Chapter 71
Chapter 71 Familiar Scent
Adrian had a sudden inspiration and began talking non–stop,
Theo frowned, and a thought flashed in his eves. noveldrama
In the evening, Sierra was alone in the hospital rooms Madison had wanted to stay and keep her company, but she had persuaded Madison to leave.
As the night deepened, the silence grew stronger. It was especially so in the hospital, where the feeling of loneliness became even more intense.
She picked up her phone, found a song, and reached for herbag to search for her headphones. As she opened the zipper, she saw a big envelope and a pink jewelry box inside. Her expression froze for a moment at such a sight
When had these things been placed in her bag?
She took both items out and opened the jewelry box, revealing a delicate star–shaped necklace. She then picked up the envelope–inside was ten thousand dollars with a piece of folded paper
She pulled out the folded paper and unfolded it. As she saw the familiar handwriting, she instantly recognized it as written by Vera
It read, “Cee, happy birthday. In the blink of an eye, you’re already twenty–five, an adult now. I haven’t been there for you much these years. I’ve been an imesponsible mother, and you must have resented me. But Cee, I love you, I really love you. These are the things I could afford to give you, so I hope you like them. My baby, happy birthday.”
After reading it, Sierra’s eyes stung, and her tears started falling onto the paper, soaking a large patch.
So, Vera hadn’t forgotten her birthday.
Although the Shaw family was wealthy, all the money was in William’s hands. Vera didn’t have her own funds. Any money she spent came from William’s card, every penny under his watch.
Vera must have saved this ten thousand dollars and the money for the necklace for a long time just thinking about it made Sierra’s heart ache.
Her feelings for Vera were complex. Sometimes, she wished Vera could be heartless like William, not loving bet and abandoning her. That way, she could hate her without restraint.
Other times, she hoped Vera would resist william, break free from his control, and they could live independently, the two of them together.
However, she knew Vera couldn’t do that.
These complicated emotions tormented her. She lowered her head, and her hands trembled as she held the paper. Her eyes were filled with confusion, making it heartbreaking to see.
Outside the hospital room, Theo watched Sierra sitting on the bed softly crying, and his gaze darkened.
The doctor came in came in for rounds and was surprised to see Theo standing outside the room. “Mr. Gray, what are you still doing here?”
“Can a bed be added to this room?” Theo tumed around and asked the doctor.
Half an hour later, Sierra’s emotions had calmed a little. A nurse came in, and she quickly wiped her tears and lowered her head, not wanting anyone to see her red eyes from crying
“Ms. Shaw, the hospital rooms are full. A new patient needs to stay in your room for the night. A bed will be added here, but another room will become available in the morning. There will be a curtain separating the two beds. Would you mind?” the doctor asked.
Since the doctor’s] purpose was to treat and save people, Sierra certainly didn’t mind. “It’s fine. Let them stay. Please pull the curtain for me.”
After getting Sierra’s consent, the nurse sighed in relief and pulled the curtain around her bed.
Not long after, Sierra heard the sound of a bed being pushed in.
“You’ll be sleeping here tonight. The nurse’s voice was very respe respectful
Sierra guessed that the person suddenly spending the night here must be of a significant background.
She had just placed the envelope and necklace back into her bag when she suddenly smelled a faint, familiar woody fragrance, freezing her body instinctively.
What do you think?
