Chapter 71 Close at Hand
The phone rang all of a sudden.
Amanda shoved Iverson away forcefully. She was flustered and shocked as she gasped for air.
What did she do? She didn’t refuse just now.
“Hello?”
“I’m backstage. Wait for me. I’ll be right there.”
It was a call from Joleen. Amanda reported to Joleen that she was safe. Her gasp made the other end of the line realize that something was wrong. “Amanda, are you all right?”
“It’s okay. I… I’ll hang up first. See you later.”
Amanda hung up in a hurry but didn’t dare to look Iverson in the eye. “My friend is still waiting for me. I’m leaving now.”
She took several steps forward in a panic.
“Amanda.”
Iverson’s voice rang out from behind her. “Did you accept?”
“What did I accept?” Amanda panicked. “I didn’t!”
“But the media knows everything.”
Amanda said indignantly, “So what do they know?”
A faint smile appeared on the man’s cold face where it was always cold at this moment. “I want some face too.”
Seeing him walking toward her, Amanda panicked. “Don’t come any closer.”
Iverson stopped.
Amanda stood in place, her mind in chaos. Her heart wanted to jump out of her chest. After a long while, she said, “Give me some time. I’ll think about it.”
“Okay.”
“I’m leaving now. Don’t follow me.”
With that, Amanda fled.
Looking at the woman’s panicked figure, Iverson stuck a hand into his pocket and narrowed his eyes.
Joleen’s car drove out of the Byran Group’s underground garage and into the street.
“What’s wrong?”
Joleen looked Amanda up and down as she drove and asked meaningfully, “Are you all right?”
“I’m fine. What could happen to me?”
Joleen pointed at her own lips. “Why don’t you look at yourself in the mirror?”
Amanda was stunned, pulled down the baffle above her head and the embedded mirror reflected her red lips. All her lipstick was spent, and her lips were getting red and swollen.
She finally understood why Joleen looked strange the moment she got into the car.
“This is… I accidentally rubbed against it.”
“Do you think I’ll believe you?” Joleen glanced at her. “You were pulled away by Iverson in front of everyone and you two were alone for so long. When you came back, you panicked and almost got in the wrong car. Your lipstick has been spent and you were in a panic. Your face almost had the words ‘I kissed Iverson’ written on it.”
“Joleen!” Amanda begged with a blush on her face, “Stop it!”
Joleen giggled, “That’s not a bad thing. It doesn’t matter if you did kiss him, we didn’t lose anything, right?”
Amanda’s face turned even redder. “Please, can you change the topic?”
“Okay,” Joleen finally stopped teasing her, “Where are we going now?”
Amanda gathered her thoughts and said, “Let’s go to the office building in Sisson Tower to see how the decoration is going.”
“Then I’ll go with you. I haven’t been to your company yet.”
“Okay.”
Looking at the tall buildings outside the window, Amanda’s heart was a mess.
Why had she agreed to Iverson that she would think about it?
The news came out soon.
Although the media didn’t expose Amanda’s identity, people in the circle still recognized the identity of the mysterious woman in the news. Amanda’s phone was almost going to explode the whole afternoon, and in the end, she had no choice but to turn it off.
She was having a headache. Joleen was calm as usual. She looked around the office building that was about to be decorated and teased Amanda at the same time.
“I think you should stay at my place for a while. Although the city is good, there are too many reporters.”
“It’s fine. I’ve said what I should say. The reporters should not follow me anymore.”
“All right, as long as you think it’s safe. But I don’t think Iverson will leave you alone. He’s the president of the Byran Group.”
“Let’s stop talking about him. What do you think of my office? Do you have any suggestions?”NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
“Very good. I like sofas in the leisure area very much, but there still lacks something.”
“What does it lack?”
“It’s close at hand.”
Joleen crossed her arms and smiled at her. “I resigned.”
Amanda was stunned for a moment. When she came back to her senses, there was ecstasy in her eyes. “Joleen, are you serious?”
“Do I look like I’m joking? My resignation report has been approved by the time I return from this business trip. I can come and help you after I hand over my work. What do you think, Miss Jewell?”
“If you are willing to come, of course, I especially welcome, but it’s too unfair for you!”
Amanda was overjoyed.
Joleen had reached mid-level management in a consultant company that was listed among the top 500 companies in the world. If she continued to work there, she would soon become an executive, and even becoming a partner was very promising. But she just resigned as she said.
“Joleen, think over carefully, you can’t ruin your own future just for me.”
“How can it be said to ruin my future? I am very optimistic about you being able to set up this company. When the time comes, I will be a senior executive partner. Won’t it be easier and more comfortable than working for others? Will you treat me badly?”
“Of course not.”
Amanda was still concerned. “I just feel that it’s very unworthy of your talent. My future here is still uncertain.”
“I don’t mind.”
Joleen walked to the window of the office and pulled down the shutter to look outside. The workers were currently carrying furniture like office desks, and there was already the prototype of a company’s office.
She turned around and leaned against the window. “I’ve been tired over the years. Although I earned a lot from consulting, I’ve been on business trips all year round. I want to take a break and find a place to stay.”
Joleen had an extremely gentle personality. Although the workplace was harsh, she still retained the warmth of her bones.
Amanda reached out to her. “Then I can only say that welcome.”
“Happy cooperation, Miss Jewell.”
“……”
The night screen has hung down.
The business car drove through the bustling street.
“Boss, we’ve checked the CCTV of the surrounding area. The place where Miss Jewell and Mr. Dolley had dinner last night, Miss Ginos had been there as well.”
In the car, Jamie’s voice was very low.
Even though there was only Iverson, except him and the driver in the car, he was still very careful.
Iverson frowned slightly, and a hint of anger appeared in his cold eyes.
Jamie said, “However, Miss Ginos has rarely gone to the old house recently. I thought that she had given up, but she really did send a text message. Please have a look…”
“Ignore it.”
Two cold words echoed in the carriage.
Iverson looked out of the window and just happened to see the electronic screen of the shopping mall across the road, on which was the endorsement advertisement for that movie queen’s luxury goods.
Today, in front of so many people in Ducco, he announced that he was pursuing Amanda. This was equivalent to telling those women who wanted to get close to him to take care of themselves.
Jamie reminded, “But Miss Ginos’s family and your family have been friends for generations. Isn’t it special?”
Iverson said indifferently, “There’s nothing special.”
