“It’s better we rely on ourselves than expect help from others,” Colton said, his voice firm and his face darkening. “I heard from the black market that this lab is one of the best. If Allison had it, so they’ll have it here too.”

Melany rested her head on his shoulder, her voice soft and soothing. “Yeah, they’re bound to have it here. And, Colton, it’s amazing that you even managed to find a place like this.”

The place had a certain coldness to it, and despite Melany’s attempt to sound confident, the unease in her voice was undeniable. Colton’s behavior toward Allison had shifted recently—he wasn’t as distant as he used to be. There were even times when, in the middle of the night, he would murmur Allison’s name without realizing it.

Trying to steer the conversation, Melany said in a casual tone, “You know, Vrining would make a fantastic vacation spot. Once your mom’s headaches are taken care of, we should come back here and relax. I heard Allison and Mr. Lloyd were just here for a holiday. Honestly, I’m so jealous.”

At first, Colton didn’t react. His face was blank, but slowly, his expression hardened into something colder.

“We’ll discuss it some other time,” he replied curtly.

Allison stood outside the window, observing the scene inside. A plan began to form in her mind. She realized that she would need a couple of fools tomorrow to create a diversion—and they seemed like the perfect candidates for the job.

Without hesitation, she turned away and headed to the tool room. There, she grabbed a pair of black-framed glasses.

The glasses were a simple but clever disguise. They could blur her facial features and subtly change her appearance. When combined with the makeup she already had on, it would be more than enough to keep Colton and Melany from recognizing her.

“Judith, do you have a mask?” Allison asked, glancing at the woman standing nearby.

“Yes, I do,” Judith nodded and looked up at her, her movements briefly halting. “Alice, those glasses make you look… a little odd,” she remarked, tilting her head slightly.

Allison adjusted the glasses on her face and explained, “I normally wear contacts, but I was in such a rush today that I forgot them. Jareth asked me to entertain some guests, and since I’ve caught a bit of a cold, I thought I’d borrow a mask from you.”

Judith didn’t think twice and handed Allison a professional-grade mask from her workspace. “This could work.” Then, she added with a huff, “Honestly, Jareth is something else, making you deal with clients like that.”
