"The weather's cold tonight. Dr. Robin, why don't you go home and get some
rest? I'll write the report."
"It's fine. You can go," Charmaine replied.
Zayn looked a little downcast as he nodded and left.
Not long after, the sound of the door opening echoed through the room. Charmaine looked up impatiently. "I told you, it's not necessary. Why are you back?"
Rex, slightly stunned by Charmaine's cold and impatient tone, blinked. "Boss, who pissed you off? You look furious."
Charmaine exhaled sharply. "It's nothing."
Rex looked around instinctively, confused, before stepping inside and closing the door.
"I was just in the area, finishing a deal. I thought I'd stop by and see how you're doing at work," he explained.
Charmaine, her focus still on writing the report, glanced at him briefly and responded, "It's after hours now."
"I know," he said quickly. "I just thought I'd stop by and pick you up from work."
Charmaine doubted his intentions.
She saw right through him. "You just want to come over to my place, don't you?" Rex blinked guiltily. "Of course not! I respect your wishes. I promise, I'm only here to give you a ride. I wouldn't step foot in your house without your permission!" "Fine, then."
During their brief exchange, Charmaine quickly finished the report, uploaded it, and shut down her computer.
"Let's go," she said, gathering her things.
"Huh? Wait for me!"
Rex, already regretting his earlier words, rushed to catch up, hoping to make it up to her later.
The parking lot at the hospital was packed and completely immobile, so Rex parked outside and told Charmaine to wait at the holistic medicine building while he moved the car.
Not long after Rex left, a car pulled up slowly in front of Charmaine.
She looked up in confusion, and through the lowered window, their eyes met.
Olympia, with all the grace and poise of a high-society woman, spoke, "Dr. Robin, we meet again. May I
have a word?"
Though she phrased it as a question, Olympia's gaze was cold and sharp, almost cruel.

Charmaine knew exactly why she was here and let a mocking smile tug at her lips.

That fool had promised to explain things to Leah, yet Leah had turned right around and complained to Olympia.
Tsk. Olympia truly loved her precious daughter. Only one afternoon had passed,
and here she was, making a big fuss and coming all the way over.
A perfect picture of a devoted mother and her obedient daughter.
Charmaine felt no emotional shift and immediately declined without hesitation, "I'm busy."
"What?"
Never had she imagined Robin would reject her outright. Olympia, who had spent the entire journey thinking of ways to deal with Robin, was now at a loss for words. Her eyes widened in shock, completely stunned by the situation.
Nearby patients and staff glanced over. Olympia instinctively leaned back, worried someone might recognize her.
She clenched her teeth, visibly seething with embarrassment. Olympia lowered her voice, her anger barely contained.
"So this is how you treat me? Robin, don't think you can get away with anything just because you have Basil's backing. This is Eragos, and my son is not someone you can just mess with!"
Mess with?
Charmaine caught the deeper meaning beneath and fixed her gaze on Olympia, now hidden behind the car, her anger written all over her face.noveldrama
Then she chuckled softly, her voice low, "So, this is what Leah told you."
Olympia raised her alarm with suspicion as she narrowed her eyes at Charmaine. "This has nothing to do with Leah. A woman like you, pretending to be aloof and proud, while secretly using your charms to seduce my son, and now trying to blame someone else?!"
Charmaine crossed her arms and sneered. "Don't worry, not everyone is as interested in your precious son and daughter as you think."
Olympia didn't believe her. She assumed Robin was just pretending to do something and acted completely different in the back.
Her disdain grew even stronger. "You don't need to play these games. I'll say it now: my daughter-in-law has to be a virtuous, well-mannered young woman from a respected family. Zayn will never marry someone who's an orphan, rude, and disrespectful. You might as well give up now!"
"Mom!"
Zayn had overheard the whole conversation. He was frustrated by Robin's coldness earlier that day and had stayed in the lounge a little longer.
What do you think?
