Chapter 37
Chapter 37 God's Arrangement
Emily didn't know how to explain.
Mr. Satan liked her hair very much, winding it around his fingertips and then letting it go lazily. "Stay away from him a bit."
Emily nodded. "I'll keep my distance from him."
"Good." Mr. Satan's hand slowly slid down from her head, his fingertips gently caressing her dewy face. "I feel like I can't be away from you anymore." Emily felt ticklish by his touch and leaned away. "Do you know Jackson?"
"Uh, sort of," Mr. Satan's response was vague.
Which was true, given their shared circles in high society.
Emily reached out, also touching his cheek.
His white mask seemed to glow in the moonlight. Her hand slid along his jawline, wanting to remember its contours.
He caught her hand and kissed it lightly. "I didn't shave properly."
Emily chuckled, retracting her hand, and curled up in his embrace, resting her head on his shoulder, closing her eyes to rest.
"Mr. Satan."
"Yeah?"
"If I sue Sophia in court, do I have a chance of winning?"
Mr. Satan wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her closer. "What do you want to sue her for?"
Emily also wrapped her arm around his waist and rubbed her forehead against his chin. "When she went to see my dad, intentionally saying those things, it was clearly to upset him. When I confronted her about it, she even asked if my dad had died. That's attempted murder! Even if it wasn't successful, it's still intentional harm! She knew my dad had just had surgery not long ago and couldn't handle stress, yet she did it deliberately!"
Mr. Satan's voice remained calm but firm. "I understand how you feel, but Emily, whether it's murder or intentional harm, there has to be physical evidence of injury on your dad, either physical harm or poisoning. But he accidentally knocked over the hot water bottle himself. At most, Sophia failed to provide timely assistance, which can only be condemned morally. It's difficult to convict her legally."
Mr. Satan's explanation was as she expected.
Every hurtful word Sophia uttered was like a knife stabbing her father's heart, but she indeed hadn't physically harmed him.
Emily felt a bit disappointed. "Words really can kill."
"Yes, many have been driven to death by words. Sophia used her brain this time. I suspect someone guided her."
Speaking of which, Emily suddenly remembered something. "Could it be her mother who gave her the idea?"
"It's very likely," Mr. Satan said. "She's eager to marry into a wealthy family, so she must have done a lot of coaching for Sophia."
Emily gritted her teeth in silence. "It's despicable."
"Do you need my help?"
Emily shook her head. "I want to handle this myself first. If I'm really no match for Sophia and her mother, then you can come to my rescue, okay?"
Mr. Satan raised an eyebrow, clearly pleased by her request. "It's not easy, but it's good that you finally asked me for help."
Emily's hand slowly climbed up his shoulder but dared not look into his eyes. "I need to learn to protect my family on my own."
Mr. Satan held her hand against his chest, letting her feel his warmth and heartbeat.
"Emily, you're a good girl, and you deserve the best in this world."
Emily smiled. "Just being with you, I'm already content."
Mr. Satan's smile carried a deeper meaning. "Is that so?"
"Well," Emily nodded firmly, "I've come to terms with it. If the girl you like comes back to you, I'll bless you both. Mr. Satan, I'll always remember your kindness to me. If being with her makes you happy, I won't mind. I'm grateful that you've been there for me during the lowest point of my life."This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.
"Nonsense," Mr. Satan rolled over, and Emily found herself lying on top of him. Mr. Satan lowered his head and lightly kissed her lips. "If you say such things again, I'll have to punish you."
Emily wrapped her arms around his neck, allowing him to kiss her. "What kind of punishment?"
"Hmm, I can't bear any other punishment, so punish yourself by giving me more children," he teased.
With a turn, she was back on the mattress, sinking deep into it. He was above her, like a broad protective umbrella shielding her from all the darkness and storms. "Go to sleep," Mr. Satan said.
Emily's heart fluttered, thinking Mr. Satan wanted to continue.
His gaze softened by her clear, watery eyes, Mr. Satan bit her lip playfully. "Today, I'll give you a day off, but you'll have to make it up to me later."
Life was like this, with various disappointments coming one after another, and no one could escape them. Since you couldn't escape, just accept them with equanimity.
Emily thought, regardless of adversity or prosperity, as long as you've tried your best, you won't regret it.
Every day, she continued to accompany her father to the hospital, returned in the afternoon to cook a sumptuous dinner for Mr. Satan, and then shared a sweet and exciting night with him.
Olivia asked, "Are you really that generous? If the girl he likes comes back, will you really let go like that?"
Emily stirred the lemon slice in her glass with a straw, looking down. "What else can I do? Should I cry and beg him not to leave me? You know me, I'll endure, but I'll never let myself lose my dignity."
Olivia shrugged. "If you ask me, you'd better find out who Mr. Satan really is as soon as possible. Knowing it will give you peace of mind. Even if one day he says he wants to leave, at least you'll know if he's doing well afterward. It's better than wearing a mask all this time and not knowing who he really is when it's time to part ways, right?"
"Knowing or not knowing who he is doesn't matter much to me now," Emily smiled. "Let's just make the most of each day. The future, who we'll walk with, it's all uncertain. Who can predict it?"
Just like her past four years, a stagnant marriage, who could have guessed that she would break away from Nathan and end up lying next to Mr. Satan?
God will make good arrangements.
"Hey, Emily!" Olivia suddenly exclaimed, tapping her excitedly. "I found the hospital's surveillance footage!"
