Chapter 31
The melodic volce fell like music in Scott’s ears, the familiar tone etched with a hint of deep tenderness.
Everyone stopped fawning over Scott and immediately turned toward the direction of the voice.
Olivia was standing a few feet behind Scott, right in the middle of a patch of sunlight. The sunlight bathed her in a warm glow that illuminated her beautiful face, which at this moment was staring at Scott with a joyful look. Her lips were turned up in a warm smile.
Everyone stared for a moment at Olivia, then finally turned to gaze at Scott.
Scott was just as happy to see her. He smiled and replied, “Hello, Olivia.”
Olivia grinned.
Irene glanced first at Olivia, then at Scott, and finally said with a knowing smile playing on her lips, You two must have a lot to catch up on. We’ll get out of your hair for now.”
All the other women immediately understood what Irene was trying to do and quickly leaped to her aid. “Irene’s right; you youngsters must have plenty to talk about!”
“Let’s all go inside. We’ve been pestering Scott long enough!”
“Let’s go in and see if we can join in a nice game of poker.”
“That’s a great idea!”
It took only a few minutes for Irene and her posse to clear out, leaving the entire backyard empty except for Scott and Olivia. However, Irene and the rest of the party guests keep peering at the two
from behind the curtains.
Olivia turned to gaze at Scott. This was the man who turned her down when she confessed her feelings three years ago, and since then, she left the country.
Until now.
This time, she would not allow him to slip away again.
Olivia sauntered toward Scott, every stride full of elegance and confidence.
“Do you want to catch up?” she asked, smiling at him as though the past three years never happened. -as though things did not change.
Scott gazed back at her with an unreadable expression. “Okay.”
The two of them stepped aside, heading toward a quieter corner of the garden. Irene grinned as she watched this.
“If only you could see yourself right now! You’re grinning from ear to ear, Irene! You must’ve been waiting for this day for a long time, huh?” someone nudged her teasingly.
Irene did not feel the need to hide her feelings anymore. “Yes, I’ve been looking forward to this for ages.”
“Well, as long as you’re happy.”
“What do you mean?”
“Come on! Scott’s ex–wife was a perfectly pleasant young lady. I don’t understand why you’re so keen on Scott and Olivia getting together when he had a perfectly good wife.”
Irene frowned at this. “Let’s not talk about her anymore.
The woman glanced at the couple standing in the garden and said wistfully, “We’ll see.
Meanwhile, Olivia and Scott stepped out of the back gate and headed away from the party.
“I hear that you’ve been thinking of expanding your business back here,” Olivia was the first to break
the silence.
Scott did not respond initially and instead continued trudging steadily along the path.
It was mid–April, and all the flowers were in full bloom. The pleasant fragrance of spring flowers tickled their nostrils with every step they took. C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
“Yes,” he finally replied.
“Why?” Olivia felt her heart skip a beat as she gazed at Scott’s dark, penetrating eyes. Although he aged a bit over the past three years, he was still just as handsome as she remembered.
She never forgot him, not even for a day..
“This is where my roots are.”

Olivia raised her brows questioningly. “That doesn’t seem like something you’d say. Since when have you ever mentioned wanting to go back to your roots?”
Scott ignored her question and instead turned to glance at her. “Why did you return?”
Olivia placed her hand behind her back and smiled. “Just like you. I wanted to come back to my roots
-where my heart belongs.
Their gazes met, and Olivia continued to gaze at him openly.
Scott, realizing immediately what she meant, peeled his eyes away from her and replied, “Well, your parents are probably happy you’re back.”
“Of course they are. Your parents were probably thrilled to have you back too. I’m sure they must wish you were home more often.”
Lunchtime rolled around, and everybody had such a splendid time at the catered luncheon that most of them lingered around, chit–chatting and playing poker after their meal.
Scott, Olivia, and Irene were seated at the same table. After finishing his meal, Scott glanced at the
time and decided it was time to leave. Before that, he wanted to bid farewell to the man of the hour himself. Irene and Olivia followed.
Irene was extremely satisfied with how the day turned out. Since she accomplished what she wanted, she no longer needed to waste any more time at the party.
All of a sudden, her phone rang. Irene stepped aside to take the call. Her brows furrowed as she listened to the person on the other end of the line. Finally, she said rather loudly, “What? She’s
hurt? At where? Azalea Hills? Where’s that?”
Everyone turned to gaze at her, but Irene did not seem to notice this and instead continued, “What happened? What is she doing there anyway?”

Scott stared at his mother with a puzzled look.
“Alright, thanks. Don’t worry, I’ll pass this on to Scott.” With that, Irene hung up the phone, Olivia walked over to her and held her hand reassuringly. “Did something bad happen, Mrs. Lawson?”
Irene looked rather worried. “It’s Sasha.”
She strode over to Scott and said, “I just received a call from the police at Horizon City. They say that Sasha suffered some injuries from a fire and just came out of surgery. She’s still unconscious. If I recall, you have a branch of the company in Horizon City, right? Why don’t you call your employees and send someone to check on her?”
“Was that Uncle Samuel?”
“Yes.”
“Okay. I’ll take care of this.”
With that, Scott took out his phone, dialed a number, and strode out of the room, leaving Olivia behind, staring at himin slight bewilderment.
Horizon City?
She narrowed her eyes.
