Chapter 47
Sabrina's direct refusal caused Eva to sigh. She had witnessed the former marry with such anticipation, only to observe her waiting alone in marriage. Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
Even though Nelson had returned, Sabrina seemed indifferent now. Her eyes no longer lit up with excitement as they once did at the mention of Nelson. Eva genuinely felt sorry for her.
The current Sabrina bore a striking resemblance to her former self from over six years ago, when her father, Samson, passed away unexpectedly.
She appeared fragile, as if she might crumble. Yet, she did not cry. Instead, she comforted her mother while managing Samson's funeral affairs.
Sabrina accepted whatever fate had handed to her and strived hard to move forward.
"If you don't go, will you miss the chance to uncover the mastermind?" Eva asked.
"It's not easy to find the mastermind. Let's wait a bit longer."
Sabrina was well aware of it, so Eva did not try to persuade her further. She simply went off to attend to her tasks.
Half an hour later, Dylan arrived.
As soon as Eva saw him, she said curtly, "Ms. Wyatt won't go."
Dylan countered, "How can she not go? Don't you know what kind of rumors people are spreading? They're saying Ms. Wyatt relies on the Tucker family's influence to act all high and mighty.
"There's clearly a problem with the goods, but when someone came to resolve it, she shut the door in their face."
Eva was infuriated by those words. She found Amanda shameless for distorting the facts like this.
"Has Ms. Wyatt not endured enough slander over the years? If we clarify each issue individually, we won't have the time to work on anything else. I finally understand why she refuses to go.
"She can tolerate others' misunderstandings, but Mr. Tucker…"
Eva lowered her voice before adding, "If Mr. Tucker steps in, doesn't that imply he also blames Ms. Wyatt? Her attendance would only make matters worse!"
"No, that's not what Mr. Tucker thinks—" Dylan tried to explain, but Eva paid him no heed.
She simply turned and walked away.
Dylan sighed and continued, "Try asking Ms. Wyatt this—if she doesn't go, and something happens to Gerald, will she regret it?"
Eva frowned upon hearing that.
Sabrina overheard what Dylan said.
"Why is Gerald involved in this?"
…
Nelson did not return to Tucker Group or involve himself in the trading industry.
He felt that he should not have tangled himself in this mess. Somehow, Amanda had heard that Sabrina was his mother's goddaughter and sought out Ronaldo through indirect means.
Nevertheless, Ronaldo ignored her.
The rumors had spiraled out of control. Even if Sabrina stepped forward to clarify, it might not necessarily resolve the matter.
Ronaldo asked Nelson, "Are you and Sabrina going to continue on like this? You're not with her, yet you refuse to divorce her. How long will this go on?"
"I haven't had my fill of her. So why should I divorce her?" Nelson retorted.
"Nelson, what happened to you during those three years abroad? Why are you such a jerk now? Even if you want to be intimate with her, shouldn't you ensure she's in a good mood?"
Suddenly, Nelson remembered what happened the other time. He wondered if it was because Sabrina was in a bad mood.
Thus, he decided to help her resolve the issue and "cheer" her up.
…
Besides Amanda, there were several influential figures from the trading industry in the private room.
They waited a long time, yet Sabrina was still nowhere to be seen. The people present could not help but feel displeased.
"Ms. Wyatt hasn't changed at all. She's still so arrogant," someone commented.
Another chimed, "She's a young woman with a sizable business. It's inevitable."
Someone else remarked, "Mr. Tucker, I don't mean any offense, but let's talk about George. In the 1990s, when the preserved fruits product first hit the export market, the Sallows controlled the pricing.
"How did things turn sour between George and Ms. Wyatt to the point he ended up in jail? I heard she refused to engage in mediation."
The underlying message was clear. Sabrina was still riding on the Tuckers' influence and showing little regard for others.
Nelson leaned back in his seat lazily.
"Is that so? Sabrina is so unreasonable, huh?"
"We're all partners here. There's no need to make things look so ugly, right?"
Nelson nodded.
"You're all right. In the business world, there are no enemies."
Right then, Sabrina pushed open the door and entered. Everyone paused briefly. Some of them awkwardly scratched their noses.
Nelson looked up at her, wondering when she had stopped caring about him. It seemed like she was no longer bothered if he did not return home.
Upon seeing Sabrina, Amanda hooked her arm around hers, saying, "Ms. Wyatt, we've been waiting for you. Please help us out with this situation."
Amanda had laid the groundwork. At that moment, everyone in the industry believed that Sabrina was asserting her power unjustly.
Very few people knew the truth about what transpired between Amanda and Sebastian. Hence, Sabrina had to take the loss silently.
Sabrina did not utter a single word as she stared at Amanda coldly.
