Chapter 80: Love and Affection
Chapter 80 - 80: Love and Affection
[Well, damn. From now on, Izumo will be completely wrapped around Mikan's finger. And me? I'll be the one footing the bill... Wait, Kakashi's place is pretty big, and Tsunade also has a residence. Maybe I should talk to them and see if I can sort out my living situation.]
[But honestly, if Mikan really does marry my brother, it's not a bad thing. She's good-looking, great figure, and most importantly, she's not into that chaotic socializing or wasting money. She's the kind of woman who knows how to run a household.]
Tsunade: '???'
'Is Kamizuki Hikari out of his mind? Just a moment ago, he was trying everything to stop this, and now he's already accepted it.'
Though this was the outcome she wanted, Hikari's abrupt change left her feeling like she couldn't keep up with his train of thought.
For a transmigrator, aside from the shinobi world constantly being at war, starting a family here was actually quite nice.
At least, whether before or after marriage, women here rarely went around "socializing".
Take Yuuhi Kurenai, for example. After Asuma's death, she had remained single all these years despite being so beautiful. That kind of loyalty was truly admirable.
As for why Hikari had stayed single all this time?
Simple—he hadn't felt stable enough yet.
As a man, he just wanted to give every beautiful girl in the world a stable home. Is that wrong?
Of course not.
Any man would want the same.
"Hikari, what do you think of Mikan?" Tsunade decided to probe his thoughts a little more.
Mikan was one of her clan members, after all. She couldn't just push her into a pit.
Hikari caught the aroma of grilled meat and promptly divided the portions—one for Tsunade, one for himself, another for himself, and yet another for himself.
Then another for Tsunade, and the rest? All his.
*Smack!*
Unable to hold back, Tsunade smacked him on the head. "Hey, are you even listening to me?!"
"I am, I am!" Hikari rubbed his head.
"Tsunade-sama, I'd like to offer you a piece of advice—a man's head and a woman's waist are not to be touched casually. Don't you know that?"
Tsunade pointed at her own plate of grilled meat, then at the one in front of Hikari. "I'm the Fifth Hokage. Does it seem appropriate for you to give me such a tiny portion while hogging the rest?"
"I think it's perfectly—" Hikari tried to play it off.
"Hmm?" Tsunade raised her chin, staring him down with an imperious gaze.
Think carefully before you speak, brat.
"Hehe..." Hikari grinned sheepishly. "Eating too much grilled meat at night can make you gain weight. I was only thinking of Tsunade-sama's figure. Who knew you'd misunderstand my good intentions?"
Tsunade scoffed and rapped her knuckles on the table. "I'm a shinobi, and a medical-nin at that. I have my own secret techniques for maintaining my figure, so you don't need to worry about that."
"Then, these are all yours, Tsunade-sama. But... I've already used this plate. Wouldn't that be—"
"I don't mind." Tsunade, too impatient to wait, simply swapped her own plate with the one in front of Hikari, now piled high with meat.
Watching Kamizuki Hikari's crestfallen expression—his failed scheme backfiring—Tsunade felt an immense satisfaction.
Mess with me? Hikari, you've still got a long way to go.
With her ability to overhear his thoughts, Tsunade found herself unusually at ease around him.
Especially when she saw him frustrated—it made all the day's fatigue melt away.
[I DO mind!]
Staring at the two measly pieces of meat left on his plate, Kamizuki Hikari truly understood the meaning of reaping what you sow.
"Grill the rest. And answer me—what do you really think of Mikan?"
"She's fine. Pretty, decent figure. Aside from her slightly nasty personality, she's great. More than a match for my brother!"
"Then why were you so against it earlier?" Tsunade was genuinely curious about his earlier resistance.
Hikari stroked his chin in thought.
"Maybe it's fate's cruel joke. Every time I go to Konoha Hospital, that woman always blocks me. All I want is to chat with those lovely nurses and help them appreciate the wonders of the world. Who'd have thought she'd end up with my brother? My life's going to be hell from now on!"
Despite his words, there wasn't a trace of distress on his face.
"Mikan is a good person. Everyone at the hospital speaks highly of her. As for you... I did some asking around. Do you know what the nurses call you behind your back?" Tsunade fought back a smirk.
"What? 'Handsome'? 'Dashing'? Ah, it's tough being this good-looking. No need to tell me!" Hikari preened. noveldrama
Tsunade shook her head, amusement dancing in her eyes.
"They call you the 'Women's Best Friend'. No one actually sees you as a real man. So yeah—think about that."
Hikari: "...?"
What kind of nonsense was this?
[I respect those women! How did I end up with that kind of title?]
[And besides, I only flirt a little—at most holding hands! I've never even kissed them, so how did it come to this?]
[Are you telling me I need to go full throttle before people will see me as a real man?!]
[Can I just say that I go to the hospital for research? How else do you think I write those hospital scenes so well?!]
Tsunade continued eating, listening to the complaints swirling in Hikari's head.
At first, it was amusing, but the mention of 'research' nearly made her spit out her meat.
'Damn you—! I almost forgot you're the same type of writer as Jiraiya. Men really are all the same—perverts!'
Just thinking about Jiraiya instantly killed a third of her appetite.
Originally, four plates of grilled meat would leave her 70% full. Now, three plates already felt like 80%.
That guy really knew how to ruin a mood.
As for why Tsunade despised Jiraiya but mostly overlooked Hikari's writer persona—it came down to their demeanors.
Jiraiya? Always ogling women's assets.
Hikari, on the other hand, didn't act like that. Besides flirting at the hospital, he maintained the image of a gentleman.
He would never, ever crouch outside the women's bathhouse trying to peep, like Jiraiya. That kind of behavior—admired by men, despised by women—was precisely why Jiraiya got himself locked out of the "respectable" category.
Listening to the cheerful laughter around him, Hikari sighed inwardly.
[My brother's finally grown up. Seeing him and Mikan getting along so well, it looks like I'll be shelling out a wedding gift soon.]
[Being a good little brother in this world is just too hard!]
