Chapter 412
Chapter 412:
The softness in her words and the sincerity in her gaze were a force Henrik couldn’t resist, even with all his defenses.
For a moment, he was silent. Then, in a voice barely above a murmur, he said, “I promise.”
“Good boy.” Khloe smiled, pressing a tender kiss to his forehead, then added playfully, “But you’d better keep that promise. I’ll be watching, and if you slip up, you won’t like me upset.”
After agreeing with Henrik, Khloe handed him the scar-removing ointment she had prepared. “Here’s the gift I promised you this morning.” The ointment had a mild scent, a clear sign she’d crafted it herself. Henrik paused, then grabbed her arm as she stood to leave.
“Where are you going? We agreed to have dinner together.”
Khloe spun, removed Henrik’s hand from her, and jabbed her finger against his forehead playfully. “Absolutely not! This is your punishment. You promised to wait for me, and since you didn’t follow through, you’ve got to face the consequences. I won’t be joining you for dinner tonight.”
With a playful smile, Khloe quickly returned to her room, leaving Henrik in the living room.
He stared at her retreating figure, melting into peals of pure laughter. Then he looked at the ointment in his hand, amused and affectionate. Khloe always found a way to surprise him.
Meanwhile, Alan, who had been secretly watching the scene unfold, felt a wave of fear as he saw Henrik laugh. Panicking, he pulled Fiona aside. “Fiona! If I kneel and beg for forgiveness, do you think it would work? The last time I saw him laugh like this, he killed the leader of the biggest crime organization—along with his entire family! Am I doomed?”
Fiona gave Alan a shove, her voice thick with emotion as she snapped, “Nonsense! Mr. Watson is genuinely happy! Finally, he’s found someone who actually cares about him. His mother can rest in peace now!”
Meanwhile, the airport was fully locked down, with armed guards forming a tight perimeter, instructed not to let anyone through. At the air bridge entrance stood Conroy Dayton, the mayor. Who could be important enough to make the mayor wait personally?
With a concerned expression, Conroy Dayton inquired of his secretary, “Has Mr. Smith not arrived yet? Are you certain of the information you’ve received? He is key to my strategy. If he doesn’t show, Henrik’s man is sure to enter Congress!”

Conroy’s secretary, wiping sweat from his brow, eyed the yet-to-arrive plane, replying, “Mr. Dayton, I’ll reconfirm right away. Our contacts in Ouiswell assured us that Mr. Smith would be arriving.”
At that moment, the aircraft’s engines roared as it landed smoothly on the runway. Descending from the plane was an elderly man with blue eyes and blond hair, supported by a cane and accompanied by several younger assistants.
Conroy stepped forward respectfully. “Mr. Smith, welcome to Zhecrora! I’m Conroy Dayton, the Mayor.”
Conroy extended his hand, but Richard, the elderly man, did not reciprocate. Instead, he demanded urgently, “Is there truth to the rumors of Magician’s appearance in your city? How can you prove it? Be aware, if you’re deceiving me, I will report this to Ouiswell’s President and halt your city’s medical exports!”
“I wouldn’t dare. Your reputation holds immense weight among all who practice medicine in Ouiswell!” Conroy spoke with a flattering smile, making it clear through his gentle tone that he sincerely meant every word offered to Richard Smith.
Upon receiving Conroy’s repeated assurances, Richard’s expression softened slightly as he questioned, “When might I meet Magician? And how did you come by information about him?”
“The truth is, we’re not sure where Magician currently is.” Conroy paused for a moment. Before Richard could get angry, he added, “But, I assure you, you will be able to meet with Magician’s student! She is closely associated with me, and through her, we hope to locate Magician.”
Richard remained calm upon learning this. Magician’s whereabouts had been shrouded in mystery for the last three years.
As a highly esteemed doctor in Ouiswell, Richard had extensive networks among the influential, yet none could lead him to Magician. Should Conroy succeed in this, it would indeed be a noteworthy feat.
