Chapter 181
Chapter 181
"Emma..." Trevor whispered her name. "Can't you really give me another chance?"
"It's getting late. Go to sleep." Emma didn't respond to his words at all. After saying this, she got up and planned to leave.
Trevor slumped back and threw himself against the couch.
I've failed again.
However, he got up and stopped her. "It's not safe for you to go back alone so late. I'll ask the driver to come over and take you home."
While waiting for the driver to arrive, Trevor asked Emma again, "Why do you trust Wilson so much? Are you not afraid that he'll plot against you?"
Trevor had always been unhappy about Wilson recognizing Emma as his adopted daughter.
He didn't understand why Wilson had made such a decision. How could he just recognize her as his daughter after meeting not too long ago?
This was inexplicable to a vigilant person like Trevor.
It was not that the explanation was incomprehensible; in fact, he had a reasonable explanation in his mind. He felt that Wilson had a plan for Emma, and this theory made Trevor even more anxious.
Regarding Trevor's words that Wilson was plotting against her, Emma asked in return, "What does he have in mind for me?"
Trevor said without hesitation, "Well, you're young and beautiful."
Emma was annoyed. "Trevor, why do you have such lewd thoughts?"
Trevor huffed. "I'm not being lewd. An old man like Wilson probably covets a young and beautiful girl like you."
The man viewed Wilson as a bad person from the bottom of his heart and did not expect the consequences of his rash speculation.
Emma followed his words and smiled lightly. "Are you saying that when you become old, you'll also covet young and beautiful girls?"
Trevor was speechless.
He couldn't answer this. When did she become so eloquent to the point that she's forcibly making me speechless?
However, he hurriedly explained himself, "People are different. I'm pretty sure when I'm old—"
He wanted to say that she would still be the only one in his heart when he was old, but she interrupted him before he could finish his words, saying, "You are indeed different from them; you have no heart at
all."
Trevor was furious.
He did not have a heart back then, but his heart was filled with her right now. Couldn't she feel it?
Before he could say anything else, his driver had arrived. Emma told Trevor to have a good rest and turned around to leave.
After running around for most of the night, Emma was also tired, so she rested after going home to shower.
Early the next morning, she went to the Bateson Group for a meeting. Susanna also attended the meeting, as well as Quincy and the actress she recommended for the second female role, Artemis.
The actress was Johanna. She looked very eccentric, but after Emma watched Johanna's audition video that Wesley shared with her, she realized that when Johanna dressed up as Artemis, who was pitiful on the surface but insidious on the inside, the woman immediately became the character perfectly. Such a huge contrast was the best proof of an actor's acting skills, so Emma had no objection to Johanna playing Artemis. Crystal tried to play this role before, but after the audition, Wesley cut her off.
Crystal might've been a decent choice had they not compared her to Johanna, but after this comparison, it was obvious that Johanna was a far better choice.
Trevor also attended the meeting. Some of the staff who attended the meeting asked about the injury on Trevor's hand worriedly. Trevor glanced at Emma, who was whispering to Susanna, and replied
lightly, "I was scratched by a cat."
The other person laughed and joked, "It can't be a woman, can it?"
Men always called women who were not easy to tame as little wild cats, so it was no wonder that the other party misunderstood Trevor's meaning.
Trevor glanced at Emma faintly again. "No."
It would've been fine if she had scratched her, but it was a pity that she didn't scratch him and ignored him instead.
Susanna also heard Trevor's words, so she leaned toward Emma and asked in a low voice, "He wasn't scratched by your cat, was he?"
Emma said very tiredly, "Yes, he was. I went to the hospital in the middle of the night with him yesterday because Minnie hadn't had her rabies vaccine yet."
Susanna immediately covered her mouth and laughed. "Look at how bad his personality is. Even cats don't like him."
Susanna's complaints about Trevor had always been very candid. Now that she was also laughing loudly, Emma hurriedly motioned her to restrain herself.
"I've been taking care of Minnie for you these past few days, but it didn't scratch me at all. Doesn't this prove that his character is too terrible?" Susanna continued to gloat at Trevor's misfortune.
Emma said, "Who knows what's going on with him? He wanted to see Minnie at night."
Susanna clicked her tongue. "He's not crazy; he's got lovesickness. Although he said he wanted to see the cat, he wanted to see you."
Emma got goosebumps all over after hearing Susanna's words. Lovesickness? This sort of thing has nothing to do with Trevor.
As the two were gossiping about their big boss, the two of them kept their voices low and got very close.
Trevor, who was sitting in the main seat, saw that Susanna's face was so close that it was about to be stuck on Emma's, and he couldn't stand it any longer. Content rights by NôvelDr//ama.Org.
Even if they were both women and had a good relationship, they didn't need to be so close, right?
Trevor turned his head and glanced at Cerys who was sitting next to him. Cerys immediately understood and called out, "Good morning, everyone. Let's start the meeting."
When they heard Cerys say this, Susanna and Emma finally distance themselves from each other, and only then did Trevor's complexion improve.
The meeting lasted for about an hour. After the meeting, Susanna took Emma's arm and walked out with her, saying as she walked, "You can sit in my car later. Let's go and see your house in Sky Bay. How about that?"
Sky Bay was the name of the area where Susanna's house was located. Emma told Susanna that Wilson and Nina had given her a house there, but she didn't really want to move in and felt that it was not suitable. However, Susanna thought nothing about it. Since she had nothing to do today, she took Emma to check out the house together.
When Trevor, who was walking in front of them, heard Susanna's words, he immediately stopped and looked back at Emma and asked with a frown, "Do you have a house in Sky Bay?"
Before Emma could say anything, Susanna answered first, "Don't you know, Mr. Bateson? Mr. Young and his wife gave Emma a house, which is in Sky Bay."
Trevor's expression suddenly changed, and he asked incredulously, "Wilson gave you a house? You dare to accept it?"
Originally, Trevor had been uneasy about Wilson accepting Emma as his daughter, so when he heard that the man had given Emma an expensive house in Sky Bay, he was immediately convinced that Wilson was up to no good.
Emma couldn't explain to Trevor her inexplicable trust and closeness to Wilson. Moreover, when she had dinner with the Young Family that night, she could clearly feel the enthusiasm and kindness of the Young Family toward her.
If Wilson had bad intentions toward her as Trevor claimed, why would he bring her to his family so openly like that?
Emma got goosebumps all over after hearing Susanna's words. Lovesickness? This sort of thing has nothing to do with Trevor.
