrassing himself, but you’re my daughter! Let’s go
shopping instead,” Cindy said, tugging at Julianna’s sleeve.
Christopher didn’t want to see Julianna getting humiliated any longer and said, “It’s alright. I’ll be fine
alone.”
“Really? We’ll just wait for your good news. Maybe Centurion Corporation will be so touched that they’ll
make you the chairman!” Frank continued to say mockingly.
Christopher scoffed inwardly. I’m already the chairman, but thanks for the encouragement.
