Chapter 22: What Is Love
Chapter 22: What Is Love
Lauren thought to herself, "Alfred, do you want to kill me again? No way!" NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
"Get out!" Lauren resisted fiercely, pushing away the tall man who was suddenly stunned.
"Hello! Are you competing with the Kent Group?"
"Yes, ma'am. Do you have any information for us?"
"Of course, as long as you can pay for it."
"Name the price, ma'am."
"10 million. I will send you a copy of the financial report of Alfred's company."
"Deal."
Carrie's greedy voice was heard from the recorder.
"Do you want me to continue?" Lauren handed the recorder to Alfred.
After Alfred took the recorder, his face was pale. Carrie, who kept saying that she loved him, really betrayed him.
"Why did you do this?" Alfred asked Lauren while tightly held the recorder that was still playing Carrie's voice in a loop. He didn't believe that this woman would be so kind and deliberately told him who the traitor was.
"Nothing." Lauren adjusted the collar torn by Alfred, brushed her hair, turned to pick up the contract and the official document that fell on the floor.
"I just don't want you to end up so badly," The plain tone made Alfred feel even more uneasy.
Meanwhile, he grew more curious about this woman. Why was she constantly against him? Why should she tell the person who betrayed him? This was obviously not beneficial to her.
"Who the hell are you?" Alfred's heart suddenly skipped a beat. He realized that he didn't even know what the woman's full name was, and she seemed to know him well.
"You will know soon. I hope Mr. Kent will not react so emotionally as you are now, otherwise, it may be terrifying." The woman got up, walked up to him, and whispered to his ears. She looked enchanting and also a bit sarcastic.
Lauren thought to herself, "Alfred, I, Lauren Jones are back. I, covered with all these bruises, was reborn with hatred for you. I will take everything from you bit by bit, just like what you did to me!"
"Oh, I would like to remind you that you really need to be careful with the women you met. The more pure and harmless they seemed, the more likely they are to stab you in the back. By the way, your beloved Carrie looks really pure and innocent!" Lauren deliberately lowered her voice and uttered a few words to Alfred's ear, deliberately driving Alfred to think in a certain way.
"What—do—you—want?" Alfred noticed that the woman in front of him approached him with some purpose, so he pulled her to his chest.
"I said I just didn't want you to be screwed by Carrie!" Lauren was caught by Alfred suddenly, her face blushing.
"Are you so kind?" Alfred smelled the fragrance of her as he breathed. The faint body fragrance was very similar to that of Lauren.
"It doesn't matter whether I am kind or not. I have given you the evidence. If you still doubt it, why don't you ask your woman personally?" Lauren broke free from Alfred's arms and rolled her eyes at him.
"Alfred, that's all I want to say. It's up to you whether to believe it or not!" Lauren walked away quickly after saying that.
She thought, "Alfred, that's who you are. You can't wait to take advantage of a woman when you see her pretty face."
Lauren went out of the conference room and scolded Alfred in her heart. She had just seen clearly that Alfred carried her into her arms deliberately and stared at her with a strange look.
She said to herself, "Alfred Kent, it turns out that you like aloof women. The colder I am, the closer you want to get! At that time, you were always so cold when I was being so affectionate. I always thought that you would be touched by me, but it was a pity that you didn't even look at me. You're doing this to yourself."
Lauren had gone far. Her body fragrance in the air was gradually dissipating. Alfred tried his best to absorb the remaining smell.
When he held her just now, the familiar feeling came back as if he was holding Lauren before.
Alfred was lost in thought. He didn't know why he felt something strange to the woman who resembled Lauren. Was it because he was using her as a substitute for Lauren?
It was ridiculous. He wished Lauren could be gone for good and never be seen in this life, how could he even find a substitute for her? Alfred said to himself, suppressing the mixed feelings in his mind.
"I will send you Alfred's official document immediately. You can contact me whenever you need me in the future."
Along the way, Alfred kept playing that recording repeatedly. He wanted to find traces that could prove that it was fake, but unfortunately, every word of it was said by Carrie.
The one who loved him was killed by him, and the one who he loved wanted to trap him.
Alfred sighed. He never felt that the journey home was so long.
Back home, Alfred was still hesitating, trying to give Carrie a chance to explain. He opened the door, only to find that the house was in chaos. Carrie was busy doing things in front of him, but she wasn't cleaning the house.
"What are you doing?" Alfred squeezed the recorder in his hand.
Carrie glanced at him and realized that Alfred was back. She didn't greet him as warmly as usual, but replied coldly, "I want to go home."
"You don't want to live here?" Carrie had requested to live here several times before moving in.
Carrie turned her back to Alfred and rolled her eyes. "I can have as much food and clothes as I want here, except for being a real wife. I will come back when I can be Mrs. Kent!"
When Carrie suddenly threatened Alfred, Alfred had the urge to strangle her for a moment. Was it true that the most important thing to be with him was to be his wife?
"Carrie, tell me, do you love me, or my identity?"
