Chapter 779
Chapter 779:
Then, a sharp voice cut through the tense silence.
“Hadley, looks like you’re not as important as you think.”
Hadley turned, confusion flickering across her face, only to find Megan smiling at her.
Though the curve of Megan’s lips suggested amusement, the glint in her eyes held the same hostility she had shown Linda moments ago. Hadley’s brows knitted together. “What are you trying to say?”
Megan tilted her chin, gesturing toward the door. “Your boyfriend was just here, yet he didn’t even glance in your direction. Ha.” She let out a soft chuckle, her gaze sweeping over Hadley like she was studying a particularly disappointing piece of artwork.
“When I left Srixby, I thought Eric would never get over Linda. But when I returned, I heard he had a girlfriend—you.” Megan clicked her tongue, shaking her head. Her voice dripped with mockery. “You’re beautiful, no doubt, but too bad—it wasn’t enough. You still lost to Linda. Eric doesn’t care about you at all.”
Hadley processed the words with eerie calmness. So, Megan was an old acquaintance of Eric’s, someone from his past. It made sense now—Megan must have known Eric long before Hadley was taken in by the Flynn family.
Megan’s smile turned coy. “Since Eric doesn’t truly care about you, I won’t bother holding back.” With a flick of her hair, she sauntered off.
Hadley let out a quiet chuckle, shaking her head. So that was what this was about… Megan liked Eric. How unsurprising!
Outside the practice room, Eric glanced at Linda. “Other than your face, are you hurt anywhere else? Can you walk?”

“Humph.” Linda sneered, shoving his hand away. “Oh, now you care where I’m hurt?”
“Linda…” Eric frowned. After a long pause, he finally said, “I’ll call Ernest to pick you up.”
“No need!” Linda grabbed his arm, her voice sharp. “Why should he come? He’s no different! He doesn’t care about me either!”
“Linda.” Eric sighed. “Don’t say that. Ernest only wants what’s best for you.”
“Ha, ha…” Linda let out a bitter laugh, tears brimming as she smiled.
“‘Wants what’s best for me? That’s rich. He lied to me, and you—Eric, do you even remember who we used to be? Or have you been a spoiled rich kid for so long that you’ve forgotten we both once lived in the shadows?” With that, she spun around.
“Don’t follow me! I don’t need your fake concern!”
“Linda!” Eric stood there, at a loss.
“Mr. Flynn…” Linda’s assistant hesitated. “What should I do?”
“Follow her,” Eric said, frowning. “I’ll call Ernest. Just make sure she doesn’t get herself into danger.”
“Understood, Mr. Flynn.”
Eric pulled out his phone to dial Ernest and filled him in.
After hanging up, he exhaled deeply. Then a thought struck him—Hadley! His expression shifted, and with long strides, he rushed back to the practice room.
But it was empty. No sign of Hadley. Just a janitor mopping the floor. Seeing him enter, the janitor barked, “Stay back! The floor’s wet!”
Eric frowned, backed up, and immediately called Hadley.
As the call rang, unease crept up his spine, his heartbeat quickening. Would she be too angry to answer?noveldrama
