Reckless Marriage Unyielding Love

Chapter 106

Chapter 106

After eating, as Carlos wiped the food stain off Mikayla’s lips, he asked softly, “There is a charity auction tonight at Eastray Corporation. Would you like to go with me?”

Eastray Corporation would hold several large–scale charity auctions yearly supported by many upper–class people. The money from the auctions was donated to help the poor.

Mikayla looked at Carlos, wondering, ‘He isn’t the type to attend such auctions, so…‘

“Kashton’s father entrusted me to bid an antique for him! Plus, I saw a necklace that would go great with your wedding dress. You can wear it on our wedding day.” Carlos raised his eyebrows and smiled meaningfully.

Mikayla was speechless. Sometimes, when Carlos talked, he sounded serious, but it always felt like he was insinuating something else. Moreover, recently, Carlos would mention their wedding every time they met, making her think he was desperate to be married to her… “But I don’t have anything suitable to wear for the auction,” Mikayla answered. To ensure her ankle healed properly, she avoided high heels and was wearing her everyday business suit now. The lady’s dress code for an upscale auction was a gown with high–heeled shoes because, after the auction, the attendees would be interviewed by reporters. It served as an excellent platform for upper–class society people to get their five–minute fame. ‘Even if I can wear an evening gown, high heels are a no–go. Will it affect Carlos if I accompany him looking dressed down?‘ Mikayla wondered nervously.

“If you dress up more beautifully, I’m afraid that I would be fighting off admirers trying to seduce you away from me before I can even get you down the aisle!” Carlos lamented. Sometimes men were vain creatures, hoping their female companions were beautiful enough to boost their image. But Carlos wasn’t one of them. It was more vital for him that Mikayla recuperated as their wedding day

was fast approaching. ‘I’ll go crazy if I have to postpone our wedding date yet again!‘ he grouched inwardly.

Suddenly, Mikayla recalled the company’s recent heated discussions revolving around Carlos. ‘I didn’t realize older men were becoming the fad again, she mused inwardly before mocking loudly, “Says the person who had become the center of attention among the female employees in our company! Did any young girls throw themselves at you?”

Carlos chuckled when he heard Mikayla. “Actually, there was one!” Carlos teased, pretending to recall someone, but seeing Mikayla’s furious expression made him uneasy. So, he conceded, “Don’t worry, alright? My heart is full of you that there is no space for anyone else!” After saying that, Carlos looked at Mikayla meaningfully, making Mikayla feel awkward.

‘Carlos, you made my heart turn toward you, and since then, my life has deviated from its original trajectory! I don’t know if it’s because I fall in love too easily or if your grand gestures won me over… All I know is I never thought I would fall in love with someone so soon after leaving Jaxon. I originally responded to you because I got triggered by Jaxon’s cheating! When I met you, I had this whole plan worked out, but life is unpredictable! Plus, I like what we have right now,‘ Mikayla mused.

Not long after that, Carlos kissed Mikayla on the cheek and left carrying the lunch boxes he brought. NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.

After sending off Carlos with her gaze, Mikayla immersed herself in her hectic work and prepared the material she would need for their department’s first formal meeting that afternoon.

On the company’s twelfth floor, there were smaller conference rooms especially for departments to have their meetings in. At 2:30 pm, all of the department members gathered there.

“Today’s meeting is to summarize the problems we have encountered in recent days, and then discuss countermeasures together to draft a more flawless work plan,” Mikayla announced, sitting at the front and glancing at every member of the department. Mikayla didn’t have her usual cheerful, friendly expression, but gave off a strong and domineering air. This made others, including her assistant Maxius, become more solemn as well.

Quinnlyn, Mikayla’s secretary, passed the information to everyone before sitting beside Mikayla and recording the minutes.

‘Before that, I wanted to highlight a recurring issue that has popped up recently,” stated Mikayla gravely. She was strict about this issue because although she knew it was a common occupational hazard, it would still impact work efficiency if not corrected in time. She continued, “Among similarly qualified people and positions, our department pays the highest. I have been generous in requesting extra privileges and compensation for everyone, but your recent working attitude has disappointed me! You were all hand–picked by me, which means I know your capabilities well. The slack you have shown in your current work will directly affect our future projects. Except for Maxius and Quinnlyn, come and see me privately if you have no idea what your problem is. I hope this is the first and last time I need to talk to everyone about this. Let’s not waste any more time on this.” Mikayla’s voice was gentle, and her face was calm, but there was a hint of coldness in her eyes. Her aura was domineering enough to hold everyone’s attention at that moment. “That’s all! I hope that in the coming days, we can all move forward together! We should speed up the progress

of our work otherwise we won’t be able to hit our performance target in three months. Let’s stop wasting time. Next, let’s look at the problems we have encountered before and resolve some first,” Mikayla said.

In the meeting room, Mikayla opened a file and worked with them to resolve the issues. Because it was a new product, there were many vulnerabilities and unstable factors. For example,

the problems that would occur when laptops were used for a certain period were what they needed to resolve now. And when they launched this product in the future, they needed to ensure it had clear advantages compared to other laptops from the previous generation…

A heated discussion took place in the meeting room. Mikayla listened carefully and occasionally took notes. For each problem, people put forward their ideas and considerations. After everything was resolved, Mikayla began assigning jobs. “Next, Quinnlyn, go to the marketing department and get two more people to help Taylor.” Mikayla looked at Taylor and ordered, “You’ll be leading them to generate a market analysis report based on

the client’s real–time needs for our next update!”

“Yes, Ms. Salvatore!” Taylor answered.

“Let’s not slack off. Carry on with our previous work and strive to reach the expected level in our next update! Only then can we count it as halfway to success. If we don’t make it, I’ll be deducting your bonuses! Of course, if you guys hit the target, I’ll treat you guys to a meal in addition to the promised bonus,” Mikayla declared. This was how Mikayla worked–doling out rewards and punishments accordingly.
