Chapter 175 I'll Treat Her Well
After dinner, my parents pulled me into the study and placed my identification documents on the table.
I stepped forward. Just as I was about to pick them up, Mom stopped me.
"We can give this to you. But first, we need to ask you a few questions," she said solemnly.
She looked at me with deep concern and asked, "Have you really thought this through? Is Eric truly the one?"
Dad gazed at me lovingly. "Sweetheart, our family isn't struggling to put food on the table. There's no need for you to rush into marriage. Your mother and I can take care of you. Even if you never get married, we'll always support you."noveldrama
I felt a surge of warmth spread through my chest. Regardless, I nodded firmly. "I've thought it through. Eric treats me very well, and I sincerely want to marry him. It may seem rushed, but this is a decision I made after careful consideration."
I knew exactly what my parents were worried about. Even though they had a good impression of Eric, they couldn't fully trust him just yet. After all, I had been hurt by Jeremiah before. They didn't want to see history repeat itself.
"Mom, Dad, we've really thought this through." I met their eyes earnestly while subtly glancing at the documents on the table.
The main reason I came home today was to take them with me. Eric and I had already agreed to get our marriage certificate tomorrow.
Seeing how resolute I was, Dad let out a long sigh and handed me the documents.
But just as I was about to take them, he suddenly paused. "Are you absolutely sure?"
"I am!" Without giving him another chance to hesitate, I snatched the documents from his hands and stuffed them into my bag.
Clapping my hands, I playfully winked at them.
Dad was momentarily stunned before chuckling in resignation.
Now that the documents were in my hands, there was nothing left to argue about. "Let's call Eric in, then," Dad said, waving me off.
I opened the door to find Eric standing outside. I tilted my head toward the study and said, "My parents want to talk to you."
Then, I lowered my voice so that they couldn't hear me and added apologetically, "They might ask a lot of weird questions... I apologize in advance."
Eric chuckled and ruffled my hair. "It's fine."
With that, he strode in confidently.
Half an hour later, the study door swung open, and Eric emerged with his usual calm expression. Judging from the looks on their faces, the conversation had gone well.
On the way home, I couldn't hold back my curiosity and asked, "What did my parents ask you?"
Eric kept his gaze on the window. "Nothing much. They just asked me why it had to be you. They said that while you were perfect in their eyes, others might judge you for having been married to Jeremiah. They wanted to know why I still chose you despite that."
A sharp pang of pain shot through my heart, and I instinctively pressed for more.
"And what did you say?"
Eric chuckled, then turned to match my gaze.
"I told them I've liked you for a long time-since before you even got divorced. That's why I worked so hard to help you end your marriage, so I could become your husband. Then, I promised that I'd treat you weltor Flint Group would go bankrupt."
My eyes widened in shock.
For those of us in the world of business, words carried weight. Even if we weren't superstitious, no one would casually say something that could become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Yet Eric had said it without hesitation. The revelation left me momentarily stunned,
unable to process it right away.
All I could do was let out an awkward laugh.
"Well... at least we'll be allies from now on. As long as we work together, that
counts as you treating me well too."
As I spoke, I avoided looking at him.
Even I wasn't sure why I suddenly felt so nervous.
What do you think?
