Too Late, Mr. Billionaire: You can’t afford me now

Chapter 810

Chapter 810:

Her gaze was distant, thoughts racing silently behind her eyes. Perhaps, at last, the opportunity she’d been waiting for had presented itself.

Arriving at the hospital, Hadley stepped out just as Linda’s car pulled up. The two women exchanged only a brief glance before walking side by side toward the emergency entrance.

“This way,” Theodore said, quickly leading them inside. But Hadley had already spotted him.

The curtain parted, revealing Eric seated calmly, his left arm elevated, forearm neatly wrapped in clean white bandages. He appeared composed and unharmed beyond the obvious wound—exactly as Theodore had described.

“Eric!”

“Eric!”

Hadley and Linda called his name simultaneously.

Linda had barely moved forward when Hadley quickly reached out, gently pulling her back with a smirk. “Back off—he’s my boyfriend.”

“Eric!” Hadley released Linda, who stood momentarily stunned, as she hurried toward him.

Eric immediately frowned in concern. “Hadley, stop! You shouldn’t run like that—it’s not safe for you or the baby.”

But Hadley ignored his warning, closing the distance quickly before throwing herself into his arms, hugging him tightly around his waist.

Eric staggered slightly from the unexpected impact, momentarily stunned by her sudden display of affection.

“What’s wrong?” Hadley panicked, instantly lifting her worried gaze to his face, her eyes reddening. “Did I hurt you?”

“No, no—that’s not it,” Eric stammered, unusually flustered, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he struggled for words.

After their heated argument that morning, he had assumed reconciliation was far from her thoughts.

Yet here she was, willingly and warmly nestled in his embrace.

Perhaps she still cared after all—maybe he still held a place in her heart. Eric silently acknowledged the chance before him; Hadley had given him an opening, and he’d be a fool not to take it.

“I’m alright,” he answered softly, sliding his uninjured arm gently around her waist. “It’s just a minor wound on my arm.”

“Just your arm?” Hadley sounded unconvinced, urgently pulling away to inspect him from head to toe. “Show me!”

Eric obliged patiently, spreading his arms and allowing her to circle him anxiously. A faint, amused smile tugged at his lips. “Really, Hadley—it’s nothing.” After all, he had two capable bodyguards watching over him. When the attack happened, while Theodore was protecting Hadley at the TV station, Xander had been by his side and immediately stepped in, shielding Eric from harm. Though Xander had sustained minor injuries himself and was receiving treatment nearby, Eric was grateful it wasn’t worse.
