Chapter 437
Chapter 437:
The moment Khloe spoke, an icy wave seemed to sweep through the room, sending shivers down everyone’s spine.
Conroy’s status as the Mayor was well-known, and his presence commanded authority. Yet here was Khloe, brazenly challenging and embarrassing him in front of everyone.
His face flushed with fury as he fixed Khloe with a fiery glare. “How dare you accuse me of such baseless nonsense? I’m the Mayor, responsible for ensuring order at this event, and here you are spreading wild accusations! Such insolence!”
His thunderous voice cut through the chaos, instantly silencing the bustling crowd. All eyes turned to Conroy, their expressions a blend of fear and unease, each person wary of being dragged into the unfolding drama.
While the rest of the crowd cowered under Conroy’s imposing presence, Khloe stood her ground, completely unshaken. “Mr. Dayton, you pride yourself on justice and fairness, don’t you? Shouldn’t you take the time to understand the full story before jumping to conclusions? Accusing me of entering the competition through favoritism without a shred of evidence—don’t you think that’s utterly ridiculous?”
Conroy looked taken aback, momentarily lost for words.
“And you accuse me of being the one causing chaos here? You couldn’t be more mistaken. The real troublemaker is her!” Khloe pointed at the woman who had attacked her earlier. “She’s the one who crossed the line—publicly defaming and insulting my colleague, even going so far as to try and have her removed! The surveillance cameras in this hall captured every moment; the proof is irrefutable. And yet, here you are, defending someone guilty of slander and personal attacks. Is this your idea of fairness as the Mayor? Or do you stand for victim-blaming, where the harmed are always painted as the guilty ones for daring to push back?”noveldrama
Khloe’s voice rang out, commanding the attention of everyone present. She wasn’t just addressing Conroy; she was boldly questioning his authority in front of the entire hall.
Conroy’s expression darkened further, his face taking on a livid hue as veins visibly pulsed on his temple. His lips quivered, as if struggling to form a rebuttal, yet no words came. Khloe’s argument left him without an escape. Watching the scene, Sloane felt an uneasy knot form in her stomach. She knew she couldn’t allow Khloe to seize control of the narrative.
She quickly stepped forward, her expression a mix of vulnerability and determination. In a disapproving tone, she addressed Khloe. “Khloe, that’s enough! Apologize to the Mayor already! I know how you are—always jumping to defend the people close to you…”
“You, even when it’s unnecessary. But think about it—there must be a reason why this lady wanted your colleague removed. No one picks a fight with a stranger for no reason, especially at an event as important as this!”

Realizing how far things had spiraled, the woman who had confronted Charlotte quickly tried to salvage the situation. Turning to Conroy, she said, “Mr. Dayton, I’m Jessi Hammond, the pharmaceutical manager at Oceansky Biomedical Company. I wasn’t trying to stir up trouble; this is about Charlotte Branson. Back in our school days, she was a notorious bully and even a thief, driving my close friend to transfer schools. I was so furious that I asked security to have her removed. And then Khloe slapped me, and that’s how this whole commotion started. I swear, I never intended for things to blow up like this.”
As Jessi’s words sunk in, the crowd seemed to piece everything together, their expressions hardening as disdainful glances were thrown in Khloe and Charlotte’s direction.
Sloane’s sharp eyes swept across the room, eventually narrowing on Charlotte, who stood behind Khloe. “Charlotte, did you hear that? Are you manipulating my sister now? This mess is all because of you, yet my sister is the one bearing the brunt while you hide behind her. Quite the cunning little plan, isn’t it?”
Charlotte froze, visibly shaken by Sloane’s accusations. Her hands trembled, and her wide, panicked eyes darted around as she stammered, “It wasn’t me. I didn’t…”
Khloe’s gaze grew steely, her eyes sharp and glinting with unspoken fury as she watched Sloane corner Charlotte in an attempt to drag her down.
Sloane had crossed the line, and she was about to face the consequences. “That’s enough!” Khloe exclaimed, stepping forward with swift determination and landing a hard slap across Sloane’s face.
