Twisted Ties of Love

Chapter 8

Chapter 8

Izabella had been waiting for almost half an hour but still didn’t get a reply from Brett. She checked the time, and at this point, he probably wasn’t gonna reply anymore.

The dried blood on her hands was sticky and unpleasant, so Izabella mustered her strength to wash it off in the bathroom. The cold water just made her

feel chillier inside.

Back in her room, she quickly made a cup of hot water and took painkillers and anticancer medication. Presley gave her potent painkillers that contained anesthetics, which her body only used when she couldn’t stand the pain anymore. Taking too much of those would cause dependence and nerve problems.

She took out all the pills and threw them into a regular container, which went in a drawer. As for Brett, it’s not like they’ve known each other for 16 years, been together for 6, and married for 4. There was nothing to feel attached to.

Izabella woke up when the sky was slightly bright, she didn’t like lazing around in bed. She called her lawyer immediately and asked him to draft a divorce agreement between her and Brett.

When Mr. Collins heard about the divorce, he was shocked and puzzled but didn’t ask too much. They just talked briefly about the contents of the divorce agreement, such as property distribution.

These details were best handled in person, so Izabella asked hesitantly. “Mr. Collins, are you available today?”

Mr. Collins said, “Yes.”

Izabella asked, “Could you come over here so we can discuss this in detail?”

Mr. Collins agreed, “Sure, let me pack up and I’ll be right over.” Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.

Mr. Collins was the Legal Director for The Salotti Group, so Izabella trusted him wholeheartedly. In addition to dealing with the divorce agreement, Izabella also needed to address her will with him. She shared her address with him and then settled down at her dressing table. Even though she had no plans to go out, she had a habit of applying makeup to make her pale complexion appear more lively

As she gazed at her vibrant reflection in the mirror, Izabella smiled. Despite the challenges of today, she found solace in the knowledge that tomorrow would still be there, offering new possibilities.

Worried that Mr. Collins didn’t have breakfast, Izabella made two servings. However, just after nine in the morning, the doorbell rang.

While taking off her apron and hanging it by the wall, she opened the door to see none other than Mr. Collins.

“Ms. Salotti.”

“Come on in. Have you eaten?” Izabella asked.

Mr. Collins followed her inside and replied, “Yes.”

Feeling awkward about eating breakfast herself, Izabella quickly drank a glass of milk before joining Mr. Collins in the living room with a cup of tea.

He wasn’t one to beat around the bush, so after sitting down, Mr. Collins took

out his laptop and began to discuss the matter. When he heard that Izabella wanted to transfer a large portion of The Salotti Group’s shares to Brett, he couldn’t help but look surprised, and his typing fingers paused

*Ms. Salotti, you need to think this through. The Salotti Group is your premarital property, and your husband isn’t entitled to it.

He had seen many ugly divorces fought over splitting up assets, but this is the first time he had witnessed someone giving away premarital assets so willingly

Moreover, this involves a multi–billion–dollar corporation, not to mention the Salotti Group’s other shareholders. Just considering her father, it would be impossible to get his approval. If he found out she divided the company in a divorce, it would likely cause an uproar.

“I know, that’s why I need to discuss with you about my will…” Izabella’s words were cut off by the sudden ringing of the doorbell, causing her to rise and answer the door.

“Just a moment, I need to answer the door.”

As the door swung open, a dark figure unexpectedly filled her view, followed by an unnerving chill. Izabella instinctively stepped back.

Looking up at Brett, Izabella asked, “What brings you back here?”

“Weren’t you the one who asked me to come?” Brett’s eyes seemed somewhat bloodshot, and his natural aura of authority was imposing.

Brett pushed the door wide open and strode into the room, “What was that text you sent me last night?”

Izabella blinked, then smirked. So it was about the divorce, she thought. Look at the man who was insulting her just last night, not wanting to come back. Hearing about the divorce, he rushed back so early How desperate he must be.

Hearing her ambiguous laugh, Brett frowned, scanning the room. Upon noticing a pair of men’s shoes next to the shoe rack, a dangerous glint flashed across his eyes

Brett, who was already in a bad mood, felt a surge of anger. He had always had a short temper, and he never held back when he was upset.

He grabbed Izabella’s wrist, shifting his gaze from the shoes on the floor to her face. Seeing her still in makeup, the smirk on his lips became colder, “So, you’re suddenly asking for a divorce because you’ve cheated me?”

Izabella’s heart tightened, “Brett, what nonsense are you talking about?”

*You asked me to come back tomorrow because you have a man over today, don’t you?” Brett entered the living room, the chill in his eyes Izabella’s breath away

taking

I didn’t…“Izabella didn’t understand why Brett would look at her like this, making her feel uneasy and scared. She felt so frightened that she was stiff, feeling as though the air was being sucked out of her lungs.

Brett hated betrayal more than anything else, even if the woman wasn’t one he loved. If she was his, even if discarded, she was still his and no one else could touch.

Thinking about Izabella sneaking a man into their home made his blood boil.

Hearing the commotion, Mr. Collins rushed out and grabbed Brett’s shoulder.

“Mr. Windham, what is going on?”

Brett turned to him, “Are you Izabella’s lover?”

On hearing this, Mr. Collins realized that Brett had misunderstood, and quickly explained, “No, you’re mistaken. I’m here today only to draft the divorce agreement between you and Ms. Salotti Worrying Brett might not believe him, he quickly handed over his business card.

Brett loosened his grip, Izabella gasped for air, huddling trembling on the sofa.

Mr. Collins breathed a sigh of relief when he saw him let go, and bravely asked, “Why don’t you talk to Ms. Salotti about the divorce property division first, Mr. Windham?”

As soon as he heard the word “divorce“, Brett’s aura turned cold again, and the bizarre mood even caught him off guard, not knowing why he was mad.

Mr. Collins felt his legs go weak under the icy stare and didn’t dare to move his eyes, awkwardly standing on the spot, not knowing whether to stay or leave.

It wasn’t until Brett muttered “Get out that he quickly turned around and left, not even caring about the computer he had left in the reception room.

Izabella’s physical condition was not as good as before, and it took her a while to catch her breath.

Only then did she realize that she was really sick. She had been threatened and thrown onto the sofa by Brett before, but it hadn’t been as unbearable as now, leaving her powerless for a longer while.

“Brett, were you trying to kill me just now?”
