MOOD
Layla’s eyes fluttered open and she felt the presence of someone in her room. She slowly sat up from the hospital bed, only to see Nolan standing there, with a relieved look on his face.
Her heart immediately began to race as she wondered what he was doing to her, she still didn’t forget that he had put her in the situation she was in.
“Layla, how are you doing?” He asked in a low tone. He had never felt pressured by anyone in his life before but here he was feeling pressured.
“Like you care..” Layla muttered but he heard her well enough.
Nolan wasn’t expecting Layla to be nice to him or even talk to him after what he’d done.
He did not deserve to stand before her. Over the few days when she was unconscious, he realized his mistake and discovered that he had treated her too badly. He never considered her feelings.
“Layla, I think we should talk..” he said, stepping close to her.
“About what?” Layla asked in a very low voice. She was not in the mood to see or talk to him.
“About how you almost killed me right? And for what reason because I danced with a man. Regan is my best friend Nolan…” she drew out. He just didn’t get that and kept pointing fingers at her.
“Regan was only a friend Nolan. But you just wouldn’t listen and just came up with the conclusion that I was having an affair when I was not!” She felt like walking up to him and slapping that perfect face of his.
“Even if I was having an affair, I feel that you didn’t have the right to have a say in it..”
“I mean you say you don’t want me, you say I’m bad luck that I was not meant to be in your life. You say that you don’t care about me. You set out rules for me, you punish me for unnecessary reasons. You made me think so lowly of myself Nolan. Like I was not worth you..” her voice trailed off. She was in despair.
“Look Nolan, the truth is that after what you did to me, I was tempted to jump off a high building but only one thing kept me going!” She yelled as she couldn’t control her anger.
“We’re mates. You feel all of my emotions then you should be able to feel my pains also mad know how much I’m hurting inside of me..” a sob slipped her lips and Nolan stood unmoving, as he was confused about what to do.
“You should be the one person I can run to when I’m down, you should be my pillar of support but you were my worst nightmare…” she stated pointing her index finger at him accusingly.
“I’m sure you already know about my pregnancy, Nolan. You know what you can think whatever you want to think. You can even take out your anger on me for keeping the truth, that’s what you’ve always been doing from the start! Taking out your anger on me”
“And I’m sure you’re only starting to be nice because I’m carrying your hair. You must be scared to touch me now because I know and I’m certain that you wouldn’t care enough about me to be here” she stated. When she first woke up she was surprised to see him waiting on her, it was so unlike Nolan.
“Layla, that’s not the case I…”
“Let me ask you a question Nolan…” she interrupted.
“Who are you worried about here? Me or the baby?” She asked as she was certain he was only with her because of the child.
“Layla I..” Nolan was about to give his reply when the door opened and Karen walked in.
“Sorry if I’m interrupting..” she apologized seeing they were conversing.
“No it’s nothing..” Layla waved her off as Karen approached her.
“I can see you’re doing better..” she observed as they both smiled.
“You should really take care of yourself Layla…” she advised and Layla shook her head.
“I will…” she assured.
“Well..” Karen began.
“I wanted to ask a question, Layla, I don’t know if that’s okay with you?” she asked.Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
“I’m okay..”
“Um, by any chance are you suffering from any form of abuse? You see while you were being treated we discovered some marks on your body and…”
“I fell down from the stairs..” Layla chimed in as she spoke curtly.
“Huh?” Karen’s brows narrowed as Nolan looked shocked also. He was shocked that Layla actually lied about what really happened.
“I slipped and fell from the stairs and lost consciousness, that’s how I ended up here..” she repeated.
What Nolan did was considered as home abuse and he could get into trouble for it if she ever decided to report it.
But she was not that kind of person, what kind of human would she be?
The kind who sent the father of her child to prison?
Nolan was a powerful man, she wasn’t ready to ruin his reputation.
“Okay if you say so..” Karen replied.
“When can I get discharged?” Layla asked as the hospital room was suffocating her, she wanted to be out.
“Soon. Probably the day after tomorrow, you can get discharged.” Karen informed.
“Thanks, Karen..” she appreciated and Karen patted her cheeks softly.
“Okay, I’ll leave the two of you. Have a nice day..” she said before making her way out.
“Layla..” Nolan called after Karen had left.
“I’m tired. I want to sleep..” Layla yawned lying back down on the bed.
“Please lock the door on your way out..” she added, shutting her eyes closed. Nolan could tell that she was not in the mood to speak with him, so he left her alone to have some time to herself.
