Please Come Back, Honey! Chapter 147

Joseph came into the office whistling that morning. Because Crystal had hired him to be the manager of the Film and Television Department, he was more or less a senior executive in Crystalite Entertainment.

Sometime earlier, Trevor had blocklisted him and his team, nearly forcing him to make a career change.

Later, Crystal came to him and said she was starting her own company and wanted to work with him. He took up her offer without another word. It didn’t matter if Crystal had the competence to manage a company; her father was wealthy anyway.

Crystal was Thomas’ only child, and he would definitely throw tons of cash into her company. By then, Joseph could bag good bonuses without making any real effort.

Voilà, he heard Thomas bought this opulent floor for his precious daughter. But not long after he sat in his office, Crystal’s assistant came to him, saying Crystal was lashing out in her office for some reason and that he should check it out.

A sense of foreboding immediately surged within Joseph. This doesn’t have anything to do with the script we gave Wilson, does it?

Could one blame Joseph for having premonitions like this? He was constantly conscience-stricken when he knew he had obviously done the wrong.

Thus, he rushed to Crystal’s office only to be rendered pale-faced after hearing Wilson’s words from Crystal.

Denunciation within the industry was no small issue. Hence, he instantly suggested, “We’ll just go and apologize to Emma then.”

“No way!” Crystal shrieked. “I will not apologize to Emma! Ever!”

“Do you have another option?” Joseph felt utterly troubled. “Or do you want to be denounced?”

Crystal said nothing in response, clamping down on her teeth.

“What, do you actually have some sort of blood feud with Emma? You just have to say sorry. What’s the big deal? It’s not like you’ll really lose something substantial.” Joseph couldn’t understand her. But how could he when he didn’t know arguments between women could get super minute and incongruous?

“She’s Trevor’s ex-wife,” Crystal explained irritably. “I’ve loathed her since she slept with Trevor four years ago after I broke up with him! If she hadn’t shown up out of nowhere, Trevor and I would’ve long gotten married!”

Joseph’s jaw dropped at the revelation. Emma was Trevor’s wife?! Why did he have a feeling Crystal had screwed him?

If he had known Emma was Trevor’s ex-wife, he wouldn’t have gone with Crystal’s plan and had the assistant director harass Emma.

He was a man as well. So he understood a man’s inexplicable possessiveness toward his woman, even if she was no longer his. No wonder Trevor would help Emma and even went as far as to blocklist him and the assistant director.

It was also then that he finally understood why Crystal refused to apologize to Emma. But then, after some thought, he still tried to persuade her. “No matter what grudges you have with Emma, things

aren’t looking up for us at all. We can’t afford to butt heads. You’ve just established Crystalite. Won’t it be worse if we’re denounced and can’t get even one production under our name? Compromising now won’t mean you’ll compromise forever. We’ll apologize first, then figure something out after we’ve gone over this hurdle.”

Who does Crystal think she’s kidding? If she and Crystalite are f*cked just like this, I’ll be out of work again soon!

“Let me think about it.” It was all Crystal could say for now. At that, Joseph also had no choice but to leave her office for now.

Meanwhile, Emma was on a flight back to Jonestown with Trevor.

Like any other time, the two traveled practically in silence. Trevor had arranged for Cyrus to pick them up at the airport, but a black sedan slowly pulled over in front of them when he and Emma pulled their suitcases to the parking lot.

The window rolled down to reveal Jared sitting inside.

To Emma, Jared, her ex-father-in-law, was practically a stranger, for as far as she could remember, she had only ever seen the man three times, and they were all during the Bateson’s Christmas family dinner.

Jared lived abroad, but he still cared about his family enough to visit every Christmas. However, he would already be gone by the following day.

With three short dinners, it was only natural Emma barely had the chance to interact with Jared.

Moreover, she could tell her ex-father-in-law, like Alice, didn’t like her as well.

It had always been a fact that the only Bateson who was gentle to her was Christopher.

At present, Emma naturally felt awkward about seeing Jared again as, after all, Trevor and she had already divorced.

Trevor, on the other hand, was unfazed upon seeing his father, for it was a no-brainer why the old man, who practically never returned to Jonestown, would suddenly appear—Arianna.

Though Jared was pretty much heartless, Arianna was still his birth daughter. Also, if Arianna really ended up locked behind bars, the Bateson Family’s reputation would be affected too. So, it was obvious Jared had returned for this.

At that, Trevor turned to Emma, who was standing beside him. “Have Cyrus send you home.”

Emma nodded in acknowledgment, but just as she turned, Jared spoke up. “Since we’ve all bumped into each other, Emma, come with us.”

“No need,” Trevor rejected on Emma’s behalf before she even said anything.

Following that, Trevor shoved his suitcase into the trunk and got into the car.

Meanwhile, Emma heaved a sigh of relief and hurriedly made her way to Cyrus, who was waiting in the parking lot.

“Well, you’re protective of her? What’s wrong with sitting in the same car as us? You think I’ll swallow her up?” Jared commented plainly as soon as Trevor entered the car.

“We’re not close to her,” Trevor answered indifferently.

Jared definitely hadn’t appeared at this time because his flight coincidentally landed at the same time as theirs, but that he had checked their flight schedule beforehand. He deliberately waited so that he

could see Emma and coerce her in the meantime. After all, Emma was the one who wanted to press charges against Arianna.

Trevor’s words made Jared sneer with anger. “Yes, she’s not close with me, but you too? If you two are distant, as you said, why have you two gone on a business trip together then?”

“Just because we were on a business trip together doesn’t mean we’re close. It’s strictly business,” Trevor retorted expressionlessly.

Jared was rendered at a loss for words. Since when had his son learned and mastered lying through his teeth?!

Arianna had already ranted on the phone to him, saying Trevor had fallen in love with Emma, but now his son was telling him he and Emma weren’t close?!

Jared was so irritated that he was speechless for a long time, and just like that, the father and son looked out of the window, neither talking to the other.

In the past, Jared had barely ever spent any time with his children, and now that he was living abroad, his bond with Trevor became even more non-existent. The father and son were practically strangers.

Trevor would still feel a sliver of bond with his mother, Alice, every now and then. However, his father was just someone he was biologically linked to. He truly felt nothing for the man he had to call father.

Hence, Trevor abhorred from the bottom of his heart when Jared was now here, trying to have a say in Arianna’s issue.

No way would he allow his father to meddle in anything! This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

Now, be it their family or their family business, they were all under his control. So if Jared really wanted to do something, he would have to depend on Thomas. But of course, given that Thomas could do

something.
