Chapter 296
Deep into the night.
Denise delivered the documents. In the study, Harvey and Eloise sat side by side.
He signed first, decisively and briskly. When it was Eloise's turn, she held the paper for a long time before bending down to sign her name.
Tears welled in her eyes.
Harvey leaned back on the sofa, watching her for a few seconds, his tone laced with mockery. "Isn't this what you wanted?"
A sense of satisfaction filled him. Finally, he had managed to make Eloise feel awful.
Eloise was upset. She was not like him. Harvey did not love her, and divorce was nothing to him. But for her, with all the memories, she divorced him.
From then on, they would become strangers.
Eloise gently put down the pen, and whispered as she stood up, "Tomorrow morning, I will move out with the kids."
Harvey was taken aback. So soon?
Eloise didn't say anything more. She held the doorknob of the study, gently opened the door, and gently walked out.
The door closed quietly behind her.
Harvey stared at the door panel. The satisfaction he had felt was slowly sinking.
Early morning.
The movers were already at work, going in and out. When Harvey descended the stairs, tie neatly knotted, he saw the scene.noveldrama
Coincidentally, Eloise was also in the hall. She calmly told him, "I will have the things at the villa moved out in a few days. The piano... I want it."
Harvey looked at her calm demeanor, and his throat tightened. "Take whatever you want."
Eloise nodded at him and then left in Baron's car.
Harvey didn't go to the office that day. He waited until the movers had emptied Eloise's belongings before slowly making his way upstairs.
Everything was gone. In this newly refurbished bedroom, all of Eloise's belongings were gone.
Harvey slowly sat down on the mattress. Feeling restless, he lit a cigarette and smoked in silence. He thought Eloise was heartless, leaving so abruptly.
The old housekeeper knocked at the door and cautiously said, "Sir, the movers left a small box behind. It might belong to Ms. Eloise. It's in such a nice box, it must be something important."
Harvey reached out, "Let's see."
The housekeeper handed him the small box. Harvey held the cigarette in one hand and felt the box with the other. He could tell that this was specially packed; it must have been one of Eloise's treasures. Perhaps, it was a piece of jewelry worth billions.
Harvey casually opened the box, but to his surprise, it wasn't any rare jewel. Instead, it was an old diary and a small voice recorder.
He frowned and found it weird that Eloise would cherish such things.
He gently opened the diary, and then froze. It was his handwriting, expressing his love and longing for Eloise-
[My greatest love, is Eloise.
She likes to play the piano and wear designer clothes.
Every day, I will give her roses.
Our first child is Linda. Eloise almost died giving birth to her. Linda is not well, she has a blood clotting disorder, and is AB-negative.
Eloise is pregnant again, it's been over six weeks now. I need to be gentle with her.
Eloise can't drive.
When Eloise hugs me, it means she wants me to kiss her. No matter how important the matter at hand, you must put it down and give her a kiss. She's still
a little girl, yet she's the mother of my two children. Eloise likes it when I call her 'little mommy.']
Harvey's throat bobbed as he quickly turned the pages-
One page, two pages... The whole book was filled with such entries.
Harvey's handsome face turned a little pale. He turned on the voice recorder, and his voice slowly filled the bedroom that Eloise once occupied.
"Eloise, by the time you hear this. I may not be by your side. You must be crying, right? Fool, don't cry. At least we are still legally married. At least we have two children. The one in your belly is a boy. Let's name him Darrien, Darrien Horigan. .Eloise, promise me, you will find me. Don't give up no matter what. Because I love you, and I can't bear to live the rest of my life without you. The old me, no matter how reckless and free, could never compare to the feeling I get with you. Eloise, I like you.
Eloise, be brave for me one more time, okay?"
Harvey was somewhat dazed. He really did love Eloise that much. He told Eloise not to give up, but he easily divorced her.
Harvey closed the box and dialed Eloise's number; he wanted to ask her.
Eloise didn't pick up his call. Harvey then called Baron, who was leaning against his car smoking a cigarette. When Baron heard his question, he casually replied, "She is at the cemetery. It seems like she wants to dig something up."
Cemetery...
Harvey grabbed his car keys, strode downstairs, and got into his car. As he touched the steering wheel, he felt his heart trembling. He didn't know why Eloise went to the cemetery, but he had a hunch that it must have been something important.
After reading the diary, he didn't know what he wanted, but at that moment, all he wanted to do was stop her.
.
In the early spring of March.
The roses Harvey planted for Eloise were not yet in bloom. The Horigan family cemetery was quiet and cold. Eloise, in a white coat, stood quietly in front of the tombstone, paying tribute to her once cherished love.
[Harvey and Eloise.]
After a long while, she whispered, "Harvey, I'm sorry, I've gone back on my word."
She gave up. She couldn't wait any longer. But she always remembered the love they once shared. Perhaps, the love in memory was the most beautiful and worth her protection, rather than futilely trying to change a man who did not love her.
A soft smile appeared on Eloise's lips.
"Harvey, I'm back. From now on, I will only watch over you, and no one else will be between us."
She moved the tombstone and took out the diamond ring that had been sleeping for many years. The ring still shone brilliantly.
Tears welled up in Eloise's eyes. She gently put the diamond ring on her slender ring finger.
"Harvey, I'm back."
At the entrance of the cemetery, Harvey parked his car and got out. From afar, he saw Eloise. He saw her put a diamond ring gently on her finger. She kissed the ring with teary eyes, like some kind of ritual, like some kind of confession.
"Eloise!"
Harvey's face had turned as pale as a sheet, as he called out her name. Under the morning sunshine, Eloise slowly turned her head, silently meeting his gaze. She was a sight to behold in the gentle breeze, blooming like a summer sunflower.
Yet, she was no longer his.
They had already signed the divorce papers...
