Chapter 701
Hendrix didn't care about any of that. As soon as he entered the room, the first thing he did was pull Noelle behind him.noveldrama
"No matter how great you think Dylan is, Noelle is now my wife. And that's something you can't change," he said firmly.
Marla fell silent.
Seeing this, Noelle quickly stepped in to smooth things over. "I'm sorry, Mrs. Swift. He didn't mean it that way."
She then turned to Hendrix and said, "Can't you tell Mrs. Swift was just joking? Apologize to her now."
"No, that won't be necessary," Marla interjected before Noelle could pull Hendrix's hand. "In fact, I think what you said earlier was correct. This matter truly has nothing to do with me I've overstepped.
"The doctor said Marshall needs plenty of rest. I appreciate you both coming to visit him, but I think it's best if you leave now."
Compared to earlier, Marla's expression had noticeably darkened.
Noelle wanted to explain further, but Hendrix seemed almost eager to leave. He simply nodded without waiting for Marla to say another word. After a quick goodbye to Marshall, he promptly pulled Noelle to leave.
He didn't even give her a chance to speak. Noelle was practically dragged out of the ward.
"Wait, Hendrix! I said, wait!" As she spoke, Noelle forcefully shook off his grip. Hendrix finally stopped and turned to look at her.
Noelle's brows were furrowed tightly. "What were you doing back there?"
"What was I doing?" Hendrix let out a dry laugh. "You're questioning me? Shouldn't I be the one asking you that?
"If I hadn't stepped in, how were you planning to answer Mrs. Swift? Were you really going to say you think Dylan is a great guy and agree to marry him just to make her happy? Is that it?"
Hendrix had initially assumed that what happened to Marshall last night was orchestrated by Dylan.
And to prevent any foul play with set
Marshall's condition, he had even assigned people to keep a close watch on Dylan.
But it seemed he was wrong. Marshall was genuinely sick, and by sheer coincidence, Dylan had been there to save his life.
With Seline gone, there was no one to inherit Marshall's massive fortune. In fact, it hadn't taken long for countless opportunists to start circling like vultures. This was also why Marshall had been so worn out lately.
Wealth was something everyone desired, the very foundation that kept Marshall at the upper echelon of society. But sometimes, it required someone with the skill and strength to wield it properly. In the wrong hands, it could turn into a devouring monster, consuming everything in its path.
Thus, the Swift family urgently needed someone trustworthy and reliable to depend on. And if Hendrix's guess was correct, they had already set their sights on Dylan.
Dylan's company had already bounced back from the brink. If he gained Marshall's support on top of that, he might actually become a formidable rival against Hendrix.
But Hendrix wasn't afraid of any of that. In fact, he didn't even care.
What truly unsettled him was Noelle. He knew how much guilt she carried toward the Swift family. What if they proposed she marry Dylan? What would she do then?
What do you think?
