My Toyboy 42
Chapter 42
Recently, there was a stream of trending topics online about the real and fake heiresses of the Jones family. There were endless versions of the story being spread around.
Originally, only a few in the Jones family knew about Cynthia and Shirley. However, it was now common knowledge in Roncrity.
Shirley was the most upset with this secret being revealed. She had finally managed to be acknowledged as the rightful heiress, but now everyone knew she had grown up in a miserable family. Her adoptive mother, Rachel, was a murderer, and her adoptive father, Dennis, was a gambler.
Although most netizens treated her with sympathy and pity, that wasn’t what Shirley wanted. She was an heiress now, and those ordinary people didn’t have the right to sympathize with her.
It was even said that Justin and Selena were partial to Cynthia, the fake daughter they had raised for 20 years. Yet, their biological daughter, Shirley, had no status in the Jones family and lived a miserable life.
Therefore, almost all the upper class, celebrities, and media in Roncrity were invited to Shirley’s upcoming birthday party. Shirley wanted everyone to see that her position differed from Cynthia’s in the Jones family. Therefore, Cynthia had to be
there.
“Mom, I really want to celebrate my birthday with you and Cynthia.” Shirley held Selena’s arm and acted cute.
Selena looked at Cynthia. “The news online has impacted the Jones family and Shirley greatly. Why did you have to tarnish Shirley’s reputation for your own sake? Anyway, you’re already married, so you’re not affected. Have you ever thought about how much it will affect Shirley?”
‘Huh. That’s true. How could a rich and famous upperclassman marry someone like Shirley, who grew up in a lowly family like that, despite her being the true heiress? Mom must think I spread the news about Shirley and me online,’ thought Cynthia, who finally understood the situation.
Cynthia didn’t bother explaining and thought, ‘No matter what I say, Mom won’t believe me anyway. She’ll only think I’m trying to make bad excuses or lie.‘ She smiled sadly. “So?”
“You have to come to Shirley’s birthday party this time. I don’t care how much you two argue. You still have to act like good sisters then. It’s for her future and the Jones family’s reputation. Whether you like it or not, you owe Shirley and the Jones family this,” Selena demanded.
Hearing this, Cynthia was speechless.
Sensing the atmosphere growing tense, Justin tried to smooth things over. “Selena also wants you to be there. Her words may be harsh, but you know how soft–hearted she is. You haven’t celebrated your birthday with us for three years already. Let’s celebrate together this time.”
Cynthia smiled. “Okay, I’ll be there. I’ll do anything so long it makes Shirley happy.”
Justin patted Cynthia on the shoulder. “Thank you, my darling daughter.”
Shirley had a bad feeling when she saw the smile on Cynthia’s face. However, she didn’t believe Cynthia would make any trouble. After all, Selena was one of Cynthia’s weaknesses. As long as Selena stood by her side, she had an advantage over Cynthia. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
As soon as Shirley and Selena left, Jonathan came over. “Why are you sitting here alone in a daze?”
Cynthia looked up and instantly beamed when she saw Jonathan “It’s because I’m thinking of you.”

At first, Jonathan was filled with resentment. These days, he had held back from looking for Cynthia. Yet, she didn’t look for him either. She didn’t even leave him a message.
Recently, he had been staring at his phone all day, and everyone in the company thought he had gone mad. However, after he saw her face light up once she saw him, the resentment in his heart dissipated inexplicably.
Now, only sourness and helplessness remained. ‘Gah. I’m such a loser. Fine, I’ll let her win, thought Jonathan. His cold expression had softened, but he still sassed, “Hmph. You can say what you want, but you didn’t even come looking for me.”
“You’re such a busy man, Mr. Bennett. I’m afraid of disturbing you,” Cynthia deflected.
Jonathan knew Cynthia was making up excuses, but he didn’t have the heart to expose her. He knew well that if he hadn’t taken the initiative to look for her this time, their relationship would’ve ended. ‘She doesn’t even seem apologetic or try to placate me,‘ mumbled Jonathan mentally.
Cynthia handed Jonathan the menu. “Order whatever you like. As an apology, this meal will be my treat, Mr. Bennett.”
“If apologizing works, what do we need the police for?” asked Jonathan.
Cynthia side–eyed Jonathan with her charming eyes. “That’s enough.”
Jonathan sat down obediently.
Their first fight ended in his complete defeat.
Jonathan, who people revered and feared, finally understood something. ‘I can’t lose my temper or play hard to get with this ruthless woman. When the time comes, she’ll surely take advantage of me, and I won’t even have a place to cry, thought Jonathan in anguish.
While eating, he mentioned, “Recently, I investigated Mrs. Erwin and found something unexpected.”
Cynthia knew Jonathan was investigating Rachel to prove her innocence. “What?”
Jonathan took out his phone and showed Cynthia a video.
Cynthia was flabbergasted. “How did you get this video?” Cynthia knew Rachel didn’t intend to kill Dennis. She had been looking for concrete evidence recently to appeal, but Shirley didn’t want to testify, and accounts from the neighbors couldn’t place Shirley at the scene either.
The video Jonathan showed Cynthia now showed Shirley running out of the scene that night. The date and timestamp on the screen were exactly after Dennis’s death and before the police arrived.
This video was concrete evidence proving Shirley was there the night Dennis died.
Shirley must have seen Dennis use violence against Rachel, which could diminish Rachel’s charge of murder with intent and deem her actions as excessive self–defense.
Cynthia asked, “How did you get this video?”
“There is a school opposite Mrs. Erwin’s house built three years ago. The school was still under construction on the day of the incident, and its parking lot faced her home. I found a truck parked there with a dash cam, which happened to capture this scene,” explained Jonathan.
Cynthia was shocked. Although Jonathan made it sound simple, Cynthia knew how difficult it was to obtain credible evidence. Cynthia knew Shirley was there that day too but couldn’t find evidence of her presence. Hence, she couldn’t force Shirley to testify either.
“Thank you. You’ve really helped me a lot.” Cynthia sent the video to her phone. However, she didn’t want to discuss this further with Jonathan, so she changed the subject. “I owe you another favor. How can I ever repay you?”

Jonathan didn’t like Cynthia’s clear–cut attitude about favors. Frowning, he confessed, “But I like that you owe me a favor.”
Cynthia laughed it off, and she and Jonathan began to have dinner.
Shirley had returned after leaving earlier.
‘I won’t openly make things difficult for Cynthia when Mom and Dad are around, but since she exposed my relationship with Rachel, I’ll make sure she pays for her actions,‘ vowed Shirley internally.
When Shirley returned, she saw Cynthia eating with a man.
There was some steak sauce on the side of Cynthia’s lips. The man saw this and stood up to help her wipe it off but kissed her instead. Cynthia didn’t resist and only smiled.
Despite being positioned in a way that allowed her to see his back only, Shirley was certain his silhouette didn’t look like Filip’s. ‘Oh my god. Is Cynthia h
