Chapter 759
The moment Noelle saw her reflection in Hendrix's eyes, and when he stood under the streetlight and smiled at her, those feelings of resistance and fear vanished instantly.
At the time, Noelle felt as if she had known him for a long time. Even under the dim light, she could vividly trace the contours of his face in her mind. It was as if she had done this countless times before.
Even though her memories of the past remained a blank, just seeing him made her heart race. The feeling was unfamiliar, yet she knew exactly what it was and what it meant.
She liked him, and it felt like she had liked him for a long time.
That night, Hendrix had to stay in the hospital. His whereabouts were supposed to be confidential, but the local authorities were already aware of his presence. After receiving Jerry's report, Austin Warren immediately came to visit with his team.
Of course, Hendrix didn't tell them the truth about how he got injured. Instead, he simply claimed he had tripped and fallen.
However, given the nature of his wounds, anyone with half a brain could tell he was lying. But since he wasn't pressing charges, they figured it was better to avoid making a fuss.noveldrama
"Should we transfer you to a hospital in the city?" Austin asked with a frown. "The conditions here aren't-"
"It's fine," Hendrix replied calmly. "I think this place is quite nice."
"Then, how about I arrange for a few men to stay and take care of you?"
"No, that won't be necessary. I still have one good hand, so I'm not completely helpless. There's no need to waste resources on me."
"But-"
Hendrix knew what Austin was thinking and quickly propped himself up. "I'm really grateful for your help this time. Please continue to keep my whereabouts confidential."
"Of course!" Austin replied immediately. "Don't worry. I've already taken care of everything, including with the hospital. Not a word will leak out about this."
"Thanks," Hendrix said with a smile. After exchanging a few more polite words, he finally saw them off.
Once the room was quiet again, he glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already past 9:00 am, but the person he had been expecting still hadn't shown up.
Hendrix realized he might have overestimated his current standing in Noelle's heart. After all, she had only just met him again.
Even if she felt an instinctive pull toward him based on some vague feelings from the past, he was still a stranger to her in her mind. Not to mention, there was also Irene's interference.
With that in mind, Hendrix decided not to wait any longer. He got up to have himself discharged. But just he turned around, he heard footsteps coming from the door.
"What are you doing?" Noelle had already rushed to his side before he could react. She quickly grabbed his arm, her brows furrowing slightly.
Hendrix looked up, meeting her gaze for a moment before chuckling softly. "What brings you here?"
Even though he sounded surprised, there was no concealing the delight in his eyes.
Noelle pressed her lips together, then said, "My mom hurt you, yet you didn't press charges. I'm very grateful to you for that."
Hendrix raised an eyebrow. "Oh, is that all you feel?"
Noelle paused, seemingly at a loss for words.
Hendrix didn't tease her further. Instead, he glanced at the bag she was carrying. "What did you bring for me?"
What do you think?
