Chapter 354 She Is Telling You...
Baldwin was at a loss for words.
Mabel squinted at her son with a frown. "The unwillingness on your face was too obvious to be ignored...'
Henry was rendered speechless then.
Baldwin put on a resigned face. "Mom, it's not like what you think, but what you see now. Things like that, can't be made by force." Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
He wished Mabel happiness, but he didn't want it to come with a lie.
"Only themselves know what they want for real sometimes. Henry was a grown-up man now, we can't keep meddling in his affairs. Don't you know your grandson? How could he allow others to have a finger on his pie?"
Henry's ignorance of Nova grieved Mabel and Baldwin's indifference caused her anxiety. "I'm afraid that it will be too late to be regretful if someday he comes to realize that Nova is actually the world of him!"
Baldwin sighed inwardly, falling into silence.
Mabel spoke again. "As for my health condition, I think I know it best, I'm very well. You shouldn't be too worried about it and travel so far to look in on me. I have got over the sore point of mine, so, I will take care of myself, you know, now I'm taking pills on time and it works on me."
Baldwin nodded with satisfaction. For moments later he turned to look at Mabel once again. "I share the same idea in terms of Nova with you, if so, you should mind your health to borrow more years so that we can wait for Henry to regret."
Tell the truth, that was what Mabel wanted to hear from Baldwin. Nodding and pouting, she caviled, "Yeah, I'll wait and see him having a taste of his own medicine. For such a conceited man, he should pay for his conceit and arrogance crying pitiably!"
Baldwin didn't echo her words but gave a slight cough to hide his resignation. He just hopes Mabel could really leave them some time to mind their business alone.
Here at the banquet.
Henry was going around to look for Nova after his talk with Evan. A few seconds later, he finally spotted Nova sitting in front of Michelle, then he came striding along to meet her.
Nova seemed to be getting along pretty well with Michelle. Nova was oblivious to Henry, but Michelle noticed Henry when he strode across the crowds. "Mr. King, it's glad to see you again." Said she, her eyes shining with light.
Henry simply nodded his greeting. His own way of facing the people he couldn't be bothered to circulate, making Michelle burn with awkwardness.
Nova looked back hearing the sound, frowning. What does he come for?
Will his into nonexistence. Why doesn't he stay away from herself and allow her some breathing time? I'm really sick of pretending to be nice to him!
"How long do you still need to rest? It's late." Henry's eye flicked up.
"I'm in high heels all evening, you know, my feet are sore after so much walk." She wasn't pretending.
She turned a little, hoping he could realize the implications of her words. Honestly, she was unable to move now due to tiredness, not to mention that negotiation was totally none of her business.
Not to mention that it was the antagonistic Henry who picked the damn shoes for her!
Nova surprised Henry with her words, and Henry himself didn't anticipate that. Subconsciously, he lowered his gaze to her feet, but it was blocked by the dress. He couldn't see through the dress to see what was wrong with her feet.
Henry let out a sneer, but remaining his smile in place. "Can you just hang in there? We will finish soon."
Again, Nova was rendered speechless, anger rising in her throat. Damn you, ruthless asshole! He must want to misuse her with the excuse of work.
Thank God, there was Michelle. With her presence, Henry could only pretend to be a real gentleman and be civil. Nova managed to keep her smile in place and said endearingly, "Mr. King, brilliant as you, could surely handle all of those projects easily. In this case, what's the use of me? With a pair of sore feet, I could be nothing helpful but an encumbrance of you. Please, could you give me more time to rest my feet?"
Then she turned a bit to look Michelle in the eyes. "And, Michelle is an acquaintance of you, it's a good opportunity for you two to have a stroll around." The way she looked at Michelle, friendly, curious, and kind.
Michelle blinked, rather surprised.
But she didn't miss the deep line between Henry's eyebrows. Therefore, she made up her mind to refuse. "It would be great, but just like Miss Bush, my feet get tired, and I’ve got something else to deal with. So, I can't have a stroll with Mr. King.
Her words sound like an echo of Nova's words, giving Nova more confidence to bluff it out. She winked at Henry mischievously, her look clearly stated: Now you know how tired our women are? She is telling
you how tiring the heels are in case you can't imagine!"
