Chapter 315
In the elevator, several bodyguards surrounded Brett.
Orlena squeezed herself against the edge of the elevator, looking frail after just having had her stomach pumped due to an overdose of sleeping pills.
She tried her hardest to get closer to Brett. The bodyguards, all looking menacing, blocked her way, leaving her looking rather pitiful.
Donny, watching the scene, couldn't help but laugh.
Brett spoke up, "Let her through."
A path was cleared, and Orlena managed to squeeze her way next to Brett. She stuck her tongue out at the bodyguards, a playful act that was rather adorable.
Brett couldn't help but think back to the baby bottle in her bag. His lips curled up into a light smile.
His previously weary body suddenly felt much more relaxed. He thought to himself, was this the magic of young girls? The ability to make one feel completely
at ease.
Brett's hotel suite was grand, covering an area of about 300 square meters. Inside, there was even a mini gym.
As busy as he was, he ordered food to be brought up once inside. Donny immediately went to arrange it.
In less than half an hour, a table full of rich Southern-style food was wheeled in by the chef. Still engrossed in his documents, Brett casually said, "Young girls these days love spicy food, don't they? You don't mind, do you?"
Orlena hurriedly shook her head. "No, no, not at all."
The three of them ate together. It was clear that Donny was Brett's right-hand man, and he knew how to keep the atmosphere light during meals, often cracking jokes.noveldrama
Orlena wasn't used to spicy food. After a few bites, the spice hit her throat, and her eyes became even more red. Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. She poked at the poached fish in her bowl and whispered in protest, "Why do we have to eat in the hotel suite? The spicy smell is going to linger forever."
Hmph, what a load of crap about young girls loving spicy food. It was clear that Brett himself loved spicy food.
Brett had noticed this earlier but didn't say anything. The sight of her face turning red from the spice was rather amusing. He gave Donny a look.
Donny understood and said with a smile, "Well, Mr. Brett can't exactly dine out due to his status. Seems like you're not a fan of this dish. I'll order something else for you."
Orlena's eyes welled up with tears. "I want fried chicken and smoothie."
"I used to have it all the time when Eloise made it for me." She added.
She brought up Eloise. Brett chuckled lightly. This silly girl wasn't completely clueless after all. He quietly ordered Donny, "Get her some fried chicken and smoothie."
Donny was quite surprised. Mr. Brett was never this indulgent with others. People usually catered to him, not the other way around.
Regardless, the fried chicken and smoothie were soon served.
Orlena sat by the floor-to-ceiling window, thoroughly enjoying her food. Brett never ate much, which was why he could maintain his physique and charm even after being in the business world for nearly 20 years.
He just sat there, watching the strikingly beautiful young girl. She was well taken care of by the Horigan family.
Just yesterday, she had swallowed pills, and not too long ago, she was arguing with her ex-fiancé. But now, she was happily munching on fried chicken, completely carefree.
Brett felt a tinge of jealousy.
The table was cleared, and Donny leaned in to whisper, "Mr. Brett, the person is here. Do you want to see them now?"
Brett nodded.
Donny seemed a little hesitant. "Should we move to the study?"
Brett thought for a moment. "No, let's stay here. It's nothing too important."
Orlena heard them talking. She swung her legs and said cheerfully, "Brett, you go ahead with your work. We can talk about our stuff later."
Donny couldn't help but laugh. What could this little girl possibly have to discuss with Mr. Brett...
Brett didn't respond.
Later, he met with several groups of people, all of them successful individuals in their 30s and 40s. They all seemed quite pretentious.
Among them was a particularly attractive woman, full of charm. As she was leaving, she glanced at Orlena and asked, "Mr. Brett, who is this..."
Brett didn't like others prying into his affairs. He casually replied, "Just a younger relative."
Orlena wanted to plead for her brother, but Brett had so many people to meet. Didn't he ever get tired?
Eventually, she couldn't hold out anymore and fell asleep on the sofa, hugging a pillow tightly.
As night fell, Brett saw off the last group of visitors. He was exhausted, but he was used to having a glass of red wine to ease his fatigue when he felt this way.
The suite was dimly lit.
Brett changed into a black suit,
looking quite composed. He held his
glass of wine, observing Orlena
sleeping on the sofa. The lights from outside the floor-to-ceiling window cast a colorful glow around her,
making her look as if she was enveloped in a layer of iridescent
glass. She looked beautiful.
He thought to himself, how could there be a child who could sleep so soundly? So innocent and vulnerable, with absolutely no sense of guard.
Perhaps his gaze was too intense because Orlena woke up. She rubbed her eyes and sat up on the sofa. She was slender, dressed in a long white dress, with her jet-black hair flowing down her back.
She recognized the man in front of her and called out, "Brett."
"You're awake?"
Brett put down his glass and smiled faintly. "Aren't you scared of sleeping in a stranger's room?"
Orlena's cheeks were flushed from sleep. She gently tugged at her hair and said matter-of-factly, "No, I'm not scared. You're Eloise's uncle... I call you Brett."
Brett took a step forward. With just one stretch of his hand, he could touch her cloud-like hair, but he just stood there.
Orlena sat up on the sofa, trying to tame her unruly hair. Her voice was soft. "Brett, how old are you?"
Brett watched her, images flashing through his mind. He simply smiled lightly.
Orlena was a little dazed. Brett
looked so good when he smiled. She was surrounded by good-looking men, her brother being one in a million. But Brett's smile was
different. It was handsomeel.net'
with a
touch of masculinity.
Her heart rate quickened.
"No way, Orlena, you're not falling for Eloise's uncle, are you? Pull yourself
together."
Orlena was knocked off balance by this possibility. The words she had planned to say in pleading for her brother were completely forgotten.
Brett casually adjusted his cufflinks. "It's getting late. I'll take you home."
She was too embarrassed to say anything else and obediently followed him.
Brett took the private elevator down to the hotel's underground parking lot. He unlocked a black Lotus sports car and gestured for her to get in.
Orlena sidled up next to him, whispering, "Brett, where's your secretary? And what about your usual throng of bodyguards?"
Brett lit up a cigarette without raising his head. His skin was smooth, and the corners of his eyes reddened as he puffed on the cigarette, giving him the air of a fallen gentleman.
Exhaling a cloud of smoke, he chuckled lightly. "I don't bring them along for my private outings."
Private. Private outings... Did driving her home count as a private outing?
Orlena found herself feeling weak again, her hands trembling slightly on her lap.
The sleek black sports car darted down the city streets.
At around nine o'clock, they arrived at the front gate of Horigan Mansion. With her hand resting on the car door handle, Orlena found her legs feeling weak. She turned her head to whisper, "Thank you, Brett, 1.
Brett rested his elbow on the car window, quietly smoking.
After a moment, he flicked his cigarette away. His voice sounded hoarse with a
masculine rasp. "I'm too old for little girls."
Orlena bit her lip. "I'm 27, I'm not a little girl."
Brett's slender, pale fingers gently caressed the steering wheel. He smiled
suavely, even with a hint of wickedness. "You still carry a doll and a baby bottle, so if you're not a little girl, then what are you?"
What do you think?
